I tried Uptown Taco for take-out today and it wasn't the best experience. First, they missed an item in my order. I called the restaurant and the only option was to credit me for what was missing. I appreciated the credit but would have more so appreciated them sending me the missing item. Second, the empanadas we tried were very oily and salty. The meat flavor was good but i couldn't eat these again given how unhealthy they were. A baked option would be better. FInally, the tacos. The restaurant is named for tacos after all. The carne asada tacos were pretty good. 4 out of 5 stars. Fresh ingredients, good quality meat. But the taco shell of the gringo disintegrated before a bite was taken. Their family member has celiac so I already was comfortable eating here. Almost everything is or can be made gluten free. I tried the Buffalo chicken and Thai calamari tacos. A staple of the Floral Park, this place does not disappoint! This is a lovely restaurant that has a nice, casual, almost beachy-esque vibe. It's a smaller place but definitely fills up quickly. Great for a casual taco Tuesday or Friday night happy hour that's extremely family friendly. The food is very good and the portion sizes and adequate. Everything is freshly prepared and well seasoned. Nothing on the menu is really spicy and as a "spicy food connoisseur", I wish more things were. You can add jalapeños but there is an up charge to that. It's about $1, so it's not even that bad. The service is great. Being it is a smaller place, the wait staff are attentive and both the food and drinks come out quickly. We came here for lunch after a recommendation from a coworker. There was a fundraiser going on, and the place was loud. They had some tables open for the public but didn't have a server dedicated to that section, so getting anything including a refill and the check was nearly impossible. Had a hankering for some Mexican food after the long drive into Long Island from Buffalo, and found Uptown Taco through Yelp, and I must say I really enjoyed the experience. The inside seating arra and bar were all taken, but there were tables open outside... considering how hungry I was, I had no issue eating outside. Thursdays are 6 dollar margaritas, and the other party that was outside apparently each enjoyed quite a few to say the least... their boisterous conversation added some unexpected entertainment to my meal. For my meal I had the Al Pastor Burrito Bowl, and the portion was huge, and the flavors of the meat, pico, lettuce, cheese, rice, and beans was extremely pleasing to the palate. Gf took me to this spot over the weekend and I was hesitant because I'm very particular about who makes my tacos. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and how nice and cozy the locale was. It almost has that hipster vibe to it or a millennial recruitment center but I found it really pleasant and most importantly...clean. I've been to Uptown Taco a few times already for both lunch and dinner. Definitely enjoyed all my visits here. Service has always been great, and I've enjoyed all my meals. I can't say they're necessarily authentic Mexican tacos, but they are tasty. On my last visit, my husband and I shared the Al Pastor, the Chicharron, the Nashville Hot Chicken, the Korean Short Rib, and the Mexican Cheesesteak. All were tasty and fresh. I would've given this place 4 stars but we were seated outside it was really cold we had a couple with us who had a 4 month old baby and we asked if we could be accommodated inside but the space is small and we were a party of 8 and they said putting two tables together on such a busy day is kinda impossible so we sucked it up and sat outside. There was no lighting outside we had to use our phones to look at the menu and each other they were having some technical difficulties that night they apologized many times for it. The music is a little loud and that's okay, it made me feel somehow of the times pre-Covid. The vibe is chill and the staff were friendly, always checking up on us if we need anything. After comparing my opinion about Uptown Taco with that of other Yelpers, I'm not sure if my recent take-out experience was just an off one or not. A group of friends and I ordered take-out from Uptown Taco a few weeks ago and shared a bunch of things including the chips & guac, Korean short rib tacos, and a few quesadillas. Our highlight of the meal was the Korean short rib tacos. The meat was packed with flavor and tasted amazing for the first couple of bites. However, it soon became clear that everything was a little bit TOO flavorful, to the point that it became way too salty. It was tough to finish our food because we were all so thirsty halfway through. I'm hoping that this was an isolated incident and I'm eager to give this spot a second chance. read more

I came across this place as I was waiting to do something in the area. The bartender was really nice and gave me some recommendations since it was my first time. She made me a margarita with casa which was really good. I tried the stuffed sweet plantain appetizer which was enough to fill me, but I wanted to try a taco as well. I am not a huge fan of sweet plantain so I only ate one side. The stuffing was very flavorful and paired with the plantain it was the perfect sweet and salty combination.
