Nearly a third of the students in this class were identified as requiring further evaluation by Morrissey Compton (you do the math of $4,000+ per evaluation) or unable to be served by the school. For those requiring further evaluation, Morrissey Compton's very junior psychologist provided the most general behavioral considerations to justify the evaluations and she was unwittingly used by the school administrators to deny the students' reenrollment. Independent evaluations did not support the observations of Morrissey Compton's psychologist. What was the common finding that Morrissey Compton failed to observe? The class had been left to its own devices due an inexperienced teacher with 1) no establishment of baseline rules, 2) over-reliance on short-term rewards systems long proven to be ineffective, and 3) an attendance record that effectively left the children without anyone in charge. Which is, of course, why the majority of the class ended up leaving the school.

I wish we would have waited the 6 months to meet with his developmental pediatrician rather than rush in to an assessment with Morrissey-Compton. They seem to understand their field. The problem was in their execution. See below. * A few of their "therapists" (the people who come and actually do the work with your kid but are nothing more than assistants) are decent. But the really good ones don't stay for long. THE CONS: ----------------- * None of the three owners/directors or the "therapists" have kids with special needs so sometimes they can't relate or understand what the parents are going through. *Extremely high turn-over. Lost track of how many "therapists" we used. *The 3 directors were never up front and honest. I believe in transparency at all times. They definitely do not. For instance, when I had asked them who the owner was so that I could address the new changes affecting our therapy, they would never say it was the three of them: Wajma, Rachel, and Jalene. Instead they would avoid the question. *Background and lack of education of their team were huge concerns. On several occasions, they sent out truly idiotic people. And then there was the time they sent out a "therapist" who was covered in tatoos, dressed like a bum, never showered, and had no college degree. When I eventually learned about the latter part and confronted the therapist, said she was advised by the company to avoid answering questions and to lie if necessary. *Complete lack of direction. These guys have no idea what they are doing or how to help a kid. They constantly changed the game plan on us. I'd say in one year, the plan changed 20 times! It is not supposed to change more than a couple of times given that my kid did not need that much help. I could add several more cons but I think you get the gist of what I am saying.

I leaned on my job's network and I had multiple peers singing the praises of Bright Stars for speech therapy. Due to the hurdles I have faced in the past, I was rather pessimistic at first and made some assumptions, that maybe this place would be like others with a long waitlist and would just forget about me. However, Kristen White reached out to me even though there was a waitlist and pulled some strings to assist me in getting care that I need because she saw how bad I was struggling. Her smile and calming tone gave me hope that there was a light at the end of the tunnel with getting my child the help he needs. After the evaluation, we did not have to wait too long before we are connected with Chelsea Miranda. She was an amazing start in my speech therapy journey and I thoroughly enjoyed working with her. My son, Ayden, would run to her in excitement and ready for the educational play. Although she informed me she was relatively new, I feel like her willingness to engage with my son every session and focusing on building a connection won me over with Bright Stars. Due to scheduling issues I am having at the moment, unfortunately we no longer could work with Chelsea. On the other hand, in life when one door closes another door opens, and I could not be more happy to start working with Dakota Noble. When I tell you, I was nearly emotional after our first few sessions because I felt like the insurance commercial, I am finally in good hands. The cool thing about Dakota is that she have a vast background working with autistic children and day one I could tell she was the one (therapist wise of course, don't want my girlfriend mad at me). The way Ayden runs to the center and grabs her hand and take her to the room for their session warms my heart. I am just an engineer that is still figuring out this fatherhood and child services for a special needs child out. Not only has Ayden been building a connection and growing, but she has been an outstanding mentor from a parenting perspective on figuring out how to navigate everything. She is so intelligent, patience, and kind. It is an interesting feeling to not only have your child feeling heard, understood, and seen, but a parent that is fighting to be the best parent they can be feeling the same way is unmatched. So I say all of this because I wanted to show my appreciation of the Bright Stars staff that includes the front desk that has worked with my chaotic schedule too, Candace Carson-Brunt and Carol Cabri. Kristen and Dakota kept sessions fun and engaging while working on oral motor skills, articulation, and vocabulary. Their annual testing and plans were easy to share with her school team, which kept everyone focused on the same goals. Hello Yelp! I am a sophomore at LAHS who had Doris help me with my TEDx talk, and she was…read morefantastic. Doris is a super friendly, funny person who's main goal is to help you in any she can. Throughout the process Doris did everything she could to help me, even in her off time when we weren't meeting. I remember how I would be working on my speech at the all hours of the day, and half of the time she would be on there too, commenting helpful suggestions. She spent hours looking over my speech giving me notes on how to have a clearer, stronger message. Then once the speech was perfected we would go through memorization tips, like grouping the information in small sentences in order to memorize chunks of the speech faster. Finally she guided me on how to speak with clear, big posture, a loud voice, and how to move throughout a stage. I remember if I didn't start strong enough she would act out how I looked, and make me try again, it was extremely helpful. I highly recommend Doris if you have a big presentation, or anything that involves talking in front of people.

She also provided detailed summaries of their progress to my wife and me, and was always available to answer any questions we had.
