This company is abusive. I was hired and fired before pandemic. Totally set up to fail, it was beyond psychological manipulation. First of all, there is zero training whatsoever. They not only don't train you but they are bothered with your questions. When you point out things like "my e-mail wasn't provided so how can I communicate with clients?" you're met with a blank expression and a strange, cold, arrogance. You are expected to work seven days a week with no chance for personal care whatsoever. You are to stand in a store room for seven days from 10 am until 7 pm. I was given no help and set up to fail and when I was suddenly fired out of nowhere in the middle of the day and asked where my money was, they were surprised I would ask? The next day I went to pick up my check and the co-owner or owner of the business who hired me actually screamed in my face. He is a lot taller than me and I felt extremely threatened. I am a forty year old man (at the time I was 35) and I was reduced to some kind of strange humiliation because I had questions that were unanswered. At the time I was in between places and didn't have an address, the owner screamed at me "WHY COULDN'T WE HAVE MAILED IT TO YOU??!?!!" this is like two inches from my face. I have severe anxiety and I was rattled and my PTSD reached code level red. This man then throws the check at me after having me wait in this room for fifteen minutes after screaming at me (I am having a full on panic attack at this point) and then he nonchalantly walks back in and mutters "be careful who you call unethical," referencing how I told the other owner who fired me directly "this is unethical" as it was. If I could leave a review in the negatives, I would. Notice how they never respond to any of these reviews because that's what their culture is. read more

I bought my storage bed for my Manhattan apartment a couple of months ago, from the Urbangreen furniture store in Brooklyn, where they make all the furniture. It was actually an interesting experience seeing where they're being made and what the process looks like! I found them on apartment therapy's "best storage beds". It looks better than the photos online! I love the unique design and I can definitely use all that storage since everything in Manhattan is tiny! They actually even made the drawers under the bed a bit bigger since I asked them too Very friendly and knowledgeable customer service, too. They also custom made a file cabinet for me. I am so glad I got my first high quality, "grown up" furniture there. They have a nice modern, mature feeling to them, which I love! What surprised me is that the eco finish they use does not smell AT ALL compare to other furniture I had in the past! I used to live next door to their showroom in NY and coveted the storage bed in the window. When I moved to a San Francisco studio apartment, I ordered it. When it arrived, the piece was chipped, and the main wooden piece, the headboard, had cracks in it. I documented it, sent pictures to everyone I had contact with at the company. They kept telling me the pictures wouldn't download. I sent them in various formats and then they went silent and refused to respond. If I'd wanted some cheap storage bed, I had lots of options to choose from. I wanted something solid, well made, that would last a long time and was made in the United States. Well, it was made in the United States, I guess. But this is not a cheaply priced bed. It was pretty expensive, and to receive a cracked, broken item, and get no response from the customer support, is infuriating. Stay away from this company. read more

Great experience with Urbangreen. Wanted a record cabinet made out of solid wood made by a local, environmentally conscious company. I asked for the top to be modified so my turntable could fit entirely without any spillover. The modification did not increase the price by much, and UG sent me a detailed diagram for approval before proceeding. Communication was excellent. Buying furniture when you have chemical sensitivities is a nightmare. Particleboard offgases formaldehyde, wood stains reek and cause breathing problems, and if you find furniture that doesn't have these issues, it might not be your style. I ordered a bedroom set from Urban Green (bed, nightstand, wardrobe), and I could not be happier. The furniture is stylish, modern, well-constructed, and most importantly, does not smell. Even during a hot July/August. The stains and materials they use work, and the finish I ordered, Slate, is so pretty. The customer service is excellent--they spent a long time sitting down with me to help me plan the room and figure out what I needed and what I didn't. I already ordered more stuff (a small dresser and file cabinet) and might treat myself to an end table as well. They make all the furniture on-site and so can build you a custom-sized piece. This company has hijacked the "green" industry with claims they can not substantiate. I invested tens of thousands of dollars based on their no formaldehyde platform, but what they fail to tell you is the substitute for formaldehyde (a product they know nothing about) may be equally or more harmful. I found UG after hearing the founding partner brag about finishing work an hour before his launch party that included Marty Markowitz and no one in the room smelled any chemicals. When I remind him of this he comes up with one of many excusing including, "I said the paint wouldn't smell, but never promised the wood wouldn't smell" After months of UG blaming the smells on the other few items I have in my home, I hired an environmental hygienist- two in fact- and independently tested the materials. Both hygienist measured air particles as well as VOC. Urban Green items were among the ONLY items in my home off gassing. I have no other furniture save a loner couch from UG. When presented with 700 ppb off gassing from just one item alone the principle quoted "green protocols" and offered no apology or cure for the offensive odor outside of a solution my husband came up with which was flawed in part. They continued to attribute the off gassing to 3rd party items. In a desperate attempt to shift the blame, one of the partners said it was my flat screen tv's that were causing my eyes to burn and lungs to hurt. He later denied this a pattern I've become accustomed with dealing. In full disclosure, I purchased a ton of items at one time from Urban Green. In the initial winter months the smells were just noticeable. As soon as the weather reached higher temperatures the smells became intolerable. Even burly contractors are able to detect the odors upon entering my home. I called Columbia Forest, where they source their material, and the company said after 9 months the items should no longer have a smell. I believe the particular lot of materials used to create my items was mislabeled at best- a problem a reputable closet installation company encountered. When I initially had my closets done, my eyes were burning and i could barely breath in the hallways. I called the company, they came out the next day and guess what...indeed the wood they used was not the NAUF I requested. I recall the partner of UG retorted something like, "sure it was a mistake". The closet company did the right thing, UG continues to be unaccountable as well as uniformed of the make up of the products they use. They are making a business decision and jumping on the "Green" bandwagon. What you are getting is pressed particle board with glue- ikea and target like. They claim the glue is non toxic, but rely only on the information contained on the supplier's website. They have done no independent testing themselves. They do not understand this industry. The company had the best of intentions and I considered them family until, Summer months hit and my apartment become unlivable. The only room that does not smell is my master bedroom which contains nothing from Urban Green. The partner now says running my AC is compulsory. It is his recent explanation for the horrific odors my family continues to encounter. They haven't done their homework and are careless. They stored organic wool (not completely enclosed) in a factory that has dust particles and other allergens- a term they throw around for marketing purposes. After repeated request to only order a natural latex that was 100 %pure, the partner ignored my research and placed an order for 80%percent rubber and 20% unknown. His answer to my disapproval was, "propitiatory information". You guessed it- he denies I ever had any objections. After thousands of dollars were spent on a "nontoxic" bed for my child they sealed the edges with a commercial adhesive! The smell lingered for days, but alas not as long as the fumes that continue to emanate from the "UV coated" wood they frequently use including the "allergen free" bed for my son. When asked what the UV coating is made of, I was met with a blank stare and another "NO voc claim". As if! Most items arrived damaged including a sliding door that didn't fit bc, " we didn't measure the elevator". There are finger prints from installers with dirty hands all over the furniture, but who cares if your eyes burn from the toxic fumes eminating from your kids bunk bed- also riddled with cracks. These guys do not know healthy materials. They continue to blur the lines between environmentally sustainable and chemically nontoxic. I personally taught one of the founding partners that ALL WOOD has formaldehyde after I could no longer stand to hear him say everything is formaldehyde free. The very next day, he interrupted me by saying, "you know all wood has formaldehyde" . 24 hours later and he's the expert. This is the case study we are dealing with- superficial knowledge of a rather complicated industry. read more

I had a very similar experience to Irene B. There were nicks and bumps (and some green paint!?) on the large $3500 bed we ordered, and the "white glove" delivery men damaged our floor while assembling the bed. The company was initially responsive but then became strangely evasive about paying for the damage and after a few months of dodging calls started to outright deny any responsibility. I think it is just a combination of a sketchy sub-contracted delivery service and absent-minded customer service that hopes problems will just go away. I found UrbanGreen online, and was excited to find a custom furniture builder to fill my need of an armoire for a small San Francisco apartment. The design process was smooth and quick. Everything after, however, was terrible. I was originally quoted on the phone a 4-5 week delivery time. After 5 weeks, the item was still not finished. I'll spare the details, but it took another two weeks of back and forth to even have the item ready to ship. As for shipping, buyer beware, they do not offer in-home delivery as a standard and while documented in the paperwork, failed to verbally explain to me what that meant. As a result, the shipping company would not deliver to my home, even the curb, because I live on a hill (it is San Francisco!). I had to wait another week for the white glove delivery to be done. Once I got the item, it arrived damaged - chipped wood, drawer was not flush, door was not flush with the rest of the unit. UrbanGreen denied any responsibility but finally agreed to arrange a free in-home repair. The repair man did as best of a job as he could - but his final conclusion was that the door could never be flush with the unit, because the door itself was built crooked. After relaying this to UrbanGreen over a week ago, I still have not heard back. Ultimately, the piece is nice, but not worth the price especially given the poor customer service. I would never recommend using this vendor to anyone. read more

We visited the showroom and mill shop in Brooklyn and were impressed by staff and workmanship put into all they made. Quality hardware and materials were evident, we ordered a storage bed that day, the staff was flexible and pushed up the manufacturing and delivery date to accommodate our timetable. The delivery crew was professional, on time and competent in moving in and assembling our new bed. Although quite heavy, we are very happy with the quality and finish of our bed. About three months ago, I purchased some furniture from urbangreen and I couldn't have been happier with the consultation, purchase, and delivery. I had just moved into a new space with 13- foot ceilings and needed some tall modular shelves and a media console. It was important for me to support a local green business since I'm trying to reduce my carbon footprint. I liked that urbangreen uses FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) wood with low-VOC and toxin-free stains and paints. The company's showroom in Brooklyn is pretty amazing and you can watch the production process right there at their manufacturing facility. There was hardly any smell or dust. It's something that matters to me since I try to create a healthy home. As soon, as I placed my order I was given a delivery date that was kept and some of the shelves were assembled right away in my apartment. I had a few customized requests, such as where I wanted the openings for the TV cables in my console, and that I wanted the pin holes inside my shelves stained. I would give them a negative score if I could. They sold me a mattress that was a floor model without disclosing that fact. It just "was on sale!" Moreover, they didn't make the apparently required recommendation for a foundation, so the mattress has collapsed. They have horrible customer service and have no accountability for these issues. The salesperson left--and it was his fault. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE. They are not registered with the BBB and I will be reaching out to the city to let MadeinNYC know these issues. read more

I purchased a parsons table from Urbangreen in 2013 (see my review below), and was less than impressed. However, when I decided to buy a storage bed I found myself looking at their site again after looking at all the usual sources. I decided to take a drive out to their factory in Brooklyn and take a look at the furniture being manufactured first hand. I was very pleased and impressed with what I saw - hand build, simple lines, 'green' finishes - really solid stuff. Now to be clear, this is not solid wood furniture, this is plywood, so the finish is technically a veneer. It looks just as good as solid wood, but the cost is SIGNIFICANTLY lower. After the visit I was sold, so I decided to order a queen-sized platform bed with storage, a nite stand, and a matching bookcase; total cost a bit over $4,000. (Solid oak would have been close to $10,000). About five weeks later, it was delivered - absolutely beautiful. The finish is really well done, the wood grain 'pops' nicely, and the honey finish is warm with deep brown and orange highlights...it's really lovely. I was so pleased I asked Urbangreen to make me a new table top for a dining table - done; and also lovely. Also note, that they addressed the complaint I had with the table I originally purchased in 2013 when they delivered the dining table top. I see Urbangreen as a superior alternative to buying furniture from a traditional furniture store - Macy's Raymore and Flanagan, etc. The quality is far superior, and it's much better made. At some future point I am going to add built-in bookshelves and cabinets in my living area. I will definitely call Urbangreen again. read more

Don't EVER consider buying from this company! We ordered a $ 3000 bunk bed to be delivered by white glove delivery service (another $500) and it ended with a very expensive disaster. You are much better off buying at IKEA - there at least you know what you get and customer service is wonderful. The delivery guys managed to essentially ruin these fancy bunk beds by drilling additional holes in the head boards and ladder. Now, screw heads are showing on the other side of the parts, splitting the maple wood in some places and posing as hazards to our children. We complained to the company more than once and asked them to replace those parts - no success. In the end, we even had Citibank go after them for not resolving this issue: to no avail. They claimed it was all our fault (seriously!). This company, while having visually pleasing furniture that is supposedly green, has the lousiest and most unprofessional customer service I have ever seen. It was clearly their mistake and they were unwilling to acknowledge and fix it. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY from them! read more

The stuff is solid snd well made. However, at such high prices, they should be more careful and respectful of customers money and time. Shipping took a long time. Email communication was brusque. Delivery people were pretty rude. But worst of all They shipped the wrong color shelf to me!! It took so long to get it and was such a pain to unpack that it's too much trouble to return. I also loved the fact that the bed did not have any odor--industrial, chemical, or otherwise. I purchased a set of shelves months ago and only recently noticed a cosmetic issue that I was hoping could be fixed. Bought a Parsons table about a week ago, and while it looks great, it is NOT very stable. This is not solid wood, rather veneer, as such it's not the kind of table you can roll out dough on, or stand ontop of to change a lightbulb. So looks great, but not the kind of solid wood construction I grew up with. read more
