    Taco salad

Great little diner type restaurant for local Hawaiian food. We all got kalua pork--with hash browns and eggs, loco moco style, and as a taco salad. Everything was great. Service was great. The building is a little run down, we almost missed it driving by, but glad we stopped for a Sunday brunch.

A very local, hole in the wall that's a no frills type of place. Got the breakfast sandwich and the bento plate.

Ordered the Kalua pork moco. Pro tip: ordered with the gravy on the side. Pork had great flavor. Rice moist and fluffy. Perfectly satisfied. I do not see myself ever ordering anything else. Great service, Great decor. Feels like home. Thank you for this great Kauai experience.

When you pull up, it was probably the most unassuming place we ate at all week, but Unko's serves island comfort food at its best. With a mom-and-pop style, portions, service, and ambiance, it's a place I'll return to, for sure. I had to try the Kalua Moco, a pork twist on the staple Loco Moco (beef patties.) It did not disappoint. The over-easy eggs were perfect, on top of a mountain of Kalua Pork (and rice,) drowning is a sea of brown gravy. I was feeling it and had a sweet tooth craving for some French Toast, and I'm glad I did. It made for an ideal side dish. Again, perfect, not soggy or dry, French Toast. Can I do it again next time? If you're hungry, give it a shot yourself.

Great service, hole in the wall comfort food! They make the perfect overeasy imo! The loco moco is also great! Not salty like a lot of other places, and I wonder if they use poi in the gravy coz it kinda look like it!

Thank goodness we found this place on a day it is open, bc without it we would have been bereft of a tasty moco. After two other mocos with mid patties, I decided to go Kailua moco this time, bc maybe island ground beef is just not my favorite? Whatever the case, I finally found two of the things I needed to make my Hawaii belly happy here at Unkos, Kailua pig that isn't dry, and a moco that is hard to stop eating even when you're full. I highly recommend you give it a try. My kid got the chicken katsu (hilarious to me that you can get away with ordering chicken nuggets everywhere by virtue of giving it a different name, thus making it acceptable vacation food lol) and it was a HUGE Portion- 3 rows! It was good, too, but too fatty for him to want to finish more than a row and a half. We both agreed that the Kailua moco was the dish-win, here. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but the service was great. Really glad we found this place as it was one of our favorite stops.

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. Very hearty and filling. Staff here were welcoming and friendly not to mention the atmosphere here was calm and welcoming as well. All in all an incredible place to have breakfast that will for sure fill you up paired with in incredible staff that is on it.

Given that there are not a lot of great choices in this area near the plantation cottages, we were pleased to catch this on one of the few days they are open. (Weekends). We had passed by multiple times to and fro to Poipu and beyond and with destination wedding celebrations we didn't want to venture to far. We were looking for authentic Hawaiian food and the comments on Yelp made this sound perfect. First, the large room is what I think they use for banquets and so tables are set up with a lot of six tops, which could easily fit eight and moved around for larger parties. Wish we had known sooner since many of us attending the wedding could have dined together. The place was clean and their were specials on the board as well as a good amount of options on the menu. We ordered the Hunters Special which came with FOUR eggs and three different meats: smoked pork, sausage and spam, and two scoops of rice. I especially like the sausage and the smoked pork. French toast consisted of thin slices of bread which were very flavorful. Not just a standard dipped sandwich slice. Coffee was very good which we grew to appreciate the Kauai coffee's rich flavor. Service was friendly and attentive.

Heavy hearty meal! Love the lovely aunties serving foods. Pretty nice they are open on the weekends.

We loved this local restaurant! The food was fresh and delicious. Big servings for those who like to share. The ambiance and service were top notch. I highly recommend leaving your resort/hotel and exploring real authentic island food. Way better than restaurant hotels and chain restaurants. Best part is we get to support local businesses here in Kauai!

This is a great spot to grab some local food that is both delicious and affordable. The workers are kind and treat everyone with aloha. My family ate there today 7-21-24 and I can't wait to go back. The food was awesome! Highly recommend. Not a fancy place but a place where you will feel like family.

10 minute wait for a table, 20 minutes of no service. Not even an acknowledgement. What a joke.

My wife and I specifically came to the area to sample their beers and try their food, and found the beer to good/great while the food was OK. It opens at 11 on weekdays, and we arrived soon after, so found street parking easily. We were some of the first customers, and our choice of inside seating. The building is two stories, with the upstairs being used as an arcade (classic 80's pinball machines). The large bar is the center of the downstairs, and they sell shop memorabilia as well. Tried a 4 sampler flight (no discount for flight, just sum of the 5 oz beers chosen). Their most popular is the Lilikoi, which we had just tried at a restaurant a couple days before, so we skipped that. Instead we got: Chupa lager (Mexican cerveza which was refreshing), Wheat (which was my least favorite...kinda flat/limp with little flavor), Alaka'I Stout (my favorite, creamy and almost chocolatey), and a Sour with calamansi (which my wife liked the best, I thought it tasted like a shandy). As for food, we got two entrees. My wife got the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($22): pretty much all pulled pork sandwiches are called Kalua in Hawaii, no matter how it is made. That being said, this version was OK with the fries being very good (similar to Five Guys fries, fried in peanut oil maybe). I had my favorite: Loco Moco ($22) which was well prepared, and the white rice was good. But the beef patty was mediocre (tasted like a standard preformed food service patty from frozen...it wouldn't have stood out in a burger). The one egg was cooked well and I really liked the homemade gravy. There is a 3% credit card surcharge, and Toast is the payment processor.
