Inconsistent terms of sale: I was told numerous times that there were no conditions to the sale. Knowing Uptown's prior policies, I asked repeatedly about the specifics, even bringing up items to confirm that the employees were knowledgeable. Unfortunately, at the register I was told by the manager that "since it was store-owned" (despite being marked 50 percent off in red sharpie), it would not qualify for the sale. This directly contradicted what two separate employees had told me. I truly love Uptown and I've always appreciated their sales, but this situation felt neither ethical nor consistent. If I could leave a less than zero, would be more appropriate. In late December 2024 I brought 3 steampunk corsets, 6 faux fur sweater vests with the tags still on, as in never worn, and a velour hoodie, also never worn. The sales girl, I believe her name is Bridget, was a bit uptight and rude but I figured I would bite my tongue. I have come across condescending and self absorbed people in my 55 years and she was the epitome of these adjectives. I wanted to sell these Items so I said nothing. When I came back to the store a week or so later, I was informed that I made 10 dollars and change. When I asked to speak to this rude girl, she seemed perplexed that I was upset. I am not gonna lie. I told her to loose the attitude and loud enough for the customers to hear, I called out the scam. I was ripped off. DO NOT EVER BRING ANYTHING OF VALUE TO THIS PLACE. I am still shocked by this blatant money grab at my expense. Plato's Closet opened down the street. I would trust them over these scammers. 10 dollars didn't cover my gas to get there. I have been a customer at uptown consignment for over a decade now and am finally fed up to the point where I am writing my first review. The last two times I went (this past year) put such a bad taste in my mouth I will not be returning. I witnessed a customer, who did not speak English, be yelled at aggressively by a frustrated employee. This employee was enraged that the customer could not understand what they were saying to them and instead of calming down and finding a different way to communicate their message, they got increasingly loud and rude with the customer. This was so shocking and NO ONE came to help the customer or calm down the employee. The customer eventually left and the employee continued to talk about this customer in a negative way loudly enough for everyone in the store to hear. My last time there I was trying on a denim skirt and found a USED RETAINER in the front pocket. Like the top and bottom set of a mouth retainer. I still cannot believe I have to type those words. I regret not taking a picture but was so shocked I didn't know what to do. I immediately brought the skirt to the employee at the back desk and said you need to check your clothes more closely, that is DISGUSTING. The manager did not apologize for having unsanitary items and was extremely standoffish and rude the whole time I was there. The person I was shopping with even tried speaking to the manager and she completely ignored her. I put all of the clothes I had to try on immediately back on the rack for fear of trying on more unsanitary clothing items. I will not be returning to this location and hope you consider shopping somewhere else that doesn't charge ridiculously inflated prices for dirty and worn clothes and offer rude customer service. read more

Told myself I would wait at least 4 hours before posting a review on this place and really dontvwant to make it personal but after spending 2 days. hexking in with the J, the buyer on whether I should put the effort into hauling all the the vintage, hard to find Shafford collection that is a small fortune on ebay, I am dearly sorry I did so in the 95 degree heat. I knew as soon as I got to back of store this was not goingvto go well bec it was the manager/ owner K, who I gave dealt woth before, not with great results. She didnt even look at the dresses which were summerdresses in solid zippered bags. she said to me "we dont do that here". so you dont do gunne sax or nordstrom? "no,we only do current things." i wanted to say right, thats whybyou have the the 70's bedroom set displayed at front of the store. listen, i would not take away an owners right to know what would sell & would not. but honey, this is Southington, not Rodeo Drive in LA. K was SO ASCERBIC, obnoxious & rude I will never be back as a customer. not that this will hurt her- this place is a gold mine. but really she could use a course or two on etiquette & common decency. awful. just awful interaction. i thought about giving all my discount cards to my GFs but that would just help her business.and they all know she's like this but continue to visit as clientele, because, well, "things."never again. only other point I would like to make is there are plenty of people that have bad days that dont take it out on their customers! I will come here always again and again. They take pretty much everything, the women who work here are incredible, they have fabulous customer service, and how they are organiaed it makes it easy to find what you want. Need a fun green sweater, go to the sweater section, your size, then that color area. Done. Their prices are great and reasonable. Seller review: Very rude staff. They always have a passive-aggressive comment and dirty looks for each item they reject. Buyer review: Good selection, ok prices, friendly checkout staff. However once I asked if a smelly garment could be reduced and they claimed not to smell anything. When I insisted they said "ok it smells like old cologne but thats just from you trying it on". Please don't waste your time. The staff at the back of the store has some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Nasty attitudes, not making eye contact and treating you like trash when you bring in items to consign. I've experienced this on several occasions over the past decade. It's unreal how they think they can treat customers. The store is so overfilled and disorganized, it's overwhelming to shop in. Some of the items that they take in are less than desirable - dirty, pilling on garments, etc. There are other consignment stores in the area that put this one to shame and treat their patrons with kindness and respect. read more

This consignment shop is amazing. It seems that all the bad reviews are coming from privileged Karen's and that's from personal experience shopping in the store and being a retail/service industry worker. If your main goal is to get the most money for your used clothes then you should try to sell them online. Southington uptown consignment has policies about what they do and don't take just like every other thrift/consignment store. Their prices are good and their quality is good. If you are looking for THEE most top notch quality I would recommend just saving the money and buying it new. This store really is a pillar in the community and gives middle/low income people the chance to get very nice clothes for a low price. I thought this was common knowledge but it doesn't seem to be looking at the comments. The workers are doing just fine for what they are being paid. It seems like they are just following the policies given to them by the store and may be a little fed up with no one caring to even look at their policies before they bring loads of clothes that the workers have to sort through and deal with once the customer has left. read more

Frustrating. They do not accept returns even for store credit on ANY items even with tags and receipt. I recently bought a dress that was quite pricey and I changed my mind after only a few days. They refused to even give me store credit. The tags were on and I had the original receipt. It's just not worth buying expensive things here. I understand not allowing returns on minimally priced items, that makes sense, but on items over $50? I think they need to rethink their policy. I stopped going to Uptown Consignment because I waited 2 hours for them to look at my items one day in April 2019, but it's not just that i bought items that was new & they passed out on it & most of staff that was there is gone. The store is super clean and especially organized for the amount of clothes have, and there's so many options for whatever you're looking for! Yeah, I'm a dude reviewing a clothing consignment shop, go ahead, make fun of me. Lucky me that I got rid of seven (7) bags of old (used) clothes. Here are my complaints and I STRONGLY urge you to review all of their policies like you're signing a pre-nup. 1. You give them your clothes to sell (cool) they take profits and give you a schilling (not cool) 2. Most of your clothes will probably be kept for about 30 days for them to sell. If they can't sell them and you don't pick them up before 30 days, they get to KEEP them and you get nothing (FAIL). 3. If you happen to have "big ticket" items (a nice pair of shoes), they keep them longer (up to 90 days). If you want any of your items back prior to the expiration, they charge you $2 each (more not cool). 4. When you pick up your items, make sure you're good at scavenger hunts. The staff will NOT HELP you locate your items (ridiculous). In my case I could not locate four (4) of my items, the staff put them on a list to locate and call me when found. I never got called and when I returned to the store to inquire, I was told that since it was past 30 days the store now owned the items (SHADY). 5. Website. I got a cool membership card that said I could check whether or not my items sold online. I checked it out. Not sure if it was Atari or Coleco, but the site was awful and didn't work. I strongly suggest you avoid this store. My suggestion is to go instead to Plato's Closet. You might not make a ton of $$$ but you won't have to deal with the shady policies and poor business practices I described above. I ultimately gave my items to a local charity. I'm sure a poor dude will appreciate my gator kicks more-so than the hamburglars at Uptown. read more

Watch out for some of the girls that work there. They either give you dirty looks, whisper about you to coworkers while trying to shop and lecture you about why your clothes aren't good enough for them. All of the stuff I tried to consign was 10x better than the crap they got in there. Also make sure you know what you brought and when, because the description of the item is no help to you and you probably won't get it back if it doesn't sell. There was one time I went to go pick up the items that didn't sell and some of my items were completely missing. They never wrote it down so watch out for thievery within the employees. I've been shopping at Uptown Consignment in Southington, CT for years. They have the absolute best deals out there in the consignment world. I constantly get compliments on all I buy there, and tell everyone it came from Uptown Consignment. The gals that work there are always helpful whether you are consigning or purchasing. After being a member of the Southington Uptown Consignment for quite a while I am very displeased to find out today when I called to check on the balance of my account that a almost brand new suede coat I had brought to them in the latter part of 2019 was donated to a charity in the area after 90 days. If I had known that they were doing that I would have put it back on Facebook Marketplace and tried to sell it myself as I could have used the funds. This was not explained and unless it's in big print in the store, that is bad business. They need to do a better job explaining this to their patrons. read more

I just found out from someone ( have to be vague on details to not give away the Identity) that not only is it true they 'forget' to add items into the computer or list them differently than the paper they give to people consigning so when they sell it , it isn't attached to a consignors account and the money goes to the store 100% vs. to the consignor but they definitely hide what they like so it becomes highly discounted for employees and their friends! How can you sell a brand new, never used *******(won't say for fear of them knowing whose item this is , a friends in this case but don't want her to get blow back for telling me this incident ) after 3 weeks and the consignor received less than 50 cents? Also, watch out for the blonde manager who is a Jesus freak. She has been caught giving nasty looks to people who say "Jesus Christ" or "god damnit". And one of her co workers was saying it's a losing battle for them with her subtle preaching and sanctimonious attitude to certain consignors she feels aren't living the god like way (one woman she went on and on about due to her low cut top) DO NOT TRUST THEM. read more

I used to go to this consignment shop quite frequently but not anymore. Today was the final straw! I brought in clothing (mint condition dresses, shoes, some house ware items and 2 purses.) The only things that they "accepted" were the house ware items and 2 purses, no clothing or shoes. While I understand that 2 of the dresses were not seasonal, the one evening dress was rejected because as the girl said, "We don't accept that designer anymore". . . What? Also, I mentioned to them that I was told awhile ago that this store no longer accepts business suits for women when I attempted to bring one in. When I noticed that they had a whole rack of them in the store, one of the girls with an "attitude" said "show me where they are. ." She didn't know? I preceded to show her and then she with an "attitude" said , "well are the suits you are bringing in petite?" I , being a size 8 petite woman said , "Yes". . .How insulting. . .She then said, "You can bring them in but I can't promise you anything. . " What? . .So they accepted them in the past, lied to me in the past, and might reject mine again if I try to bring them in again????? Someone needs to train their staff better. . .My ramblings are to warn you not to bother with this place. It is dumpy and lacks class. There are some dresses on the rack that have been there for months with stains on them. . I would shop somewhere else, not here!! read more

Everytime I go into the Southington store with a coupon, the sale never applies. There is always a catch to the policy that the store makes up as they go along. Example; today I was about to purchase a pair of leather boots for $78. The sale on the internet started 50 % off any lavender or orange tag. They were tagged orange. I get up to the register and the sales rep says it only applies to items over $78. Hmmm! She said I should speak with he manager which I did. I was hoping they would agree to the sale price since the information on the internet did not indicate anywhere that it applied to items $78 or more. This is the second time something like this happened to me at the Southington store in a month. The last time I picked up 5 items and they said the advertised sale would not apply to any of the items. There was some excuse or another. This strange business practice of false advertising has never happened at any other location. In fact I asked the Cheshire store about these incidents and they said they would never do this and would honor whatever the internet coupon stated. Has anyone else had the same trouble at the Southington location? I think I need to stay awa Also I forgot to mention that I brought in a brand new pair of Manono Blahniks that I bought at Saks for $700+. Tags on and in box. When Twice As Nice Consignment closed in Wallingford, I looked around for another shop to resell my items. I found Uptown Consignment in Southington and thought my search had ended. Guess again. I brought two items in that sold immediately. Funny, I went to the store a day or two after bringing them in and didn't see them anywhere. But they sold. Now what I got for them was a joke. They offer so many discounts and coupons to their buyers that it reduced the price on my high end items to mere dollars. I later brought in another 6 items and went back a week later, looked all over the store and they are nowhere to be found. I asked if they had any money for me, they checked my account and nope. Nothing. I asked if they shipped consigned items to other stores, because I couldn't find any of my items anywhere. She said no, checked the computer and said, yes, we have your 6 items here. I asked where they were, cause they weren't in the store. She said, they could be on layaway, or being "held". What does that mean? Can someone put them on layaway or hold them for over a month and then get the 50% reduction? Their prices are so low as it is, I don't think they should offer layaway or Holding items unless it is a very expensive item. Honestly, I was excited about their computerized system and checking my money online, but there is some hanky panky going on and I honestly don't expect to get any money back again. This website is loaded with similar bad reviews of them and it is very telling that management is not responding to any of these accusations or offering to look into it or help. I am very disappointed with them and will be looking for an alternative consignment shop that is honest and trustworthy. When I consigned at Twice As Nice in Wallingford, I enjoyed walking around the store and seeing all my items there. Sorry I won't be able to do the same in Southington. I would rather donate my items to charity, than support these crooks. Don't consign here folks. read more

I would give this place five stars if it wasn't for the service. We walked in around 7:30pm and they did not hesitate to tell us they were closing soon. Totally understand but it was just a little off-putting because they were kinda rude about it. When we were shopping the girls were complaining about their work, the hours and told us again that they were closing soon. Ok, first time is fine, second time is a little ridiculous. When I checked out, the girl said very little and she didn't say thank you either. You could tell they just wanted us out. I loved the merchandise and if I hadn't been so rushed and felt like I was a nuisance, I would have easily spent $100 more. Your loss. read more

I enjoyed reading Phil M's review below, but since I am not a "seller" of clothes to this particular consignment shop, I can only review them based on buying there. I have never had an issue at this store, mainly because what I go there to buy is usually things for my home or something like a jacket. I really love their sales and they email you coupons that you can just show your Smartphone and get the sale. Overall a decent store. Downside: I HATE when they over crowd the racks. This drives me insane. I like to be able to browse what they are selling, but when everything is jammed packed into the rack, it makes me want to just leave. Also, the store is usually 95 degrees. Don't bring your jacket inside, you will be hot and toasty before you even start to shop. read more

This is one of the best and well-run consignment shops in my area! I was lucky to find them. They were very honest and experienced. They seem to run the store very well. I was confident that I was giving my clothing to people who would take care of it, and be honest. The girl that looked at my clothes was very nice and helpful and seemed to know what she was doing. I'm headed to Miami next weekend and I've found perfect outfits for all 4 days that I'm there! I've come multiple occasions to consign clothing, almost all of which no issues. However today I witnessed one woman proclaiming loudly she was "over it" and not happy. And of course this is the woman I get to go through my clothing. I watched as she flung, yes literally flung as if it was disgusting, my clothing and left everything, but two pieces, in a pile of mess. I have never experienced such customer service. And having worked in retail over 5 years my clothing is constantly up to date. If she didn't want to accept it great. But no need to act like it's disgusting & a waste of your time....if ur so over it maybe you should leave. Guess it's luck of the draw to whom gets to sort your clothes. read more
