I decided to try Uptown Cheapskate again to appraise my items & it was MUCH better this time. The man at the counter was friendly when checking in. They appraised my items quickly, which I appreciated. I do wait in my vehicle while they do so, otherwise you do have to wait all day for them to appraise. My only gripe with this visit is besides the man who checked me in, the rest of the staff does still have an attitude problem. I asked the woman who checked me out which items they took because I just wanted to make a mental note of what I no longer had, and she really did have such an attitude about it and acted like it was a big inconvenience for her. I think at least if we are selling our items, we do have the right to know without attitude what items we sold. That being said, I will be back, but I wish that they had better customer service. read more

My husband and I went into this location on Wednesday night, 3/4, while visiting Houston. When we walked in, we thought the store was closing since a young lady was sweeping. There were 3 young adults working. We asked are you closing? All 3 just stared at us. The young man finally mumbled no. We said hello to all 3 employees. No one reciprocated. They just stared at us. Well I came here cause they said that they buy gently used clothing that's in good condition barely used and in style I had at least 15 to 20 pair of jeans that I took over there that were the distressed kind which are in style right now and they were barely used very good condition, not worn in between the legs or anything, and they did not take any of them. They made me waste my time over there. They hardly went through my clothes and then they paid me almost nothing for the one pair that they did take. Hit or miss store. I've visited this store multiple times, and each trip is a bit of a gamble. Sometimes I walk out happy with great finds--like clothing in excellent condition, some even with tags still on. Other times, I leave disappointed because everything looks picked over and there's nothing new. The service is just okay. Most visits, I walk in and walk right back out. The employees can be hit or miss, and they don't always offer fair prices when buying your items. For example, I once brought in a brand new Michael Kors purse, tags and all, and they only offered me seven dollars for it. They wouldn't have been willing to pay for it if they knew it was in bad style or condition. Ultimately, this store is all about the luck of the draw. You might find a hidden gem or walk out empty-handed. If you enjoy the thrill of the hunt, it might be worth a visit--but don't expect consistent quality or value. read more

Attitude problems with these employees. Can't even ask for help before getting a passive aggressive tone like I did them wrong. Dropped off clothes and it took them 10 minutes to give us a price on the clothes but did not bother telling us at all. Told us to come back in a b1tchy tone. Went to pickup the cash out and another employee was rude as well. Literally asked her where the bathroom was and told me "we don't have bathrooms here" in again another b1tchy tone.. Like be fr, I was just asking where the bathroom was. I can get better service at a trap house. Clothes are never actually looked through entirely, offers are always very low despite taking several items, and prices are increasing for simply ugly clothes. Every single worker screams "welcome" from across the store but none of them truly mean it at all. Used to be alright, now it's just uncomfortable being in the store. I went into this location to sell and donate clothing. I was told it would take 40-45 minutes and to browse the store. As I'm walking around I'm noticing staff are not going through all the bags of items customers are bringing in, including mine. The guy calls mine name and states we can't use any of your items. My items were still in the bag as I placed them. I told them I would donate but I wanted my bag. The issue is they're not going through the items at the time but will do it later and keep what they want making a profit on you without paying you for the items they want. And look at how many people they probably do this too. It's sad people lack integrity and character for a monetary gain. I'm grateful I have a giving heart and God blesses me daily. This was my first and last visit I keep patronizing your competition. Money brings out the devil in some people. Anyone going to sell clothes here pay attention. read more

Love this place! They have great name brand clothes/shoes/purses/accessories! Quality is fantastic and employees are sweet. I bought a pair of A&F jeans for $11.99 and absolutely love them! Honestly, the worst customer service i've ever experienced! I drive a long way to shop at uptown but this last visit was my last straw. The store would be great if their rude workers tried to do their job. Rather than the blonde girl helping or trying to explain technical issues with coupons they just ignore it and expect me not to notice the price-so not cool! When I confronted them the red headed girl told me my coupon that i had just redeemed in real time was old and they forgot to delete. Not sure how their incompetence became my problem. Tiffany came to "handle" the situation and didn't say a word to me. Didn't give me my coupon. They are always so rude! Even when I provided feedback to the owner Tim explaining the situation nothing was acknowledged or done. I can only hope these girls get some customer service training one day because you're going to run a business down acting the way you do. I want to first say that I love the selection of clothes. Particularly the womens dresses. Really cute, decently priced. The store is well organized. I have bought a lot from here already especially considering that I just discovered this place maybe a month and a half ago. So my complaint is not the actual products. My issue is the service. So I get that its a kinda "luxury/fancy" type of resale shop but I found my latest experience somewhat "mean girlish". I got a text that said i could get like 10 off a purchase of 30. So i go up to the shop (about an hour before closing) and one of the ladies working there were organizing the racks and i was looking at the dresses, i look to my left and i see her staring and whispering with another employee and then she came over near me and starts hitting the racks, like she was obviously annoyed that maybe she thought i was messing up her organization of the racks or something I looked at her and said "you know I can do that" she looked at me and "oh its fine". I said "its ok, i dont mind" she responded "its fine" it made me feel like i shouldn't be there looking at the clothes. So i had a few dresses to go try on and the fitting room is closed. Another sign that I should not be there and now they are probably even more annoyed that they have to go place those dresses on the racks since i wasnt interested at that point in purchasing them without trying them on considering that all sales are final. Sucks because now i just don't know if i want to even come back and it has nothing to do with the clothes. My advice for those that decide to shop here, make sure you keep those racks looking perfect because they will talk about you and dont expect to be able to try anything on an hour before closing because its closed. Personally, i feel the ladies working there may want to be more discreet when chatting about customers because its a bit on the rude side. Would've been a 5 star rating. read more

These people are THIEVES. My wife went there to sell her Michael Kors purse, Beijo purse, prom dress that was purchased for $300 from a boutique store and other clothes. She was told that they could not give her an estimate nor a price of how much everything costed. She left the clothes with them for 45 minutes with hopes of getting a phone call the total of what they'd buy it for. Instead she received an email, which is attached to this review, they offered her $3 everything and apparently that's their store policy. Once you leave your clothes with them they can give you whatever they wish and you have no say wether you want to sell or not. These people should be shut down for stealing, they're literal thieves with a storefront. If you're looking to get robbed, take whatever clothing you want to sell to them, they'll be sure to make you feel like a victim. read more

I came here on a Tuesday to sell some clothes and the staff treated me and my sister horribly. The passive aggressive attitude by every employee in the store was not needed at all, and it was given to us the second we walked through the door. The lady that seemed to be in charge clearly did not care about any of the customers and the younger employee lied to us about not being able to take shoes. I've sold my clothes and shoes here and to be perfectly honest it's not too bad. Most of these reviews are probably people who didn't review the policy on the selling system. If you stay inside the store you can get your clothes back or donate them to charity. If you leave I believe it is once you get the estimate there is no bargaining but I didn't know you were unable to not take your items back. I mean I don't sell purses and stuff so I wouldn't know. But back to the main topic. They do (as 2 reviews have stated) give sometimes very and I mean VERY little estimates. If you bring shoes with clothes, you'll get more. But if it's just like shirts jeans and jackets, don't get your hopes up. At most you'll get like 15-30 bucks. The most I got was 44 and that was because I sold doc martins I didn't like to them. Their prices are very reasonable but they aren't exactly cheap. I think it's mainly because of the thriving thrift culture that stores tend to take advantage of this (I am not saying they are. Please don't hate me employees). Anything that is Levi or similar will probably be about 17-27 dollars max. Most shirts are sometimes 3-9 dollars and jackets cost about 10-20 bucks. Not too bad at all considering that's what they're worth once used. Now some reviews are correct, as most outlet stores in the area (like Kohls, JCPenny, and the Houston Premium Outlets) have lower prices on new items, but that doesn't mean you're getting what you pay for. If you don't want to pay more, then go here. It's reasonably priced and if you want to go somewhere else just do it. I actually like most of the stuff they carry and in due time (probably next Friday) I will go and scout myself for some clothes and again trade some in for store credit. In conclusion, uptown cheapskate might not be like the holy grail for people who just want clothes at a cheaper price, but for people who want clothes or quality brand clothing, then this is the place to be. And next time you want to complain about the estimates and such, be sure to review it like I did and stay in store to ensure you don't make the mistake some people have made. read more

NEVER SELL CLOTHES HERE, HORRIBLE!!! I went in to sell clothes and a Coach bag that's very new and they only paid me $21 WITHOUT my consent. I went in to see how much they will offer me for my bag or I can sell it myself on Facebook for more. I dropped off the clothes and return after 2 hours later and it still wasn't finished so I left and come back the next day. Just to find out they took and bag and didn't double check or ask if this is ok with me and lowball me for a hundred dollars worth Coach bag. They say "WHATEVER YOU BRING IN TO THE STORE, WE OWNS IT." But how can you own it before paying me for my clothes or consent??? I asked for the bag back and not take the money but they won't let me. They lowball you on your clothes, employees are mean girls (they laughed at me when I had a little lipstick smudge instead of helping), employees did not walk you through the selling process, and they own everything when drop off before paying you for it!! read more

I will say, this is definitely one of the closest thrift stores near my home. I went inside and checked out what they had goin on. They had a pretty good selection of clothes and shoes and they even allow you to sell your clothes for what it's worth. I took my clothes here just to see what they're able to buy. I wasn't really satisfied however since I felt like I had a whole box and a bag full of good quality clothes that were worth selling for. They were able to buy 4 things from me for $14... which I did take the money, but I could do better selling my clothes online. i come here sometimes to exchange clothes for cash, and everytime i've come, they kept the box i brought the clothes in and donated the rest, service and workers were great, and i didn't feel the need to right a negative review. today, however, the workers were short and sassy. this black girl with straight, short hair (i didn't care to know her name) was very impatient and couldn't even make eye contact with me. she put the boxes full of leftovers on the floor for me to take, and i questioned if they were going to donate it like i asked. she sighed, grabbed the first box, and dumped the clothes on the floor. she did the same thing with the other box, and slammed them on the table for me to take. i said thank you, and she rolled her eyes and turned away from me. girl needs an attitude check and a lesson on how to talk to people, especially customers. all of the other workers were great, it was just that one girl that pissed me off enough to write a review. read more

For the pros it is very organized and clean. All of the employees I interacted with were very helpful. For the cons it's the prices. This is a resale shop but the prices are more expensive than you would find a lot of these items for on sale brand new in their original store. I found several items that had price tags from the original store and the item was only priced a few dollars lower. I prefer to shop second hand because of the environmental impact of fast fashion but seeing items priced this high for resale makes that choice much harder. The quality of the clothing isn't much different than most resale shops. I found a sweater that had a hole in the collar. It was mendable but it was priced at $25. I also found a shirt I liked but it had a stain on it and was still priced $15. If these items were in perfect condition I would still have a hard time paying these prices for used clothing. If you're on a budget this probably won't be the store for you. But if keeping clothing out of landfills is the most important thing for you this place has some good options. For me I'll look at the smaller resale shops around town with better prices. read more
