Deeply Disappointing Experience: I rarely leave negative reviews, but parents deserve to know what they may be walking into. Our experience at University Pediatric Dentistry has been nothing short of condescending, dismissive, and frankly, deplorable in terms of quality of care. We originally brought my daughter here for routine cleanings. At a previous visit, we were told she needed all of her baby teeth capped because "she didn't have adult teeth underneath," along with multiple extractions. That alone raised red flags, so we went straight to the top prosthodontist at Oishei Children's Hospital for a second opinion. After new X-rays and a thorough exam, the specialist told us her oral hygiene was excellent, the teeth did not need to be capped, and with future orthodontic work we could make a clear plan for prosthetics down the road. She even sent a letter of her findings. We then took that letter to one of the top-rated orthodontists in the area, who fully agreed. Fast forward to our most recent cleaning at University Pediatric Dentistry. The moment we shared the medical findings from Oishei, the hygienist became cold and condescending. Her tone and comments were so inappropriate that my daughter -- who walked in feeling confident and proud of her progress -- ended up in tears. That alone is inexcusable. The dentist then told me he did not agree with either of the other two highly regarded specialists and insisted one tooth "really needed to come out." Fine -- if it needs to be pulled, let's pull it. But he refused to do it in the office. He told me she must go downtown to be fully sedated. I explained I have called that office twice and was told we would need to pay $250 upfront and that it cannot be billed or broken into installments. As a parent living paycheck to paycheck, that is simply not feasible. I asked if we could do it across multiple office visits or discuss alternatives, and he refused. His exact position was that full sedation was "in her best interest," yet he would not treat the child under his care unless it was paid in full, upfront. I keep asking myself: What kind of pediatric dentist claims to be acting in a child's best interest, then refuses to treat her unless the payment structure fits their rules? I was not refusing to pay -- I was asking for a reasonable, humane option. My daughter left this office crying, anxious, and biting her nails after previously feeling relieved and empowered by the doctors at Children's Hospital. No parent should have to watch that. Do not go here. There are far better, more compassionate providers in Buffalo. Your child deserves to feel safe, respected, and cared for -- not dismissed, or shamed. And parents shouldn't leave feeling intimidated. read more

I hate writing reviews but I feel like it should be known that front desk staff is awful. They are rude and impatient with children every single time we have came to the office. People are stressed and being with kids can wear down a person but this is a pediatric dentist office. This last visit I will take I responsibility for with being 11 minutes late to a 9am appointment and understand that shouldn't impact other patients who are on time. With that being said, being punished with a 75 minute wait time and still not being seen or told if a 5 year old will be seen is excessive. Next being told I guess we can see if you can be on time for a summer reschedule. I asked for the form to transfer each of our three children's records at that point and will never return to this place. read more

We went to the sedation center and it was awful! At first it went great. The receptionist was amazing! Super friendly, great with my son. Going back to the room for oral sedation went great. However I never met the doctor doing the cap placement and if I did they never told me who they were. Then all went down hill. They gave no direction as to how it went other than he was uncooperative in post op and they needed me back because he was screaming. Mind you he is 4 years old and a tiny peanut. They said the procedure went good and he needed to walk before leaving. No one stated that he had just come back, just that I needed to set him down to walk. So I did and my son got upset and pulled away almost falling over because e still had the sedative in his body. 3 people in the room start hollering to grab him I can't let go of him. I raised my voice to get them to stop. I don't need 3 people all telling me the same thing at the same time it's overwhelming. 2 left and the lady explained everything we both apologized and things were okay. Then we leave and drive 15 minutes down the road to get food. My son is still crying so I climb in the back to soothe him and ask him if I can see his mouth. He opens and there is a dime size piece of rubber glove stuck under his cap. First off what in the world! I get accidents happen but how did you not see it, not tell me and cure the cement with that there. I then call and have to drive him back there. They took no accountability for it. Said it was no big deal and then spent almost 45 minutes trying to get it out. Which they did not. Only part of it. The male in the room then tells me oh well he bit me so that's where it came from. But don't worry it's a sterile glove so there's no harm. So first you knew your glove was tampered and didn't look for the piece missing. Second a sterile object of any kind is only sterile until used. That glove is no longer sterile once it is stuck in someone mouth. Then sent us on our way and said we will call you tomorrow to see how he's doing. My goodness! What if he had chocked on it. And now he stuck with a rubbed glove in his mouth that could cause infection because it is between his tooth and the cap leaving room for infection to grow. My son is now so traumatized that he refuses to go back into the building. Something needs done. This is unacceptable. read more

Actually went here yesterday with my 2 year old son. was crowded but was seen quick only two be told. my son teeth looks good, gave him a brush with no tooth paste. Told me no scraping the teeth until he's 4 years old okay. Didn't even polish his teeth. I do more at home since my son 17 teeth came in brushing them myself. It was a over 20 interns drag out of College there working on the childrens. I also had an appointment with Aspire my self at 3pm yesterday they even told me they didn't do nothing I said yes nothing they said no polish. or even brush them for you No! They just charged me and my son insurance company and used a mirror and send us home with the tooth baggy kit. read more

We didn't quite have the best pediatric experience at Mosher and as a result ended up here after a referral. Needless to say I couldn't be happier. The staff is very friendly, the lobby although busy, was clean and bright and had games to keep the small children occupied. The receptionist was very pleasant and efficient and the wait time wasn't long at all. The dentist kept my daughter informed, she was nice and was very patient with her, everything I look for lol, and her assistant was very nice as well. We will definitely be back! read more

Creepy neighborhood. Hard to find. I went there for some oral surgery in my canine teeth, and ended up having to go back twice cause they botched it (I had chains attached to the adult teeth to pull them down. The chain broke twice). The first time was great, Dr. Votta saw me, explained the procedure, and made me feel comfortable. When I woke up from the anesthetic, the assistants were there making sure I was OK. The second time... I didn't see Dr. Votta at all, the nurse was very haggard, and they missed the vein with the IV needle five times (that was fun). When I woke up I was alone save for my wife. I suppose you could do worse than going here, but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's for regular cleanings. It is right by the anchor bar though, so hey... read more

I have taken my children to the Williamsville location for several years. Even when I moved an hour away I continued to do so cause they were awesome. However my son had some pain over a month ago and we went in for an appointment and they scheduled for us to come back in a month to have extractions. He had to wait an entire month to go back, but when I get there today they inform me they cannot do the extractions due to a blood disorder that showed up on his chart that he does not have and they were told this years ago. Why this wasn't brought up a month ago when the appointment was made is beyond me. They said they need to clear with hematology before doing anything. In the meantime he has to suffer. Let's not listen to his mother though cause after all why would I know anything about his medical past. I canceled his future appointments and I'm taking him elsewhere where they will address the pain he's in now instead of making him wait. They were absolutely ridiculous in how they handled our situation, I'm so disappointed. read more

I am responding to the first review of this dentist. First of all "creepy" neighborhood only applies on Halloween. This is on Main Street, right near the hospital district, right next door to the beautiful and bustling Holy Trinity Church, a few short blocks away from City Honors High School, Buffalo's nation-wide-top-rated school. There is however, across the street, a run-down church property.... unfortunately. But it's hardly a dangerous location. They don't have a parking lot, but it's unmetered parking along the street, and if Holy Trinity isn't busy, they don't seem to mind if you park in their lot for a little while. My second response to the other review is this: it seems highly unlikely that a full-grown man with a wife would have had his dental surgery done there. It is a dedicated pediatric facility. They take only children as patients, as far as I know. I could be wrong about that... but it certainly raises a flag on this person's review. I always found the staff and technicians and doctors there to be friendly and caring. I have been taking my son there since ...like... forever. I used to drive all the way out to Amherst for his dental care and when they finally opened an office in the city I was so glad! The city tends to be a medical desert in terms of finding decent family practitioners. University Pediatric Dentistry is conveniently located for us city-dwellers, and they were friendly and concerned about my child's dental care. They even had the honesty to recommend him to go to a specialist when he needed oral surgery, as they did not perform that type of procedure there. I saw this other review when I was looking up the phone number today so I could make my son's appointment for his cleaning. I would suggest people disregard the other review. Went once and never returned; First over-crowded, at least 15-25 adults and children in the waiting area (some of the children unsupervised) and when we were FINALLY called back, it was also over-run with staff, patients, and dental students. I literally had to stand during my daughter's x-ray, because the dental students were sitting in all available seating, which I will say one of the staff members did ask one to move so I could sit. Also, some of the staff was extremely immature, rude, and unprofessional, as I could very clearly hear them talking about a patient. Sorry, No Thanks. read more

Fast service hygienists are friendly. Clean atmosphere. Dentist is pleasant. Would recommend to families with small children to get their first dentist experience. Location not in best of neighborhoods. read more
