Let me explain: * The size of the gym is spacious, not cramped, and always clean and organized. Total win. * There's a mindful flow to class structure with a group warm-up and WOD intro that is guided - it's never a free-for-all. And the class waits to break their sh*t down until everyone is finished WODing. * The coaches are the best, most skilled IMO. They care about form and foundational movements and technique. They keep class sizes small so you get the attention you need, whether you want to admit it or not, to get better and, more importantly, move safely. * They have four dedicated Oly platforms, where is where I now spend the majority of my time. I love that. I got my own space to work on my Oly lifts or pull out a rack to back/front squat, without having to fight for space, barbells, or plates. * They have ample Open Shop time that I utilize for shizzle. No other gym in/around town is going to let you treat their shop like your own personal gym, but Roots does with near-daily Open Shop times that let you come in and do your own thing, catch up on a WOD you might've missed, or work on technique and gymnastics. * There's always a coach onsite. If you need a spot, some advice, or general pep talk, you don't have to look far to get the support you need as an athlete. I love that. Sometimes, you may even get advice from a coach without asking - that's how much they care. Okay, here comes the WARNING: If you join Roots - or even try it for a few days and classes, be ready to FEEL SPOILED. To feel like no other gym will ever meet your expectations, because that's exactly what will happen. Roots is the best, worth every cent, and very accomodating for all athletes of all ages (they have a kids program and a seniors program), as well as community-minded and welcoming. To be honest, when I moved to Boulder without knowing ANYONE, I got through that first awkward couple of years (you know, trying to meet friends and trying to feel at home) because of Roots. I started in their Women's Only program and made fast friends with the ladies, before I self-graduated myself into the standard track after doing the 2014 Open. If you're a member of Roots, I think you can agree with me - you feel like you're part of something special, something important, something worth preserving at all costs. It's not the cult-mindset (ha, like that even exists in CrossFit); it's the Roots Family outlook. When you're in, you're in.

This week at CrossFit roots after participating in a multi-day gymnastics seminar coached by Shane my wife was invited by her classmates to participate in the daily wod. When she attempted to walk into the group coach Shane asked her "what are you doing". My wife made her wishes known and was coolly informed she is not a member of that box and may not participate. Even when another athlete offered immediately to invite my wife as her guest coach Shane remained adamant that joining the wod was for some reason against the rules. This is a disappointing experience to have at such a well-established box. CrossFit Roots is known to be the home of several well-known CrossFit athletes, good coaching and unfortunately also a somewhat callous management. If you are looking to join a box in Boulder I cannot recommend CrossFit roots.

I found out between Christmas and New Years that I needed to cancel my toddler's class. Cats is closed during this period, so I called and left a message. I called again when the gym reopened and explained my situation. Although the next session started the day that the gym reopened, and they do not allow cancellations within 2 weeks of the session start, they agreed to make an exception given the circumstances as long as I filed my cancellation form that day. I did that. In Feb they charged me for the entire month anyway. I called to point out the mistake, and they agreed that I had been charged in error, but refused to refund the money. Again, I'm not worried about the mistake - I've been a small business owner and understand that things slip through the cracks sometimes. It's the fact that they won't correct an easily correctable mistake that's unacceptable. I'd recommend taking your business to the more honest and reputable options in the area.

I came to this place last week with a bunch of snowboarding friends to practice our backflips, etc…read more for the upcoming season. They broke us up into 3 different groups and had us practicing in different areas: backflips, frontflips and backflips in a harness. The staff as a whole is very attentive although most of our group had a hard time understanding gymnastic "speak" but that is of no fault to the staff. We did have a great time and I believe the lot of us will be returning this week for some more training!

We bought an annual membership at this center about a month ago and we love it! As far as the…read moreprice, we pay out of town rates and are thrilled with them. A few years ago we were members of Lifetime Fitness and let me tell you, those are the prices that are outrageous!! We have three adults and prepaid childcare for a 4-year-old and an infant and it is only $73/month!! So I don't know what the people who are complaining about the price are used to paying but the going rate now at Lifetime is $65/month for just the 1st person. Now, are the locker rooms nicer there, yes. Everything is probably a notch up there but this place is still wonderful for the price. I go at different times during the week and the only time that things have been a bit crowded was this last Sunday afternoon at the pool, but even that was not too bad. The track is nice. There are big windows and you can see the mountains as you walk. You can also pretend you are looking down at the basketball court as you look back to see if you are about to be lapped. You do have to ask for a code before going up but they tell you this if you come in and ask about the center. The pools are a bit chilly (granted it is the middle of winter and there are huge windows) but they are a good size and seem to handle the number of people. I swim every Friday with my 4-year-old and she is usually the only kid. The guards are very nice and very alert! They are constantly walking and counting the guests. I just started taking the interval class and the instructor is great. The people in the class are so supportive too. I am about 100 lbs overweight and was VERY self-conscious about being in this class, but complete strangers were smiling at me, giving me high 5's and when I went to grab my water one lady thought I was upset and leaving. She stopped her work-out to encourage me to stay. That is a pretty great community of people. My kids also love the child care. The workers are so kind. They have never acted put-out or frustrated at all. They seem to really enjoy the kids and mine asks almost everyday if she can go there. My biggest suggestion would have to be some customer service training for some of the front desk staff. I know they are busy and I'm sure they put up with a lot of stuff, but some of them act like they are constantly irritated no matter how polite you are. Again, I don't think that you can beat this facility for the price!!

I'm just not a fan... their swim area isn't ideal. They have a baby pool that's a very small space…read morebut also too much splashing to actually accommodate a baby... The wave pool is kind of cool however it is pretty narrow, and they allow kids to be extra rambunctious in there, which makes it more of a danger than anything. Multiple times I've been there, the lap pool has been closed, which has a rock climbing wall, which maybe could be cool but again it's always been closed. It's the only pool deeper than 3 1/2 feet. They have a small lazy river which could be fun however all kids have to be in a tube and that's just not for everyone. There's a sign on the locker room that says little boys six and under aren't allowed in the women's restroom... Maybe people are fine with that but my six-year-old son is too small to be alone. Also, the biggest turn off is that you have to pay even if you aren't swimming. My kids are smaller and so obviously need a parent, but I don't need to be in the water with them, and you still have to pay, regardless, which is just annoying and kind of a rip off. It's just not where I would choose again.

I have paid Broomfield over $5,000 over the years to be a member, continuing to pay all thru Covid to be supportive without the benefit of being able to use the centers, and this is who greets you at the desk and decides your status. The b-rex online registrations are always!!!! horrible! Let's start with connection. I am sitting IN one of the rec centers right now, so they cannot blame this on my wifi. The sites are slow and not well designed, both of which lend themselves to their dropping you mid-attempt to register. Pointlessly very frustrating to have to start again three times before getting all the way through. The Bay and the rest of the Broomfield rec centers are not connected City entities?! What?! The equipment and pools are good. I especially appreciate the choice of water temps, and the first class lap pools at the BCC.
