For the training, it keeps our kids engaged and develops their skills. Although we've been in leagues before, the training offered is not as consistent nor as well thought out as UYP, which is focused strictly on training. We are incredibly pleased with their training so that when we play in the seasonal leagues the kids will have a better handle on the ball and understanding of the game. The basketball games that they play at UYP seems more focused on evaluating players for growth rather than chasing trophies since there are no tangible rewards for winning. It was a change of mindset we had to undergo as we continued on. Though I'm rating this at 5 stars for their academy, there are other issues present - including communication. The experience for parents isn't as streamlined since the space is rented from Momentous and I had to proactively reach out to be included in Telegram chats (the chat app of choice here). Since most sports leagues use sportsengine for sign ups, I was hoping this academy would make use of that app since the sign ups utilizes it anyway. Weekend basketball games for the club membership are about 20-30 minutes away from the gym they practice at and requires a hefty fee to watch. read more

During yesterday's game, multiple players on this team seemed to think they were playing football instead of basketball. They repeatedly used excessive physical contact, constantly running into opposing players. On multiple layups, they even came from behind and knocked players to the floor. What was even more disappointing was that some of the parents were standing on the sidelines laughing about it. This reflects very poorly on the culture of the team. The coach appears to do little to teach proper basketball fundamentals or sportsmanship. Instead, players are allowed to play recklessly and put others at risk of injury. This kind of behavior is dangerous and can easily result in serious injuries like concussions or even broken bones. I would encourage prospective families to read the other one-star reviews before joining. This does not seem like a program that prioritizes teaching young athletes how to play basketball the right way. read more

Practiced started out okay, but right away you can tell coaches aren't that great. Kids are just playing without direction. I watched multiple scrimmages where kids ball hog and aren't even corrected to play the right way. One practice was moved to the grass because they couldn't get a court that day. Grass and sneakers do not mix. Hardly any Friday night games. I think it's been 50/50 on Friday night hoops. My son just came back from one that he finally got to play in and he just said it was chaos. First tournament they played in, the kids played one game against their own teammates. The tournament for this weekend got canceled and rescheduled. They aren't organized and keep losing their gym times. Paying 3 months in advanced was a huge mistake. Their policy is no refund no matter how unhappy you are. They offered me a free month and I refuse to take it. Why would I want another free month of a bad product. If your kid is just starting out this place might be okay for them. But if your kid is intermediate or better this isn't gonna get him or her better. The only positive is they have something Monday through Thursday. Adding to my review 8/9/25 Just got to his weekend game and a new coach just introduced herself. How terrible is that? New coaches for every game. Zero understanding of the team's or child's strength or weaknesses. Is she supposed to implement plays or a game plan 10 minutes before the game? My son started with UYP back in July 2023. Prior to playing basketball, he was playing tennis at the National level but his true passion was basketball. When we joined he was put on the white team and moved his way up to the Black Elite team. Coach Cory and all the coaches supported his development and we saw huge improvement. This program will give you the tools to play at the collegiate level, and with hard work and dedication it's a possible. A+ for social media platform and responsiveness to questions/feedback. You will def find a safe/fun environment to play basketball. Your child will learn and have fun. However, this place is advertised as a AAU level program. It is definitely not. You will not find any teams at this program at the grassroots (national) level or anywhere close. You will pay AAU premium prices for rec league level teams. SoCal elite (Irvine/tustin) is a fraction of the cost and the same/better level as UYP teams (at least for boys 10-14). For parents just entering basketball for your children, please do a little research before you commit to 3 months here. There are multiple teams/programs at the same gym (adjacent courts) that have much better teams/programs. Have your child take clinics/skills at multiple programs before committing. The program is run very well and you will find smiling faces at every turn. But, If you are a parent that wants to see your child's potential grow to its fullest in basketball, I would look elsewhere. Not good trainers and managers. Lots of hidden fee that you will notice as soon as you go through enrollment. Disappointment is what you achieve . They forced us to pay 3 months ahead (commitment is what they call it ) and although we were not happy and attend 1.5 month they did not refund us . They even ignored my email (very rude and not professional) . They keep changing their instructors and none of them are good . Coach Carlos was very responsive, and answered any questions regarding their programs in a timely manner.
