What a lucky gal I am! I like my Ob/Gyn, Dr. Joseph Maurice, a whole bunch. (I yelped him too -…read morehe's good.) But like a lot of women in big cities, my practice consists of seven docs, so when it came time for my babe to arrive, I knew it would be luck of the draw. Enter Dr. Maura Brennan. We had never met. I just labored at home for a day, and labored hard for the whole night. I wanted to get to five minutes apart and get most of the work done in the comfort of my awesome bed. I also had planned on natural childbirth, seeing as the hubby and I are only planning on one great kid to spoil, and I consider myself to be a BSH. (That's Brick Shit House to you.) I read all the books, packed all the gear for my relaxing day of breathing and willing this baby into the world. I have one great contraction in the parking garage of Swedish Covenant, and when I walk in the door all labor stops. Like having stage fright when you have to pop a squat in a parking lot. Nothing. I'm no psycho; I didn't write my "birth plan" in blood. I didn't write it at all, in fact. So Dr. Brennan tells me I'm dilated to four and my BP is a little elevated. This makes sense to me since my pain level was about a seven for the last ten hours. She suggests we have this baby today, and a little Pitocin will make this happen. As soon as I hear the word, I know an epidural is probably in my future. Dr. B says I may not need it, we'll see how I do. I lasted two hours on the Pitocin and got the shot. What was I thinking?! I know women have babies in the field and keep working and all that bull shit, but I look around, and I am in a hospital. It's a no-brainer at this point. The important factors for my birth experience were maintained. My baby came into the world with no overhead crappy light, awesome. My "chill labor mix" was playing us soft, sweet tunes all day. And the only people there for most of the pushing were me, my hubby holding one leg and Dr. Brennan holding the other one. (There were also a few nurses in and out.) Dr. Brennan eased our little girl out with no rushing, no stress. She told me "you're super numb, so we can take our time." This means no tearing for mama, which in turn makes everyone happy! I had an amazing pregnancy, guided by the wonderful nurses and Dr. Maurice at Swedish Covenant, and a wonderful delivery experience thanks to Dr. Maura Brennan. It seems a shame to only do it once....

LOVE Dr Brennan. She's super chill and super knowledgeable. I was highly anxious about my pregnancy…read morebut after every appointment i felt so much calmer. She's very down to earth and realistic. Very no nonsense. Me and my wife missed her hardcore after baby was born. We recommend her to everyone! Office staff is cool I don't know what the other reviewers are complaining about.

I went to her based on a recommendation of a close friend. I was experiencing my first pregnancy. My first prenatal exam was very quick. No bloodwork was drawn. I only had an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. Not long after my first visit (maybe about a week and a half later), I experienced spotting and was very worried. I called the office to let them know that I need to be seen because of the spotting. I was clearly upset. They seemed u phased by it and treated me as if I was overreacting. They would not see me right away as I had hoped. Instead I was told to go to the ER if I filled a pad an hour. Three days later I was in the ER (HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE- see my review for Lutheran General Hospital ER). 2 days after that I had to have an emergency D&C because my condition became serious. When the heavy bleeding started (of course on a Saturday) I called the service and had the doctor on call call me back. She acted like I was an inconvenience. I understand that sometimes nothing can be done but my suggestion would be this - when a patient is terrified and wants to be seen, see them. Be a little more compassionate when there's a delicate situation going on. People are more than numbers on a chart.

I absolutely love Dr. Jodi Sklansky. She delivered my daughter in April 2013. I was 41 weeks…read morepregnant and in labor and I was told by Dr. Sklansky and her team of nurses that there was a possibility of a c-section. I was extremely terrified. Every contraction I was having my daughter's heart rate was significantly dropping. I told Dr. Sklansky that I was terrified of a c-section and asked if there was anything we could do to prevent that. Dr. Sklansky and her amazing team of nurses helped me to maneuver my position every hour and really paid attention to the needs of my daughter and me. 26 hours later I had a healthy baby girl 9 pounds 9 ounces and vaginally delivered. This was my first experience as my daughter was my first. I am so grateful to Dr. Sklansky and the amazing team of nurses at Lutheran General. The practice has several doctors and you never know which doctor you will get when it is "go time." Through all my doctor visits I liked all the doctors, but Dr. Sklansky was my favorite. She is so easy to talk to and has always made me feel super comfortable. I was so lucky that she was "on call" that day. I am expecting my little guy in June and hoping that I will luck out and get Dr. Sklansky again.
