Montclair's BEST barber shop! More and more barbershops are opening around town, and I've been to nearly all of them. Dennis and his crew, particularly Sean, are the ones who know their business best. No appointments. No gimmicks. Just friendly people giving great haircuts at very reasonable prices. They've been providing great service that is worthy of their prime Valley Road location since 2001. I'm sticking with these guys from now on. read more

I am not one who typically writes reviews, but felt compelled to tell my story regarding Balonze's Barber Shop, and my barber Vera. Finding a place you can trust to cut your hair can be a scary task. My uncle owns his own barber shop, and had been cutting my hair my entire life (38 years free of charge). I had never let anyone else cut my hair, however it was getting to be a hassle having to go out of my way to get to his barber shop. Even though I was getting my haircuts for free I decided to give a local barber shop a shot. In doing some online research I came across Balonze Barber Shop which is very close to my home, so I decided to go for it. One thing that I was very impressed about was the fact that they have multiple barbers which makes the wait time very minimal. The other great thing is that they are open seven days a week. My first haircut was given by a women named January (no longer working there) which I thought was pretty good especially being as nervous as I was trusting someone other than my uncle to cut my hair. When I went back for my second haircut a few weeks later it was done by Vera, because January was not working that day. No offense to January, but I am so happy that she was off that day, because that was when I was introduced to my new barber for life, Vera. I have been going back regularly for the last year and a half and I always make sure to wait for Vera. Even if there are others also waiting ahead of me for her I still wait to have my hair cut by her. She knows exactly how I like my haircut and does an amazing job every time. We have great conversations, and I consider her not only to be my barber, but she is also now my friend. She is truly a great barber and someone you should feel comfortable trusting to cut your hair. Got a haircut and a shave. Had a great experience. I didn't wait long and the cut didn't take long, but the result was a really sharp and polished look. I would definitely go back! read more

I moved to Montclair a couple of months ago and have been shopping around haircutters and this is my favorite. More sophisticated than old school barber but not too much. Just my style. read more

Love the staff at Balonze. Highly skilled, personable, professional, and efficient. Amir did an outstanding job on my hair, today, and Vera did an exceptional job on my son's hair. Very glad they are our neighborhood barbers. read more

We just had a terrible experience. The guy literally took out the clipper and started taking off all my sons hair before we had a chance to blink. At that point there was nothing we could do because he shaved a huge chunk of his head already. Complete nightmare. I've never seen anything like this and when I kept telling him to stop he didn't listen. read more

No appointment needed and Amir gave me a great haircut. He also listened to my specific needs and delivered a great cut. Ask for either Vera or Amir. read more

Dennis listened and did a great job with my hair. Price was right, too. Only negative - no appointments. BUT, I will go back. Worth the wait. read more

I've lived in Montclair for 2 years and I'll never complain about waiting here. The hair cut is worth it and everyone is friendly.

I would to have to disagree with Cristina. Unfortunate when u go to a barbershop with a child your taking a risk As they are small. I for one have had a great experience with both myself and my 4 year old son with Jay. He gave us both skin fades which required a lot of detail he took his time and was a pleasure to have cut our hair. He even gave my son a lollipop and a high five. You may try going to a salon that caters to small children where they have toys and things to entertain them when their fussy read more

Haircuts are fantastic. Tito is one of the best barbers around, but the whole staff does a really nice job. However the wait time is excruciating. I went in at 8:29 on a Friday morning and was the first person in the chair. By 8:34 there were five more people in the place and only one barber. Two other customers strolled in shortly after and when they realized there was an hour wait declined getting haircuts. Service gets 5 stars, but I have to take a star away for the long wait time. Kudos to Balonze on having such a great following. The business plans works for them, but not for me. I can't spend 3 hours on a haircut. read more

The only reason this place is getting a star is because there are other reputable barbers working here, Jay is great. Jay if it meant just giving you my money for a haircut I would come back a million times. Dennis on the other hand is a horrible person, and a horrible barber. I went in there about six weeks ago to get a haircut. It was a Monday and it was quiet, in fact I was the only client in the room. Dennis was the only available barber so he cut my hair. Now, if he made a small mistake I wouldn't have cared. His mistake is about a two inch long bald spot in the back of my head. I am a 33-year-old man with a full head of hair, now I have a bald spot in the back of my head from this guy. Now mind you, I waited six weeks to write this...my hair has not grown back in the area he where made the mistake. He also neglected to mention he clipped off my hair. What he did do...take my money and a cash tip before telling me to have a nice day. Before you give this man your money, hold this thought...this is a business man who will flat out do this to a person and not own up to it. Do you really want that? Do not give this man your money. I will never come back because of this man. read more
