We were trying to find some food to buy to take on the plane with us. A lot of options were already pre-made and unfortunately with my food sensitivities it's hard to take pre-made options. So we decided perhaps Urban Crave would be a good option. We were standing at the entrance for a while before finally getting acknowledged and after we said can we take it to-go, they said no they don't do to-go orders. It was unfortunately a wasted amount of time for us. It would be nice to show somewhere that they only do dine in service or perhaps someone at the desk in front to deal with folks who are waiting. I stopped here while waiting for my flight and wasn't very happy with the experience. I was seated quickly which was nice. I ordered the chicken tenders with bbq and honey mustard sauce. I also got a water which the cup had lots of chips around the rim where pieces of the cup were actually rubbing off into the drink. I asked for another one and my server did get me a new one which was better but still chipped. She mentioned that when they put the cup into the ice it must chip the rim. The honey mustard sauce is 99% mustard which I don't prefer but that's just a personal preference. The BBQ sauce was bland but still tasted good and I used most of that up to help the chicken which was also bland. The chicken had good texture and was crispy. The fries were kind of soggy and kind of warm. I was seated on the side where you face a wall with some badly traced lines from some leftover construction. I came in to place a to go order. The hostess wasn't attentive. Instead of finishing taking my order, she kept on helping other customers that came in later than me. Once my order was taken with the help of another worker from the bar, I took a seat the high table at the very back. When my order arrived, I opened it to take a bite. The hostess came to let me know that I can't eat here because it was a to-go order. I had tipped 15% as if I was getting service. I had wanted to order to-go so that I could make my flight if service was taking awhile or if I had any leftover. This is very reasonable at airports. While waiting for our flight back to the United States from Montreal, Diane and I ate dinner here, and were pleased with the food and speed of service. She enjoyed Smoked Meat Poutine with Cheese Curds, and I devoured a very tasty Smoked Meat Sandwich that was much like a Corned Beef Sandwich on Rye, with lean and moist meat. The sandwich came with a filled basket of golden and crisp French Fries. In my silent rating of Corned Beef Sandwiches, the deli-style sandwich served here came just ahead of Junior's in NYC, and slightly behind Reuben's in downtown Montreal. But all of them were worthy contenders as really good eats on the Corned Beef and Reuben Sandwich front. Being seated in wood and metal chairs placed behind wood tables was spartan but functional. The food was hot, the fries were crispy, the meat tasted like corned beef, and the gravy was the right level of saltiness. I haven't had a poutine in years and Urban Crave satisfied my once-in-a-decade craving. The fries resisted getting soggy for the entirety of my meal. Friendly service. English is not her first language, so things got lost in translation, but she still recommended me this delicious beer (she thought it was an IPA. It's not). She checked on me as needed and took note of my flight departure time to ensure I had cushion to enjoy my meal. Miserable service, miserable restaurant, go elsewhere in the terminal. In addition to the worst ambiance of any of the restaurants, the wait staff was incredibly rude. Immediately upon sitting down in the empty restaurant, the waitress began to cause a scene, and began yelling at me for simply looking at my partner and looking around the restaurant when told that they may have to condense us to a single table if a big flight came in and they became full. Mind you, there was about 5 people there and about 100 seats open at the time. The quesadilla was big and rich with their local cheese. This enough will hit your hunger spot. I added side of chips to try it since it was dark and crispy. It had a different taste than American cups. The chips were thick and fried until they were dark brown. The chips I felt can go with guacamole, sour cream or cheese alone. I had a courteous and friendly waiter. Even though the wait to order and paying the bill was long, the customer service was enough to forget. I was on a layover in YUL with no lounge access. So I had to bite the bullet and pmiay to patronize an airport 'restaurant'. I had no qualms about paying airport prices per se (well I DO, but it's not gotten me anywhere so far...), but I was still coming away from this a little disappointed. This place was pretty packed - a little more as well as a little less compared to other places in the terminal. Having waited some time to be seated, I decided to be a bar fly instead. I was going to go for a smoked meat sandwich without thinking too much about it, but OUCH - $20 for a sandwich (even if it's at an airport, and it's CAD, which is worth about 78 cents at the time of writing). So I went for the smoked meat poutine instead ($15), since I don't remember the last time I had poutine, washing it down with an IPA of unnamed origin. As it turned out, the smoked meats was not what you might call plentiful (1.5 oz. maybe) sitting on top of the fries, gravy and curds. It tasted quite good, but the cheese was not all melted!!!! I'm sorry, but that's not really acceptable for me. The kitchen guy was not all that busy - I would have appreciated ensuring that the cheese IS melted by mic-ing it for 30 seconds. That's what happens when you're held hostage at airports. I doubt, though, that I'd have the Stockholm syndrome and learn to love airport food. read more

One of the worst dining experiences I have had at an airport. Despite loving my time in Montreal, Urban Crave left me extremely disappointed. My friend and I were seated by an extremely anxious and rude waitress. Prior to taking our order, she said "Ok, I am just going to be putting this on one check. Got that? Only one check". This did not bother us because I know they are often trying to make sure they can get people out in a timely manner at airports and minimizing the number of checks would help. After taking our order, she came back and act if our bill would be on two checks or just one. We stated just one. She read back our order incorrectly and after correcting it, I noticed she seemed to be struggling quite a bit- she would take food to the wrong table, was not clear about how to pay for the bill (you have to pay near the hostess stand but only your waiter/waitress can cash you out). People were often standing around waiting for her to come cash them out and she simply did not pay attention. I witnessed this individual yelling at someone because they did not leave her a tip. While tipping is commonplace in the US and Canada, it is not typical in other areas in the world, so this just seemed unnecessarily disrespectful. On top of that, the food was not good at all. I love this place when I need a quick last minute meal before hopping on a plane. Last time I was here we got chicken sliders for my kids and I got the maple pork belly salad. My Order- I ordered the Montreal style Hot Dog which was fun-it had mustard, coleslaw, and onions topped on a steamed beef frank with a soft, yet sturdy bun! I also ordered Labatts Blue-Canadian Beer. The Bloody Caesar- Many people at the bar were ordering Bloody Mary Caesar's which are a Canadian Signature Adult Beverage. They were nicely garnished with lemons, limes and several thick stalks of celery. The Staff- The staff was exceptionally friendly, fast, and professional. The waitress even offered to mail my postcards as there was not a post office box within the airport security area where the gates were located. FYI-they have GOOSE ISLAND ON TAP!! I sat down for a mimosa while I was waiting for my flight and one minute after the mimosa arrived, the guy came to my table and asked what I wanted, and I said: I just ordered, I'm not hungry, give me a few minutes, I might grab a bit. While at the Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport flying to Las Vegas, the Urban crave caught my attention as they advertised serving "authentic Montreal street cuisine". Curious I was drawn to the large amount of people dining here at 6:00 am. What I soon discovered this place is anything but street food . I ordered the "voted customer's choice" Montreal Eggs Benedict priced at 15$ . This meal includes 2 poached eggs on an English muffin with a Hollandaise sauce and a side of potatoes. I ordered a fruit salad instead of the potatoes for a healthier option. Service was fast- food on the other hand was very disappointing- both presentation wise and to the palate. Firstly the Hollandaise sauce was way too runny and I could also taste the vinegar from the poached eggs which curded the Hollandaise sauce !!! And to make matters worse the fruits were marinated in a weird herbal sugared syrup. I was so turned off by my meal - I couldn't finish my meal before my flight. However, I would like to commend my waitress. When I brought this matter to her attention, she volunteered to give me a 10 % discount (her employee discount) which was very sweet. When she approached the chef, he didn't seem to care.. and said that's usually how eggs Benedict are made. I have brunch all over the city- this place wins the award for vinegared eggs! Urban crave is the typical overpriced airport food you never hope to experience but given how things completely tend to fall apart getting to your flight with a longer than desired security check-in and the VERY limited international resto options at YUL.... you'll suddenly find yourself here at 7 AM with a hole in your stomach you need to plug before getting on the plane. I went with the very safe breakfast option of "eggs, bacon, potatoes & toast". The coffee sucked, definitely been on the heater too long and I could taste the burnt. The rest of the breakfast was nothing to write home about. Bacon was well prepped and the seasoning on the potatoes were good. Overall standard fare. Service seems to forget they're... well... at an airport?? And thus, a sense of urgency is required. Definitely under-serviced even with half the seats being empty. Look, I don't need to flag you down to pay. Keep your eyes on your patrons, they ALL have flights to catch. We don't need to remind you of that.
