If I could give UPS a 0/5, I would. Their business model for delivering decent customer service is not just lacking - it's non existent. Their miserable-sounding employees seem to change their opinions on a whim, their deliverers are not acquainted with the buzzer, and their web and telephone systems are so bad, they make government websites look user-friendly. (The employees were not willfully trying to keep me from my package, and their miserable demeanors are probably caused by working for a company that hand-delivers dissatisfaction to customers all over; the fault is with the company, even though the employees sadly get the worst rap for it).
After leaving work early, twice, missing two completely unannounced deliveries, getting an email that my package had arrived at a UPS store location nearby my house, and going there only to discover that it had not arrived anywhere at all;
after going through their moronic and dysfunctional website and automated phone service - the SPEAKING kind, that says "goodbye," when you ask it to "track a package;"
after finally reaching a human being, and being told that they couldn't change the delivery to my work address, even though we LITERALLY have a shipping and receiving area that welcomes UPS, and telling me that the store location by my house is full and there's nothing they can do;
after my partner called them a few minutes later pretending it was his package with the exact same information I had provided, and them telling him that they'll deliver it to the aforementioned "full" UPS store location with no problems (let's just pause to note that I was not loud, rude or emotional on the phone until the end, and provided the information my partner repeated word-for-word when he called, so why they should have treated him differently from me is unclear to me);
and finally, the beautiful cherry on top in the form of the the UPS store employee who was so busy swiveling in his chair and listening to horrible techno-dance music about sex parties that he, upon my calling him to confirm if my package was there and what I needed to pick it up, failed to make the distinction between government-issued ID, and government-issued ID alongside something with my current address on it (despite the fact that my surname is incredibly rare), resulting in me having to run home and back up not a short distance;
after all of that, I have come to my own conclusion that UPS is atrocious. But let's be honest, I did not have to go farther than anyone who has ever had a delivery from UPS to have learned this, as is reflected in their average ratings of 1/5. read more
