I was born and raised in New York City and I learned so many things at this tour. It was 2.5 hours, 4-5 miles, and we walked in different terrain. The most entertaining and beautiful walk in Central Park that you will ever have! This is what happens when someone really loves what he is doing - a perfect tour in a perfect place at a perfect time. We had a blast on the tour! We live in the city and learned so much from our guide, Matt (I think is his name)! The tour gives a lot of history behind the city and the park, which I really liked. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, as you walk a pretty far distance. You have plenty of time in between sites to ask the guide extra questions, which was encouraged. Wow, not a lot of reviews here, are there? If you want to know what I thought about the park itself, that'd be in my other review. This is for the Central Park Sunset Tour company specifically. We purchased this deal through...Living Social or Groupon (don't remember which) in preparation for our trip to New York. My first impression of their quality came the first day in New York, when the ever shifting winter weather patterns made it a better idea to switch the tour to the next day. In a panic, I emailed the company asking if it were alright to switch the reservation on such short notice, and received a speedy reply in the affirmative. So plus there. Our tour guide showed up on time at the designated spot (unfortunately the site's page showing a picture of the meeting spot was down, but they were detailed enough I was able to find it no problem), and the entire 2.5 hour tour was full of great information and what I can only assume was all of the major points of interest in the park. I won't go over everything we saw, but it was definitely a good tour and the guide was very knowledgeable about every bit of the park (I'm sorry, I wish I could remember his name, but it escapes me). At times it did feel like the tour moved too quickly, but considering the area we had to cover I'm not surprised or upset about the pace. While I wouldn't use the tour again (not sure why someone would), I definitely encourage anyone visiting or living in the area to check them out. read more

Great way to learn about the park history and see parts you maybe wouldn't have thought to go, a beautiful and fun experience. I highly recommend on your next trip to NYC or staycation you consider booking a tour! It's about three hours but leisurely walking and extremely knowledgeable and personable guide. Sunset tour is a great way to spend a relaxing yet energized late afternoon in New York. The tour takes you to well known park attractions as well as hidden jems of it. The guide (Matt was great!) will tell you must-know facts as well as waggish details from history, New York politics and so forth. Be prepared for intensely paced walking for solid 2 hours. Though you have breaks and stops, and there is plenty of shade and benches, so you will never feel exhausted, but rather relaxed and inspired. read more

Matthew did a great job leading a bunch of old ladies around the park and providing education on the history & architecture of the park. Very interesting and we saw all the great parts of the park on this tour! Totally recommend. There's a lot to see in a short period of time, so if you want to lounge around and take a bunch of pics, you may have to go back later when you have more time. read more

I cannot speak highly enough of this lovely tour and it's knowledgable guide! As a local, I have been on my fair share of tourist activities when hosting out of town guests. This was by far the best NYC tour I have been on to date. The guide was incredibly well organized and friendly and had a very engaging and thoughtfully planned stroll through Central Park. There were ample opportunities to rest, if desired, and I was amazed by the guide's ability to answer off the cuff questions. I was completely blown away by this tour! Much more than I ever expected. I can't recommend it enough. The amount of knowledge our guide has is amazing. Every question was answered. Even though I've lived in NYC (Manhattan) for 31 years, I found the Sunset tour as led by Matt very educational, and interesting. I went to parts of the park I'd never visited before, and I learned lots of history about the making of the park and what it was like to visit in the 19th century. Could I have read that in some book? Sure! But I wouldn't and didn't, and it's more memorable when you are actually there. My FitBit loved how much walking I did that day, so comfortable shoes are a must! Tour included a brief pitstop, which was much appreciated. I would definitely recommend this for native NY'ers and visitors. Many of the stops included park benches as well. Matt crammed alot into this tour. read more

a very very nice & informative tour. our guide, carolyn, was great. it's 2 1/2 hrs of quick uphill/downhill/steps, so wear your comfy shoes. lots of details on the creation of the park, various sections, statues, etc. A beautiful less-crowded time of day to walk the park, as well. i would do it again. read more
