I've both bought and sold at Uptown. They're quite selective in the merchandise that they'll accept and that's actually a good thing because I know I won't have to waste my time looking through stained, wrinkled, torn, worn or outdated clothing and accessories. The styles they carry are less 'funky' than Plato's closet, which is more for the edgy teen and tween set. I'm in my 50's, but too skinny to fit into a lot of ladies clothing. I also don't want to be that granny wearing juniors fashions that make me look silly! At Uptown I can almost always find something that makes me feel mature AND pretty. If you go, be prepared to spend more than an hour because their selection is so large and varied. The jewelry, housewares and toiletries they sell are also worth a good look since you can find some genuine bargains! I'm glad to see that consignment is now such a big thing. I almost never shop at the retail stores anymore because I love the savings to be had and also love the thrill of the hunt! read more

The shop is really cool and some of the displays are fantastic but everything is very disorganized, they need to make sure they are sizing accurately and checking the racks. And the consignment is only accepted before 4 o'clock even if they close at 6. First time customer and they wouldn't let me drop off at 4:01. Not impressed. read more

Great selection, great prices, and good customer service. This place feels like a mix between a consignment and thrift shop - in a really awesome way! I always find the perfect mix of some nice stuff and some crazy stuff that I'd never buy but would love to try on. I lost 54 lbs on Atkins, and needed new clothes. I could not afford to buy a whole new wardrobe, so how wonderful this store is for bargains. I was able to get 6 pairs jeans, shirts and some accessories, all for about $60, which would have cost hundreds of dollars brand new. I have been back to this store several times, and never disappointed. The staff is wonderful and helpful. read more

Something recently happened with this shop. Looks like new staff that appear overwhelmed. Drop offs are a complete disaster. Clothes and misc. items all over the counters and floors. My drop offs were dumped in a corner among other items, mixed in. When I went to pick up what they didn't take they could not find them, so of course my concern is what happened to the items they took? Went to check my account and nothing was listed as being dropped off. Confirms what I thought would go wrong, went wrong. Few days later went back in to drop off more items. (I must be nuts - should have learned but figured give them another chance. Big mistake.) They took the items and gave me a slip that only said "Halloween Decorations". No number of how many, no description. Giving them a few more days to see if they end up in my account - then will check and will contact manager if this doesn't clear up. My suggestion - track everything you drop off and check your account online to be sure they are tagged to your account. They have a very lax attitude and not the friendliest group. The group they had before were much more happy and accommodating. And much more organized. For now, I'm taking my consignments elsewhere. I hope management steps in to evaluate. read more

I began consigning my late mother's clothing at Uptown in South Windsor last fall. She passed away in her early 60s, and left behind a very large, freshly dry-cleaned wardrobe that included great pieces (clothing, shoes, purses), much of which had never been worn. My father suggested consignment and I'm so glad I chose Uptown Consignment in South Windsor. It is a bit of a hike from western Massachusetts, but they are worth the trip! All of the people I've met there have been professional, super friendly, and considerate. Patti is always so welcoming and Chantale has helped me carry empty storage bins back to my car with me, which is totally not necessary but such a nice gesture. As long as you bring items in good condition, reasonably within current trends (save the leisure suits and shoulder pads for Halloween!) and within the current season they do accept many items. The payout is fair and you can use money in your account to shop in the store, with a 10% discount. I spent so many years donating barely-worn, nice clothing to charity as I changed sizes, that I wish I'd known more about consignment earlier. I could have made back a lot of money! Anyway I definitely recommend Uptown Consignment in South Windsor. Go go go! read more

I've been shopping for years at Uptown in Rocky Hill location but happened to be visiting in South Windsor so thought I would check it out and OMG!!!! This place is huge and it's beautiful! I never ever had some much fun shopping and I found more bargains that can fit in my little car. You have got to see this place! read more

I traveled to the Uptown Consignment store in South Windsor to consign clothing that included jeans my son had outgrown and also my daughters pageant grade dresses, ball gowns, and formal interview suits; quite a few of which were never worn were new with tags, or were worn for just a few minutes on stage. When I arrived the lady at the counter said I would need to wait about a half an hour for her to go through the clothes even though there were two clerks there and just a short pile of clothes from another person on another counter she needed to go through. I walked around the store for about 15 minutes and the pile of the other person's clothes was still on the counter when I went up to the counter again. I guess the clerk decided she was done visiting and ready to go through the clothing I brought in. She looked through all the clothing. I told her one of the dresses had a value of $450 retail and then others of the several pageant dresses and suits were custom. There were at least a dozen dresses and other clothing items too. She looked over everything and then covered everything back up with plastic again . She said some of them had snags and some of them had deodorant marks and that she couldn't take any of them today. However, I was welcome to clean them all up and bring them back as she would definitely take the red ball gown . The red ball gowns happened to be the cheapest pageant dress in the lot so so much for being able to identify quality garments! She did, however, decide to take my sons gently worn jeans. I asked the clerk if she was sure about not taking the prom dresses even though I noticed on the sales rack there were very few gowns for available. I also pointed out that many of the dresses were new with tags and had not been worn. Of course there may have been some details I could have missed on a couple garments, but really out of the 20 pounds of clothing I brought in you want nothing??? I did carefully put them on hangers and inspected each garment when I did so. Also, my daughter does not wear deodorant with a pageant gowns just so it will not leave marks. Perhaps the clothing I brought in was not the same as her personal taste, or perhaps it was too close to her quitting time for her to deal with stocking the clothing. I told the clerk I will not be bringing the clothes back in and I politely questioned if she was making the correct business decision by asking her was she sure? She handed me back everything I brought in except for the jeans. Now by this time of course I was not pleased and quite frankly I was tired from carrying all those things into the store. They were quite heavy! The thought of carrying all these dresses back to my car and off to Goodwill did not appeal to me. So on my way out of the store I found a mother and a teen girl told them about what I had just gone through, and asked them if they would like the clothing. The daughter was so excited! I did the right thing by passing it on to someone who would really enjoy the dresses, and passed on to a nice mother and daughter what was easily more than $1,000 worth of dresses new retail. I would not bother in the future to bring anything in to Uptown Consignment. Also, heads up to pageant moms! I saw quite a few garden variety overpriced prom dresses on the sales rack. Just because you tag a dress $400 doesn't mean it is of pageant grade. Based on my counter experience and what I saw on the racks, I can confidently say we will exclude Uptown Consignment from our future pageant dress shopping. read more
