A great place to get personalized service. After just a few visits they are greeting you by name…read more Steaks, chops, bacon, ham and roasts cut to your specs. Best breakfast sausage in town. They offer animal slaughter and preparation of the resulting products. There are truly "country" items here that you can't find at the grocery store. Real lard. Rendered fat that hasn't been processed, cleaned, homogenized or whatever other processes store bought lard goes through. Certain days, and while supplies last, pork rinds (cracklin', skins, chicharrones). Locally harvested honey. They don't offer a large selection of beef steak, but what they do offer has always been high quality. I wish they offered New York Strip. I get bacon ends and pieces, by the pound, to use for various things in the kitchen. Wonderful for rendering in an iron skillet and cooking onions in it, before adding to pinto beans or other dishes. Running it through a meat grinder to add to raw cat food. (They were able to procure a couple beef hearts for me to use in cat food making). I can usually walk in and get a variety of meats, cut my way, and then go to a grocery store for miscellaneous items needed to turn it all into wonderful meals. They offer pulled pork (isn't smoked) as well as, slug burger meat mixture http://www.slugburgerfestival.com/what-are-slugburgers/

I purchased a half cow from Rickman's based on the excellent experience I had with them last year…read more At that time, the product quality and customer service were both outstanding. Unfortunately, this most recent purchase was a major disappointment. The ground beef is significantly overworked, with a texture more like paste than proper ground beef. It has an unusually soft, almost mushy consistency, and the meat-to-fat ratio also seems off. While cooking, I have had to drain excessive amounts of grease. The flavor is acceptable, but the texture is often mealy and unpleasant. I contacted the butcher to provide feedback. I was not seeking a replacement for the roughly 120 pounds of ground beef I received. I simply wanted acknowledgment of the issue and reassurance that steps would be taken to prevent it from happening again. Instead, I was told the texture was the result of the cow's genetics. I found that explanation difficult to accept, as texture issues of this nature are typically associated with processing and preparation. Rather than addressing the concern, the response appeared to shift responsibility away from the butcher and onto the rancher. What disappointed me most was not the product itself, but the handling of the concern. A sincere acknowledgment and a willingness to discuss the issue would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, based on both the product quality and the customer service response, I will not be making future purchases from Rickman's.

But what I have been wanting to try is their breakfast and lunch bar. I couldn't find the hours for the bar printed anywhere (6a-9:30a). I just assumed breakfast would be until ten. So made it at 9:35. Most of it had been taken away, but asked if I could still be served with what was left. Lots of looking left and right trying to decide. Finally said yes if I was ok with what was out. I had scrambled eggs bacon and a biscuit. It was very good. Not saying it would be as good as an atlanta breakfast place like Callie's hot little biscuit. But it was good and $2.45. Lunch (10:30 or 11a until they run out which apparently is between 2-3p). I had Lima beans black eyed peas and rice with a yeast roll (or cornbread or spicy cornbread). $5. It was good. Hot and hit the spot. Not amazing. But good. I would go back. I expected the staff to be nicer and friendly since they are locally owned and operated. However, the staff at the bar tend to be surly, while the check out staff are always friendly. Not sure if they hate their jobs and owners or just always having a bad day when I go.

My husband had the BLTC sandwich, and I had the Blue Canoe Burger. We both got orders of Truffle fries. My husband raved about how good his sandwich was. My burger was absolutely fantastic. The blue cheese and bacon jam complemented each other very well. I love that the burgers are handmade and fresh, instead of machine-formed and frozen. The truffle fries were awesome and the toppings on the fries just took it up a notch! We got a prepackaged homemade Mocha Chocolate Cake to take home. It was also fantastic. The cake was chocolate on top of chocolate and very moist. If the restaurant was closer to us, we would probably go every week. We will definitely be going back!!!!!!!

The burgers are made fresh and have some really unique topping combinations, so there are plenty of options if you want something besides a basic cheeseburger. Service has always been fast when we've been, and the atmosphere is very casual and laid-back.
