On my way into the appointment, I received a text message that my ANNUAL PHYSICAL would be move to a TELEHEALTH appointment. How a doctor can give you a physical over the telephone without checking your heart, blood pressure, weight etc. is beyond me. When I called for more information about my appointment, as I was not aware if I was to receive a call or a video link and it was to start at 8am - I received attitude over the phone about the doctor "having an hour to call me." I explained that I did NOT originally schedule a telehealth visit so I was confused to the process. I was told that I would get a call from an "Unknown Number" within the hour to administer my physical. (???) I then received a phone call an hour later that was the "pre-screen/intake" call asking about my insurance information. I asked them if I would be charged to my insurance as an annual physical because this is just going to be a telephone call, they said "Yes, as the doctor can just order your tests and you can come in on your own time." I was told again I'd have the doctor call me imminently. Fast forward TWO hours when I call THEM to figure out what was going on. As my appointment was now scheduled three hours in the past and I didn't have anyone call me. From there I was told there are "notes in for the Dr. to call," and they "may need to reschedule." The next appointment is in April. When I said it's not acceptable for me to have my annual physical 7 months late and that I have been more than accommodating as I was physically ON MY WAY TO THE OFFICE in the morning and now I can't get a phone call back. From there I was told that a nurse "could" call me this afternoon to approve the necessary tests associated for a physical. I am STILL awaiting a call. HOW IS THIS THE STATE OF HEALTHCARE IN CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN IN 2023? It's unprofessional, rude and unacceptable. No one at that office would dare accept this as their standard of health care and it's poor service all around. UPDATE HERE: It's a day after and I've received NO CALL from a doctor - they essentially canceled my appointment and never got back to me ... but DID make sure to send me a "visit summary." WHAT VISIT?! I reached out to my insurance re: this fraud. Unbelievable. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Both of my procedures, done a year apart, were skillfully treated. In both surgeries I was treated laparoscopically. He came highly recommended by my doctor who diagnosed the condition. He was kind, sincere, and took plenty of time to answer all my questions. Every person on his staff, both in his office and on the hospital teams were also outstanding.

Dr. Linn is also very caring. He communicates well and continued to invite my further questions and concerns after he thoroughly and clearly explained my procedure. Once the surgery was complete, he had great follow-up, checking in on my well-being even before I had my after-surgery consultation. Even at that last visit, he continued to show care. If I ever needed a surgeon again, I would jump at the chance to have Dr. Linn perform it. I would highly recommend him.

I scheduled my phone interview with Dr. Lansky who called the office manager during our call to check and see if that would work and I was told absolutely no problem, again. So after making the decision to spend $6,000 a year to join Dr. Lansky's practice, I was told instead, I'd have to join Dr. Croghan's practice and pay $10,000 as I was "too complicated" to "only pay" $6,000. Quite a racket!

She always responded to mychart messages right away, but I realized if I ever wanted to see a doctor in person again (outside of a physical that I had to book 6 months+ in advance) I needed to go the concierge route. I asked friends and did some research on Yelp for beloved concierge doctors and called around. I found that pricing varied (3-9k annually) and many of them had very long waitlists. It seemed that many were loving Thrive Internal Medicine, but I was bummed to hear that Dr. Petrugano and Dr. Berg weren't taking any new patients. They did tell me they had a new doctor (Dr. Kalember) that was taking new patients and I could set up a zoom to see if I'd like to move forward. I really enjoyed meeting Dr. Kalember via zoom, but couldn't find much information about her. I was a little wary about spending 4k annually on a concierge doctor when I had a dr thru Northwestern that I really liked (even if I couldn't get an appointment). And so I decided to hold off. And then my 8 year old blessed me with a horrible case of pink eye (top 5 worst things my children have given me) and I couldn't get into my doctor once again. I decided maybe it was worth giving Dr. Kalember a try and signed up for the service. Fortunately, since becoming a patient I've been relatively healthy (knock on wood) and haven't taken advantage of the concierge service too much. I did have a helpful in person intro meeting and a physical (which I booked just a few weeks beforehand). I was in and out within 30 minutes of both appointments and spent the entirety of those 30 minutes with the doctor. I've reached out to fill prescriptions and she's gotten back to me in record time. She has also been out of town once since I signed up and sent instructions for how to get in touch with her partners during that time. They use the spruce app to connect with them, which is very user friendly. I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger on concierge medicine and have been encouraging my husband to do the same. I'm sure a lot of the helpfulness depends on how great the doctor is, but so far I'm having a great experience with both Thrive and Dr. Kalember.
