The event was really well attended and I loved some of the specialty Gins they had. Some of the wines were OK, some of them were really good. Great event, great tastings, lots of learning as the hosts were very good about explaining about the different products they were pouring. Excellent !

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I didn't have the best time at Providence Wine Bar…read more This might sound a little haughty, but hear me out: I can drink wine at home. I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

I had a few items already in mind so it didn't take long for them to locate them for me. When asked about some very specific New York style Gin, they immediately told me that that was something they didn't carry but would be willing to source if I were to call ahead before visiting again. I really appreciated that offer and may take them up on that next time since Providence is still a much closer drive than upstate New York. I guess what really fascinated me about this place more than the wines stocked on the shelves was the fact that this used to be a purveyor/architect's office/storage where they stored their blueprints. As such, the shelves where all these simple fine wines rest on were once holding blueprints for buildings nearby. It made the whole store look extremely unique and similar to a library that had books up to the ceiling. I'll definitely be back to visit when in the area again. NOTE: They also carry a few nice NA beers and mocktails as well as drinks with THC.

Reyes Liquors has an appropriate selection of booze given the neighborhood…read more By appropriate, and suspending judgment (to each their own), here's a sample list of the very wide variety of selection and quality you can find here: Foolproof, Colt 45 malt liquor, Shipyard, Arbor Mist, Peak Organic, Sutter Home White Zinfandel, Moët & Chandon Rose Imperial, Casillero del Diablo, Jäger (ok fine. I judge the Jäger). I personally think you'll get a really bad hangover from a lot of the options here (esp. the wine), but the craft beer selection is surprisingly good and I love the mix-a-six. What I don't like about this place is that sometimes the pricing seems out of whack with alternatives, the price labeling can be better (there's been times I'd have to wait in line to get the register to scan an item to understand cost), and the parking situation can be a major cluster with patrons haphazardly blocking the road and private lot (common sense people, TRIPLE parking on the street and sidewalk and/or blocking the lot entrance in your car is rude!). I like Reyes Liquors just fine, I just wouldn't feel compelled to make a special visit if I wasn't already in the neighborhood.

I was not in a rush so I informed Curtis that I can wait. 8 days later, Curtis texted me that the Le Berceau Blanquette de Limoux Brut was in. I walked in and I informed the cashier that I was here to pickup an online order. Curtis was also behind the counter and he jumped in and asked are you Stephanie? I said "Yes! That's me."
