This review is a follow-up update on our emergency water leak from four weeks ago. The project had passed from the demolition-mitigation phase through the restoration phase. We're now in the renovation phase. UIR's project coordinator, Kaulana, effectively communicated and advised us throughout these phases. Although the project could have ended with the restoration phase, which is the limit of our home insurance coverage, we decided to implement a few upgrades at our own expense to prevent future mishaps and add value to our unit. We wholeheartedly appreciate UIR's team of field professionals led by their foreman, David. His team of Joe, Tim, and Dimitri handled much of the disaster mitigation and restoration effort that removed and reconstructed our bathroom ceiling, walls, and flooring. As part of our reconstruction and renovation, UIR dispatched an experienced plumber from its partner company, 535 Plumbing LLC, Ata, who changed our PEX tubing from our shower to copper. Another professional, Vaughn, changed out the light and fan switches in both bathrooms, allowing us to control the light and exhaust fan separately. Within our third week of active rebuilding and renovation, UIR sent Liko and Matthew to deliver our selected porcelain tiles and set up the tilesetting equipment. UIR's master tile setter, Hiro, was assisted by Tim, and the two of them prepared the surfaces, measured, cut, and installed the tiles. When Hiro and Tim completed the tilework, the glazier (Josh from The Glass Guru) took exact measurements to install glass double shower doors to complete our shower/bath enclosures and project. Calling an extraction service means there's bad news that triggered the call. I relied heavily on my fellow Yelpers and I was thoroughly impressed with the 4-man crew led by Nari Saua (Project Manager) and Kaulana Gino (Project Estimator). I appreciated the fact that they did a quick assessment and knew that my flooded carpet had endured multiple exposures to flood water and recommended that the carpet be removed and trashed to avoid further exposure to the toxic remnants floating around in the flood waters. The crew helped me hoist some of the heavier furniture and storage containers without being asked and they were mindful that there were some fragile objects in some of those containers. The 4-man crew worked efficiently and communicated among themselves to get the carpet, padding and tack strips removed in the safest way while keeping dust and debris to a minimum. The crew also double checked to make sure all of the nails from the tack strips were removed from the concrete slab which was especially important for us with 3 grandkids running around the room. Clear open communication, fast and efficient work with an eye for details that might impact health and safety all provided by friendly masked workers. Late post - my mother had a plumbing emergency of November 2021. Supply line popped off on 2nd floor of her house, flooding the 2nd and 1st floors. I called Urgent Island Restoration at 3pm and they had guys on-site by 4:30. They worked into the evening to suction the water and rip out as much flooring as possible. We had major water coming inside our wall from a clogged air conditioning drain line. Urgent Iland did stop the leak. They also caused other damage, & disrespected our condo. My wife's photo was taken down off the wall, nowhere near the leak, and left on the floor. They broke the budding flowers off our orchid plant. Everything was left a mess. They wanted to tear out our old carpet, then dry & put it back. I dealt with Scott and Darla scheduling was on point. They both was attentive, we did have a hick up on the first day with a no show, but being in business myself I know employees don't necessarily work on Monday's LOL. As the job progressed they even came in on a Saturday to finish the work since we had a retest scheduled for Monday with expected clearance no later and Wednesday. They BOSS themselves came for the walk thru which they weren't satisfied so ended up redoing the work. I'm not writing this review to bash UIR, only that prospective clientele should be informed of what may lie in store for them should they contact UIR. I've been trying to get an accurate written estimate for three days now. Scott the field estimator, determined that the existing flooring could not be matched, and told us, after a phone call to his office, the job, full removal and replacement would be X amount of dollars. Two days later I get the written estimate for 1/4 the amount of what he said at the meeting. Apparently the lines of communication were blurred, as the written estimate was for the installation only. No mention of the removal of the existing floor..I've sent two text today, along with a phone call to Scott to get the full estimate.. 730pm on Friday.... NOTHING. I need the full estimate as this damage is being covered by the maintenance crew and they need the estimate. read more

If you're reading this review, you're probably not having a good day. But I have some great news for you... Urgent Island Restoration can and will make things about as good as they can get (under the circumstances). I live in a condo, and the unit above had a leak that was coming through our bathroom ceiling, dripping down behind the wall, and coming up through the flooring tiles. Not too fun, right? The above unit got the leak fixed, but we were still left with a lot of water and moisture in areas we couldn't access. But no need to worry, Urgent Island Restoration to the rescue! Scott came out the next day and long story short, UIR took care of me from start to finish, drying up the bathroom, removing the mold behind the walls, and setting me up with a contractor to repair the damage. They did far more to take care of my family and home than I would have expected. UIR is admittedly a small company. However, in this case, small does not mean less effective or less experienced... their company has been doing this for a long time. What it does mean is that you will get personal service from people that CARE about you and whatever situation you're in. When you're in this type of situation, you do NOT want to get "processed" by a bigger company that really only sees you as another job. Scott and Mari both spent way more time than they probably wanted answering all of my questions, and making sure that I understood everything that needed to be done. They gave me options and recommendations without me feeling pressured in any way. By the end of the process, I felt like I had been taken care of by friends, who really, really knew what they were doing. One important thing that I learned in this process is that UIR and any of its competitors price their services based on a standard rate list for different materials, equipment, and types of work. This is also how insurance companies decide how much to give you. So it's realistically impossible for companies to give a lower quote without reducing the scope of work. Another larger company had quoted me a price of $1000 less, but would have only cut out a small portion of the mold. When I asked the other company for a quote based on the scope of work that UIR was going to do, it was basically the exact same price. You definitely want to be thorough and get the job done right the first time, and that's exactly what UIR did. Speaking of which, Mari did the high majority of the communication with our insurance company. If you've ever tried to get insurance money, you know how difficult it can be to get them to pay out. I can't tell you how valuable it was that UIR (who knows how to communicate with insurances) was the one to take care of this. I'm not sure what Mari did, but she got my out of pocket costs from about an original $2000 quote to literally nothing. I also got the impression that she went out of her way to do this. Your results may vary, but take this as a sign of what kind of company UIR is, and how much they care about you. One possible disincentive for customers is that UIR does not do their own contracting for repairs or installations, simply because it's not what they focus on. However, I was given a referral to an excellent contractor that they work with, and UIR relayed all of the pertinent information to them. This would not deter me from working with UIR again, and the value and personal service they have more than makes up for it. In conclusion, I had to call Urgent Island Restoration in a tough situation, and I don't think it's possible for anyone to have given better service and done a better job. At the same cost of any other company, there's no reason not to choose UIR, as they are the ones who will best take care of you. Stop looking at reviews right here, and call them now... your day will be much better for it. read more

Early one morning, I woke up to a flooded apartment because the water heater in a unit two floors above me failed. As expected from any water abatement company, the guys from Urgent Island Restoration came right away, assessed the problem, took care of the water, and started the drying process. The crew that came was very hard working, courteous, and professional. However, as with everything else in life, we all know that things don't always go as planned. One of their new employees in training made an honest mistake that resulted in a problem. This company's response to this problem is what makes them shine above the rest. If you are unlucky, and need professional restoration of your property, then Urgent Island Restoration is the business to call. I contacted Urgent Island when I needed sewage in a yard to be cleaned up. I texted Darla at Urgent Island Restoration, and quickly got a reply. Next, Scott Shizuru contacted me promptly, and went to the spill area to give me an estimate. I appreciated that. Trust me, when you have a sewage leak, you don't want it sitting around. Scott was able to schedule the clean-up work quickly. Scott did all the coordination with the affected party which was a big help since I was contacting people to get the leak repaired and did not have to deal with clean-up work coordination too. Scott coordinated timing of the work with the affected home owner, and made all the arrangements with the home owner since they had to be home from work to contain a large dog on the property. Scott took base line readings of the area, and areas outside of the spill to get a background base line before the clean-up. Only trained pros know to do that. More importantly, the affected area ended up cleaner than the area outside of the spill area. The spill was in the yard, but the final bacterial clearance readings were similar to readings found inside of a typical home. Scott spoke to the affected home owner, and showed him the clean-up report results. The area where the leak happened was now was safer than the rest of his property. The home owner was happy with the work UIR performed, and thanked me for hiring such a professional company. Darla sent me the final report findings for my records, and was kind enough to work with me to space out my payments over 2 billing periods since I was near my credit card limit. Overall 10 star service for a situation that I hope no one has to go through. I noticed a bunch of mold growing under my kitchen sink and since I don't open that cabinet too often it was pretty bad. Looks like it's been spreading for a while. I went to Yelp to find someone who could treat it and Urgent Island Restoration had good reviews. However when Scott came to inspect it, he just looked at it and said that he couldn't determine if it's mold or dirt or debris. He said there was water damage to the wood but the baseboards are dry. Said he couldn't really do anything to help me. What a waste of my time. I then called Green Home Solutions of Hawaii and they sent a guy to inspect. I forget his name but he was way more thorough than Scott. He actually got down on his hands and knees to look into my cabinet. He had a moisture meter and tested the wood. He let me know that the moisture reading was really high, even in the baseboards where Scott had said was dry. He informed me that it was mold due to moisture coming from somewhere and it was so bad that I would have to replace my cabinets. He recommended that I call my insurance to see if they would cover it since it is a pretty big project. So that's where I'm at now. Scott showed up and assessed the problem. He advised me the problem was not as severe as I first thought. He is very knowledgeable about mold types, causes and how to take care of the problem. We called UIR for a second opinion. Right from the start, Darla, was extremely helpful in providing information. She is a very pleasant and sweet person. Scott Shizuru at Urgent Island Restoration is unprofessional and dishonest. I had water damage to my bathroom on Sept 18, 2020. UIR was called by the staff at Windward Passage where I live since I was on the mainland. The water damage was cleaned up. I had a friend checking on my condo and she advised me the repair work had not been done the week that I was coming home. When I spoke with Scott he promised me the the repair work would be completed the week beginning of Oct 19. I kept calling and he said the work would start. The repairs were done on Oct 23 the day before I came home. The repair work was not completely done and the repairs were unacceptable. Scott admitted he never came to the condo to supervisor or check after the work was completed. The drywall, sink, and back splash were not completed. The back splash fell over when I touch it, the sink was not centered, the drywall was damaged and not painted correctly. There was damage in the cabinet from the water leak that was not replaced. Damaged tiles on the base board were not replaced and there was damage to the faucet. Electrical items were not connected and hanging off the wall. I could not believe the poor quality of the work. After my request Scott told me he would hire a licensed contractor he knew who could repair my bathroom. Jeff Ball at J & D Builders came to evaluate the repairs that need to be done on Nov 3 per Scott's request. Jeff needed to send Scott at UIR a contract to sign since Scott said UIR would pay for the repairs. After numerous text, emails, and conversations for over a month between Scott and Jeff, I receive a text on Dec 4th, 2020 from Jeff stating J & D Builders is unable to repair my bathroom. The water damage happened on Sept 18, 2020 and due to Scott's poor management skills my bathroom has not been repaired. Scott at UIR is dishonest and unprofessional. read more

We called Urgent Island Restoration when we noticed water coming from under our washing machine and they sent someone to our house within an hour. I don't give 5 stars lightly, i.e., the company/individual must earn it. And earn it Scott of Urgent Island Restoration did. He came to my place twice & did not charge me both times. The 1st time he told me why he didn't think it was mold on the bathroom cabinet baseboard (for reasons I have since forgotten, & the baseboard was changed recently anyway). The 2nd time was for mold on another bathroom's ceiling. Because I had broken my wrist & was still recuperating, Scott didn't want me hurting myself by trying to climb up precariously to wipe the mold off. So he returned the next day with the disinfectant solution & climbed up to spray & wipe away the mold. Again, all of this was for free! He refused to take money for his time, expertise, energy, or even for his bottle of disinfectant! A local business owner with a heart of gold! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND calling Urgent Island Restoration if you suspect mold or need water extraction.
