I just did the underground tour of The NYC Subway with Untapped Cities and was pleasantly surprised! Usually I trend away from for-profit tours, but this one led by John felt very worth it. A small group of us started out in front of city hall and were informed of subway history both above and below ground. John was so knowledgeable of rich New York history and was dedicated to ensuring all members of the tour were engaged.
We then made our way to the 6 train to see the STILL gorgeous city hall subway stop- easily the most beautiful subway stop in general, such a shame it isn't in use anymore.
Without giving away much more of the tours' information, the two hours were spent primarily on a train or in a station looking at details that everyone bustling to and from work pass by every day. I no longer look at commuting the same way because my mind is occupied trying to search for all of the historical minutia that I am now privy to. Thanks so much for opening my eyes John!
A train delay is almost enjoyable now I bet.. almost.
A word to the wise- don't take this when it is too cold (that rules out all of February) because the group does a lot of standing and listening, most of which is on platforms or in drafty locations. read more
