The pizza is pretty good. The reason however for the 3 star review is the manager. If there's one thing that I've learned when working in the food industry is that you never hold an entire 20-30 minute conversation with those who are trying to eat. On top of that, you don't ever criticize the way your customers eat their food. Hearing her tell customers how they should eat their food is absolutely ridiculous. So the lesson here is this, if you dine in, do not make eye contact with the manager because if you do, your food will probably get cold while entertaining her. It happened to my wife & I one time. We sat in a booth as she went on & on about how her food distributors aren't consistent with their inventory only to let our food get cold. No one cares. Let your customers eat instead of rambling on about your troubles. read more

Went for the first time the other day. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We also sat next to a local who was super nice and chatted with us. There was no tap beer. We got the Sicilian Chicago style. Without mushrooms I am allergic. I have to say it was very yummy. The pizza was big and filling. Will be back. Family owned. And very cute decorations. The best service! The best food & the best ambiance in the area. I would recommend this place to anybody in the area

My wife and I LOVE this place! The pizza at Upper Crust is amazing and stands far above several surrounding pizzerias. The crust, for one has a uniquely delicious taste and great texture, and the sauce, which can heavily impact my opinion on a pizza, exceeds expectations. Especially in our situation, which may be considered by some as grounds for tossing out this whole review. But we avoid eating cheese and often order pizzas with just sauce, and with the quality of ingredients that are used here, we still really enjoy our meals here. We have also had the pizza with cheese at Upper Crust, which we also highly recommend! We always get the Bavarian pretzel with honey mustard, which is a great appetizer to go along with your meal here. Another amazing feature about Upper Crust is that they serve Sprecher root beer and other soda flavors, which is by far the best root beer available. The customer service has always been great here with the owner occasionally walking around to check on how people are doing and enjoying their meals and experience. The decor is fun, resembling a log cabin, with a lot of vintage posters and signs to look at while you wait for your food. Make sure you bring cash though! read more

The mish-mash decor reminiscent of up-North Wisconsin dive bars filled with rusty, old car license plates and hokey fishing, hunting, sports, antiques, or dusty relics from dump-yard hubcaps to cut-rate rummage sale leftovers is both gross and painfully pathetic --as is the food quality-- that equates synonymous with the Sysco garbage ingredients. The dust is decades old. The bar sticky, the restrooms tainted... If redhot Chicago-style dogs or beef dips are offered, AVOID. Settle for cheapest cheese pizza and assured constipation. Service was ok. They were overly busy with pizza deliveries. Appeared to be a little understaffed but staff that was there kept up with things well. Pizza was very average. Not very tasty in my opinion. I've had much better pizza in many places. read more

The other day, I wrote about how one can contribute to good service by pleasant interactions with the wait staff; last night, I observed how an outstanding server can be responsible for the entire evening experience being a good one. Having driven most every Interstate and their predecessors, the US Highways in this country, I'm always impressed with the number of bars and eateries dotting the landscape of the Upper Midwestern states, particularly Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. You can find some real gems out in the middle of nowhere, and while you wonder where the population is to support these establishments away from city centers, somehow they survive and thrive, some for generations. Nestled up in the "lake area" of the border of Wisconsin and Illinois, Upper Crust Pizza and bar is parked on County Road H, halfway between Genoa City, the first town over the Wisconsin state line, and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin's playground for locals and wandering Chicagoans. With enough seating for a horde, this is a great place to take the family or the fishing expedition, opening at 11 A daily, except closed Monday and Tuesday. Starting in Chicago over 50 years ago, the business relocated to Wisconsin in 1974, and occupies a modern roadside facility, where your children can be kept occupied for hours examining the collection of memoriabilia of all ilks that decorate the walls and ceilings. Pick one item and have your little shavers count how many of that type of item they find on the ceilings. Upper Crust serves a variety of specialty thin crust pizza, some pastas, Italian beef sandwiches, and wings. The pizza is "Chicago-style" thin (yes, thin crust IS popular in Chicago!), with a crust that starts crispy around the rim and works into chewy towards the center. Red sauce is mild with a slight influence of herbs, and the toppings are fresh and ample. Sausage is hand pulled chunks of flavorful pork. The "genuine Wisconsin cheese" is very generous, and has a nice "pull" to it as your bite progresses through each (square cut) slice. But the main selling point is Heather, mom by day, server by night, with a personality and service ethic to make your experience truly enjoyable. Doting, without being overbearing, Heather is a great example of a person who understands the primary premise of the hospitality industry. Traditional pub food bar and grill about 7-8 miles south of Lake Geneva. We like it because they serve a Sicilian style pizza that is a little thicker than thin crust and served with either traditional red sauce or white garlicky sauce and I've tried both and like both kinds. Their sausage is good the 1st time and the Spinach Florentine didn't have too much spinach and Ingredients tasted freshly made. The kids meals are a good size and chicken tenders as well as the spaghetti and meatball was a huge hit with the boys. I'm not a fan of their salads and their very few to choose from. The had a large selection of beers I noticed but I don't drink so I'm not familiar with them all. Service is really friendly and courteous and I'll be back! Don't forget they are cash only but they do have an ATM available. We'll have to try the traditional thin crust pizza next time maybe. read more

We've been to Upper Crust many times over the years. Tonight, they saved the day. It's my 75th birthday and I had made reservations at Southern Stop in Genoa City. When we arrived, no one was there, completely dark, and no response to a phone call. We knew Upper Crust was close so we called and they were able to accommodate a party of 11 at short notice. We had a great time, and, as usual, the pizzas were fantastic. Thank you to Upper Crust for saving the day. read more

The worse Pizza nightmare, I've experienced. Placed an order for delivery at 6 PM, was told it would take the customary hour for delivery which actually took close to 2 hours...I called to check on the delay, I was told I never placed an order...10 minutes later I get a knock on the door, it was the order I was told that was never placed. Told the delivery person how dissatisfied I was, never the less I paid for the order. Sarcastically but true, here is the good news...the Pizza was cold, the bottom of the Pizza was uncooked and doughy, the onion rings we soft, overly greasy and chewy, The quality of the food was horrible, sub-par at best, and the customer service was worse. Wouldn't recommend them to an enemy, it would be too cruel, I picked 1 Star because they don't provide you with a 0 Star. read more

Tell me if this makes sense? It's Friday evening at 6:00 pm. They closed their dining room for the evening because the kitchen can't keep up with their delivery/take out order. So they turn people away that drive 20+ minutes and would have spent money on food and drinks, in favor of business that can wait happily at home and not spend money on drinks or waitstaff. We watched them turn hundreds of dollars away (and lose customers permanently). Don't waste your time on them, because they don't give a damn about you. read more

We had a family reunion on Powers Lake and I made a large order of pizza's and breadsticks to be delivered at 6pm. Because of the reviews on yelp, I gave this place a try and I'm so glad we choose them. Everyone raved about how good the pizza's were. We ordered 9 different large pizzas and all of them were wonderful. The mac & cheese pizza was a huge hit and so so good. The order arrived on time also. Very happy with this place. It is a tradition to go to Upper-Crust the Wednesday evening before Country Thunder for us every year. We set up our camp for the week and we are tired, over-heated and hungry so we very much look forward to our Upper-Crust visit. We love the food, staff and the atmosphere is fun. The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is that they take cash only. I mean, seriously it is 2019 who doesn't take a debit card? Banks don't charge that much for the machine (if anything at all with bigger banks) and the per transaction fee for the business would be very minimal if it generated enough transactions. The only thing in my opinion stopping them from taking cards is their lack of desire to make the change. Please, consider it! Cash is not usually in everyone's pocket but I guarantee their debit card is. Give them a try; but take cash out of your account before you go. read more

Location / Atmosphere - Always love going to a new place and the Upper Crust Pizza is one that I'll go back to. Very clean and nice size dining room. Looks like it would be big enough to support a larger crowd. Food / Beverage - Very good selection of pizza's as well as beer's.  We had the Sicilian Style Pepperoni. Very good and fresh pizza pie. Love your crust Service - Very quick and attentive service.  Can't tell you how many times that my wife and I were checked in on. This is one of the aspects of a 'family owned' restaurant that I enjoy. All prices were very reasonable.  My only suggestion would be to support credit cards. Not quite sure how a restaurant today doesn't support this method of payment. In summary - My wife and I were very impressed with the all around good service and great food and beverage.  Hope to stop back in a few moths when the weather breaks and am hoping that the 'no credit cards' issue goes away as I would love to add another star to my review.... read more

One star is not for food quality it is for several other things. #1 owner does not care about customer concerns, I brought several issues to her attention and even told her I would not be back and she did not give me any compensation. She had an excuse for everything #2 they charge for 2 toppings when you get half and half. According to the owner, it is because the cooks have to stop to put more toppings on. $17 for a half sausage half pepperoni 14" #3 it is absolutely freezing!!! Bring a sweater !! #4 they are so incredibly slow!!!! It took an hour and a half from start to finish #5 they only take cash, can you say tax fraud??? Pizza is good but so not worth the hassle. Due to poor planning on our own part, we often find ourselves hungry and without many options. My first choice restaurant was closed on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30 (total bummer!!!), so we ended up at Upper Crust by default. We were in what I commonly refer to as the "hungry trap"...we weren't starving but were hungry, however we were too far from home to pick up something to grill without becoming shaky-ready-to-go-into-hypoglycemic-coma-hungry. We've been to Upper Crust many, many years ago for pizza, but we weren't in the mood for pizza today (I knew this would bite us...this is primarily a pizza joint...ordering anything else can be risky). This review may feel rather lackluster, because it ultimately reflects my experience at Upper Crust when it comes to the food. Food wise, I really expected more from an establishment that is decorated so uniquely over-the top. It's more fun looking around at the decor than it is actually eating. Very cool interior. Alas, I went with the chicken breast sandwich. I'm a chicken girl, it's what I order when nothing else on the menu seems to interest me. I asked the waitress if it was a grilled chicken breast, and she said "yes". Hmmm...oddest "grilled" chicken to me. Light season type breading and most definitely fried in some way. Grilled? I think not. The french fries were just okay, and my husband remarked that they tasted "fishy". It reminded us of a fish type breading on the fries. Maybe they have to change the grease to get rid of the fish taste. (which you have to be thinking, you'll eat fries but you don't want your sandwich fried? Yes, that's exactly right). In fairness, my husband is insistent that I mention his Chicago Style hot dog was really good. *sigh* Overall disappointment for me. Damn you, hungry trap. read more

This place has got more knick-knacks and oddities on the wall than a Ripley's museum and gets a star just for charm. The food isn't world class, but the Italian beef sandwich is great and the pizza is definitely better than the delivery chains. Avoid the fried items at all cost, and don't expect a luscious salad. A nice little casual family-owned resturant in Pell Lake, WI, an unincorporated cottage community about 5 miles south of Lake Geneva, WI, and about 2 miles north of Genoa City, WI. Their thin crust pizza is REALLY good, and not very expensive. They also have good sandwiches - I especially like the baked meatball sandwich, and my husband loves the baked Italian beef sandwich. You can eat in their friendly, strangely decorated dining room (with tiny bar), or order to go. The to-go waiting area has pin-ball machines (always fun!), and you can buy some specialty desserts, a loaf of home-made bread, ice cream and a few other things.
