My first hvac "adventure" came in the winter of 2017, when my outside unit froze after a warm-ish night with rain followed by a blast of Arctic air in the morning. I learned this had happened to many around the Upstate. On a trusted handyman's recommendation, I was able to get Upstate Air to come to the house and diagnose the problem and instruct me on what steps to take if this should happen in the future. I have recommended this firm to colleagues ever since. They do my 6-month diagnostic checks on the units, and their rates are reasonable, their personnel Good People and exceptionally careful to check things that I'd guess others would not. And so, two years ago when my outside unit needed replacement, they found me a top-of-the-line unit for a great price, and with a ten-year warranty. Last week, a tiny leak of water from the unit in the attic was the problem, and I received instructions to unblock a drain pipe when they couldn't come the day I called, and to bail some of the water out of the pan. A later development brought the senior expert to the house, where he discovered an unusual situation (small trickles of water coming down a wall), and he checked around the attic unit until he discovered the issue and fixed it. It was a busy day for him, he made time to come and inspect, and he didn't charge me for the house call. (He's one of the nicest professionals I am fortunate to deal with). I continue to recommend Upstate Air when someone is looking for professional hvac service.
