The Pub at EAV - Heckfire Steak Smash Burger

The restaurant was recently rebranded and I was curious to see what was new. I stopped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised from the moment I walked in. Seating was open at the time and Noah, who was both the bartender and our server, greeted us with water right away. I have never been impressed by a casual restaurant's menu design before, but The Pub at EAV truly stands out. It is well thought out and visually appealing. I had been eyeing the tom yum wings for a while and ordered them as an appetizer. They were flavorful and served hot. The restaurant also provides complimentary house made pickles, and they were genuinely good. For my drink, I tried the Sneaky Link cocktail. Noah added muddled strawberries because it was a fresh batch and needed a little balance. I would honestly recommend keeping the strawberries as part of the drink because it turned out delicious. For entrées, we ordered the Heck Fire Burger and chose to have the bread served shareable style. They bake their bread in house and it is so good that they could easily offer a bread service option on its own. We also tried the lamb shank which was tender and very well prepared. The only disappointment of the entire evening was the bread pudding. It was recommended with a lot of enthusiasm which made me excited to try it. I ordered it to go and reheated it at home. Unfortunately, it tasted freezer burnt and slightly cross contaminated, almost as if it had absorbed the flavor of another item nearby. I am not a picky eater, but I could only take a couple of bites. Overall, The Pub at EAV is a great addition to the neighborhood. The service was excellent, the food was exciting and creative, and I will definitely return to try more dishes.

The pub provided a bingo sheet for all of us to complete and I was able to enjoy some fish and chips while filling it in! The food was lovely and much above your average pub feast. The fish and chips were available in sharing or solo size. I went for the sharing to split with my guest and it was the perfect amount of food for both of us (with some appetizers before hand). We also went for the pickles and edamame. The pickles had a unique tang to them that any beer lover would love. The edamame was covered in a delicious chili garlic oil and had some crunch to each bite with the cilantro and dried spices on top. I would definitely come back here for the food alone. They do theme nights other than survivor so make sure to checkout their Instagram page to see if one of their watch party events is up your alley! Thanks to Sherry and the staff at EAV for a new fav Atl spot!

But what you do get is good food and service. Everyone seemed to enjoy working there, the staff was super nice as was what I assume to be the owner/manager who chatted with us for a bit. Though in an older building, we used to frequent this specific spot back in the day when it was a pizza shop, it's super clean, the restaurant and restroom(s). (I assume the men's is as well kept as the women's.) we were there mid Thursday afternoon and they had quite a few customers! We ordered a few rounds of raw oysters, teriyaki chicken tenders with fries, peel-n-eat shrimp, and buffalo shrimp, so quite a variety and everything tasted great! It's set up like a bar scene, though they only serve beer and wine which I can only assume has to do with the ginormous expense for a full bar liquor license and stock price threshold. The menu leans more into bar food plus some delicious extras such as raw oysters. They also have a board up displaying live music dates and such. I love these types of places, small businesses, especially ones that show so much enthusiasm will always hold a special place in my heart over corporate chains any day in spite of the cost of entry. If I had one recommendation, it would be to update the ketchup bottles. The labels either need to go or just replace the bottles altogether. Otherwise, everything was great!

We had eaten here before once or twice probably 5 years ago, but we wanted to check it out again. Parking is on-street nearby. There seemed to be plenty of spaces around the courthouse across the street. They normally have parking around back, but the lot is currently being used for construction staging. We were greeted as we entered and advised that we could sit anywhere. They were about 3/4 full, but we saw a table up front so we took that. Our server advised us that this would be where the live band would be setting up about 45 minutes to an hour later, and she asked if we'd mind being moved it our dinner overlapped with the band. We said no. There seemed to be a fair percentage of 'regulars' here, maybe for the music. They space is a standard bar arrangement. The bar takes up much of the right side, with tables down the center and booths along the left wall. The decor seemed to be seasonal, and had changed from Valentine's Day to Mardi Gras when we were there. They got our drink orders. My wife got a Po Boy (catfish). I opted for a burger. They offered fried okra as a side, which I recalled from the last time we ate here. I was glad that had not changed. The food was pretty good. The wine pour seemed small, though. We managed to finish before we got evicted from the table. Prices seemed average. If you are in the area, this place is worth stopping in.

Surprisingly great space. Food was typical bar food, but the service was very slow. I would go back.read more
