Me and my beautiful lady had a blast here! Fun rides, good drinks and food! Not to crowded as we went during the week so we weren't waiting long at all. Got on everything we wanted to and had time to enjoy the lazy river and sun bathe for a bit.

My fiance had never been to Volcano Bay so I made sure we stopped by on a recent trip to Orlando. The park is pretty big and if you don't reserve a cabana, then you're going to have a hard time finding a chair. We walked around in circles for almost an hour trying to find a chair for our towels. A lot of people take advantage of there being no policy on them and drop their towels in the morning and don't return to the chairs until they are getting ready to leave. It was pretty frustrating. Right now they have the taputapu which is a watch that allows you to tap into the virtual queue for the rides. The hare getting rid of that soon so I'm not sure what the new system will be like but it was nice to be able to tap in and then relax while we waited. When it was our time to go to the slides, there was probably about a 20-30 minute wait. The bigger slides like the drop slides and the aqua coaster were never under a 2 hour wait so we had to pick and choose what we did. We did the big drop slide in the volcano and that was a 4 hour wait. We used the time to hang out on the rivers and have lunch. The winding river is fast and you have to wear a life jacket in it. It can get a little rough. The lazy river is relaxing but it's hard to get a tube. You kind of just have to hope one floats by you. The lifeguards don't let you wait around the beginning where people are getting off. The food was decent for theme park food and the drinks were pretty good.

What a fun waterpark! It is well worth the cost and to spend a whole day there. Plus, you feel like you're in Hawaii without having to get on a plane if you're in Florida...lol! You have to pay separately for parking and there is a wristband you can wear for wait times. It actually is pretty helpful and can only be used for one ride at a time. There are plenty of slides, a humongous wave pool, lazy rivers, raft rides, and several variety of food options as well as beverages. We didn't have to wait long for most of the rides and there is always something to do if you don't want to take a break ;) The family locker we stored our stuff in throughout the day was $25 and was well worth it. I definitely recommend Volcano Bay for a fun day under the sun.

Love love love this park. My favorite water park by far The food for this theme park is amazing I love the fact that I can tap into a line and enjoy the wait time in a River or wave pool or just relaxing Kahola reef is my favorite restaurant. The only downer is the bus ride from the parking lot but I guess that's a play in the remote island feel I love that they have a full open bar. Their rapid River really is a rapid River There are so many interactive spots throughout the park that is nice too I do wish they had more umbrellas throughout the park especially for all the rain we get here in Florida

Super clean bathrooms & area! Everyone seemed very friendly & happy to be there. This was my first time after years of seeing it be open and i'm glad I finally came. It's a bit more pricey than any water park i've been to ($95), but definitely worth it if you get here early and spend the whole day here! Tip: Park in Universal city wall parking then take the free shuttle straight to Volcano Bay!

Had an AMAZING time with Mr. Ray today at Universal's Volcano Bay. Park was not busy got on all the rides. The park staff was friendly and security was tight, Orlando's finest on the job. It was an amazing day at the park, October is the best time to go during the week, kids are in school, lol. If you ever get a chance to go to Volcano Bay, GO. You won't be disappointed!

When you are in a theme park, the food option is pretty limited. For Universal, I heard Volcano Bay has the best food among the four parks; we will soon find out if that is true or not. For Volcano Bay, there are 4 main restaurants. The most popular is Kohola reef. They have burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and this coconut chicken curry bowl. It is surprisingly on the good side (the bar is also low). The rice has a strong coconut flavor, the curry is okay, and I like the plantain that comes with it. Another restaurant that serves Asian dish(es) is Bambu, but the quality is far behind. I ordered this chicken katsu bowl and it tastes nothing like chicken katsu. The bowl also comes with a little bit of cucumber, edamame, some greens, and seaweed salad. The sauce is not katsu sauce even. And finally, youtube bloggers really hype up this Waturi fusion ice cream, which is like a combination of different flavors, but I didn't like it at all; it's sweet and I just don't like the taste. My favorite attractions are: Krakatau, Honu of honu ika moana, Puihi raft rides.

I had an awesome time here getting wet, riding rides, and wandering around the park. It's nice that you are specifically awarded first floor parking. I got there around 7:50am. They wouldn't let anyone through security until 8am. Then, you have to stand in line and wait until 8:43am when we were able to get on a bus (no one loads before then, unless you have early entry). It's about a 10 minute ride from the parking garage to Volcano Bay entrance. Once inside, get a TapuTapu wristband and then immediately go to Krakatau Coaster and tap in. This is the best and most popular ride at the park. Later in the day this ride line will be 300+ minutes and/or they'll just shut down the queue. After that, you'll want to tap in at Ko'okiri Body Plunge. This is the 125 foot plunge in 6 seconds from the top of the volcano. It looks scary, but it isn't so bad. The ride you absolutely do not want to do ever in your life are the green and blue tubes next to the red tub atop the volcano which are named Kala & Tai Nui Serpentine Body slides. This is a nightmare. It feels like you're in a car crash. You are going so fast, and turning so hard it is hard to breathe. I literally thought I might drown and die. I was wobbly and dizzy for a few minutes after the ride. Not enjoyable at all. The 2nd best ride at the park is Puihi of Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides. Make sure you're in line for the GREEN slide. This 5 seater is super fun and you will get wet. Lots of shade standing in line The 3rd best ride is Honu of Honu ika Moana. You want the BLUE slide. Very similar to the ride above where you're in a big tube with multiple people. Also, lots of shade standing in line. The 4th best ride is the Ohno of the Ohyah and Ohno Drop slides. You want the PURPLE slide with the 6 foot drop. I loved getting a random tube and floating around in the Kopiko Wai Winding River. Locker rental is $20. It does get crowded quickly. Lastly, I had an excellent lunch at Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club. Make sure you order the $14.99 Mango BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich Platter.

Went here for Volcano Bay at night. This is a new offering that will be on the certain dates below. The timing is 7pm-10pm & you can enter the park as early as 4pm. April 12th and 26th May 3rd, 10th, and 17th All ages are welcomed and it's a bit more than the regular Volcano bay tickets $99 plus tax per person. This price includes, entry, souvenir cup with free Coca Cola freestyle refills, live DJ, games, and Dreamworks characters meet & greet. There is a specialty drink menu that comes with a souvenir cup for $18. We also tried the specialty swamp snack, Shrektzel (Shrek shaped salted pretzel + green cheese). This was a nice snack while at the park. Parking is like the rest of the Universal, enter the parking garage and be sure to go into the very first parking garage that's color coded red for Volcano Bay, this area leads to the Volcano Bay shuttle that's closer walking distance vs. walking far from the other two garages where Universal/Island of adventure folks are going. We had a blast! I'm not sure if I'll make it back before it ends in May but I do hope they roll out more dates in the Summer.

    Nighttime park overview

Highly recommend the special nighttime event, Volcano Bay Nights. Earlier this month the tapu tapu virtual line wait wrist watch was sadly discontinued, resulting in having to spend more time waiting in physical queues. But attending the Nights event resulted in no line for any slide. Everything was walk on. Furthermore they changed the music to more modern party music, scooby and the gang were dancing on the beach, and the park provided complimentary and unlimited popcorn, soda, icee, and churros. We had a blast enjoying the tropical theming at night and best of all, no sunscreen required!

    Laura G.

We had a great time exploring this waterpark. It was busy but the line queue using wristband was nice ability to enjoy other slides while the big slide krakaoa has a long wait. Best ride by the way. All staff were kind and happy. Big difference than rest of universal parks. Prices for drinks of course are high. Just wanted to get their drink without souvenir cup and they didn't have different price.

    Jozsi N.

We had a great time here, but unfortunately the place is so crowded. It seems like they oversell tickets for each day. Even with the taputapu we couldn't get on all the slides and you are also waiting sometimes hours before you can even get in line for some slides. They dont have any details explaining the difference between two similar slides like a rating of more intense or calm so we found a few times that we got on the less extreme slide, but you only know this once your at the top. The lazy river and rapid river were a lot of fun. They also dont have enough chairs, but thankfully we didnt need one really.

We visited Volcano Bay this past Sunday with a group of six, and overall had a really fun day! Luckily, the park wasn't too crowded, so we were able to find seats near the volcano without much trouble, which was a huge plus. The rides were fun, not super thrilling in my opinion except for the Krakatau Aqua Coaster and the Ko'okiri Body Plunge, which were definitely the standouts! The downside of the day was definitely the food and drinks. Like in most aprks, the food was overpriced and pretty disappointing, the chicken tenders were mostly breading with barely any chicken, the burger buns were stale and of course the burger itself tasted like plain boiled ground beef. The drinks were ridiculously expensive too, and the cocktails barely had any alcohol, just a lot of sugary mixers. Also, some bartenders were asking for IDs inside the park, which didn't make much sense considering it's a waterpark and people usually don't carry their wallets around after passing the main entrance check. It would make more sense to assign a wristband or TapuTapu marking for guests 21+. That being said, we would definitely go again! Just probably with adjusted expectations about dining & drinking and maybe planning to eat elsewhere before or after the visit.

Ask the Community - Universal's Volcano Bay

Are they still implementing the tapu tapu system, or did that end?

    Do they supply towels?

No. You'll need to either bring towels or buy/rent them.

Are locker rentals free? If not, how much are they?

No they are not free there are 3 types of mini $8, Regular $12 and family $15 per day. I do know that if you rent private seating you get a free locker.

I wanna know why we can't wear jean shorts on rafts?

Maybe because Jean shorts have buttons or metals that might puncture the rafts and break them?

Would it be super crowed in july?

It will definitely be crowded, get there before open to allow time for bus ride over (unless staying at hotel within walking distance). For best results, stay at Cabana Bay and get early entry. The virtual queue system works well even if it is busy.

How's the weather typically in late January?

Florida weather has a big range in January, But it's usually 70. However Volcano Bay is closed in January.

What is the crowd like the last week of February? Is it more for older children? I have a 4 year old and was wondering if it's suitable for him

Are the Cabana rentals worth it? What about Premium seating?

We recently a Cabana and LOVED it and it was definitely worth it. We will save up for one any time we can!

Can you bring a cooler into the park?

coolers can't be hard-sided (this includes styrofoam), and they can't be any larger than 8.5″ wide x 6″ tall x 6″

What kind of food is allowed inside?

Theme Park food, along with restaurants that have full bars.

Do you need to take your own towel or there's towels there?

Recommend bring own towels, otherwise $5 rental for towel park.

Is it worth it to visit/lounge/lazy river, and dine only? I personally don't care about the rides, but my friends will.

Yes! Theres a beach next to the volcano with plenty of lounge chairs and the lazy rivers are so relaxing. I hate rides but my kids got on the rides with our family friends and i just hungout. Its very relaxing. The lines for food is long l. But if… Read more

Is there seating at the restaurants in Volcano Bay?

There's a good mix of covered and open seating for the main restaurants, as well as the kiosks/stands.

Do all of the rides at the water park require you to wait in a virtual line or do some allow you wait in a line for the ride? Would a express pass be worth the $? If other rides don't require the virtual line we could ride those while waiting.

All of the rides are virtual line assisted. So nothing really will require you to wait in a actual line unless the wait time is really high then sometimes there will be a 5-10 min line after your Virtual line wait.… Read more

It was easy to enter using the My Disney Experience app, as it already had the tickets under my account, and it was also a quick bus ride from Disney Springs. Towels are complimentary, and lockers have a small fee. Changing rooms are located near the front of the park, and are reasonably ok considering how many people go through them. The floor is paved but pretty hot to walk on, so I still recommend wearing waterproof footwear. Waterproof phone holders are probably the #1 most useful item to bring here, other than sunscreen. There was a surprisingly large amount of people here on a Monday; pretty much all the chairs were taken around the wave pool, and there were scarce empty spots in the humongous body of water with equally gigantic waves. They're not waves for babies or beginners at all - they knock you down and drag you far, even where you think you're far enough, which is pretty rad. While a lot of people were crawling around the park, the wait times weren't too bad. The lazy river, Castaway Creek, was chill. There were people around us all the time, but enough space to still feel comfortable. I was amazed at how long the river went on for, and at how much varied scenery they detailed through the course. I also loved and hated the surprise waterfall you're forced to go under at the base of the mountain. I wasn't able to get through as many rides as I'd hope because of a brewing storm that eventually rained everyone out of the park. There are attractions for people of all thrill levels, though they seem more family-friendly than catered to daredevils. The rides are easy to get on, too - you just walk up, grab an available tube, and wait in line. There are also convenient refreshments littered at all ends of the roundabout park. The theming around the park is fantastic, including the iconic Miss Tilly atop Mount Mayday. Lagoona Gator both welcomes and waves you off at the entrance of the park.

There are also smaller stands with snacks, pizza, and ICEE stations. Now let's talk about the drinks. There is just something about a frozen daiquiri when you're by the water. Highly recommend getting the drink package and trying a few... or all of them if you can handle it. I loved how many different areas there were to explore. Seeing dolphins swimming so close to the beach was actually kind of magical. They also have a monkey island which I was really excited about. It was closed when we got there, but I could still see them from a distance and I loved that. The aviary was really cool too. Tons of birds, but also tons of people. They recommend going first thing when the birds are most active, which we did, but so did everyone else. We got there about 45 minutes after opening and the birds already seemed a little over it. Honestly, I don't blame them. The Grand Reef was such a cool experience. I didn't really know what to expect, and even though it's man made, it still feels really immersive. Some of those rays are huge and have zero fear. They will swim right into you. My guy had never experienced anything like that and he loved it. I also liked that there were shallow areas and deeper sections if you wanted more of a snorkeling feel. The only downside for us was the Wind Away River. There are spots that get deep really fast, and that day they were apparently out of floaties because people were hoarding them and claiming areas. Staff even acknowledged it, which was frustrating because nothing was being done about it. It made parts of the river harder to enjoy than they should have been. Other than that, everything else was great and it made for such a fun day. Also the bar swings were a highlight. Loved those.

Very close to the Disney parks and plenty of room for families. You can even do groceries and cook and if you want to. This is my go to resort when in the area. I highly recommend it.

The room smelled awful, the window didn't open, and even after switching rooms the smell remained. The hotel is old, uncomfortable, and poorly maintained. Overall, a very disappointing stay. Our check-in experience at this hotel was a complete fiasco. We arrived in the evening only to discover that our reservation had been cancelled because we were two hours late. This happened despite the fact that we had called and sent messages in advance to confirm our arrival and specifically asked them not to cancel the booking. Nevertheless, the reservation was cancelled, and we were forced to make a new one after already waiting in line. At the front desk, the staff insisted it was our fault for not notifying them, even though we had clearly done so. Unfortunately, the real disappointment began when we entered the room. The smell was extremely unpleasant, and since the window did not open, it was impossible to ventilate the space. We requested a different room, and while the second room was slightly better, it still had an unpleasant odor. The pool area was also difficult to tolerate due to a very strong chlorine smell. Overall, the hotel feels very outdated and poorly maintained, making it hard to relax. Even the bar was closed throughout our stay. Overall, a very disappointing experience

Each suite had a room with two double beds and private bathroom. Plus a room with a king bed and a master bathroom that included tub with jets, shower, private bathroom and walk in closet. Additionally, the suites had large living room and kitchen plus a closet with a washer and dryer. They also had a screened in balcony, large enough for 2-3 ppl to sit comfortably. Staff/service: The staff at both check in, and at the markets and restaurant were very kind and helpful. Water park and pools: Clean, staffed and fun. There's a lazy river, water slides and many pools. Overall experience was good with no complaints.

This is my second time staying at the Grove resort in Orlando. We had stayed here previously three…read moreyears ago, which prompted us to book the resort again. A lot has changed the second time around. The pros: 1. Close to Orlando theme parks 2. Decent waterpark The cons: 1. Outdated and dirty property (garbage smell and dirty hallways, and elevators) 2. Dirty rooms and broken furniture 3. Poorly equipped rooms- we only had 2 towels and 2 facecloths for a family of 4 that were in the master bath. Second bathroom did not have towels or facecloths (we had to call the front desk for items) 4. The Kitchen was not fully stocked (no pans for oven, no sharp knives for cutting food, and no cutting board) 5. No housekeeping (we were there for 7 nights and not once did they show up). Did not have broom in the room or cleaning supplies. I had to empty all garbages in room the full stay and place bag in hallway. Garbage was only picked up once a day in hallway. There were always garbage bags in the hallway. 6. You are provided with a "starter kit" of supplies (one sponge for dish washing, one small liquid dishwashing soap, one dishwasher pack, one Tide for washing machine. One paper towel, one pack of toilet paper for each bathroom and 1 box of Kleenex for each bathroom). Once supply is depleted, you are responsible for purchasing additional items. 7. The pool area is overcrowded. If you do not get in line at 9:30 AM (pool area opens at 10 AM) you will not get a seat. I found people go to the pool area early (9:30 AM) drop off their stuff for the day and leave area. That means if you don't get there early to scoff up a spot yourself you are left standing. However, you have the option on spending extra money to 2 rent chairs $$ ($69) or a Cabana $$$ ($250) for the day. I had mentioned this to management and they said there is no way of monitoring this. That if I wanted a guarantee area that I would need to reserve/rent chairs or a cabana. 8. Expensive resort fees, daily. They charge resort fees on the day of arrival and departure. 9. Issue encountered with a booked transportation reservation (through resorts concierge) back to resort (from Epcot). Was left in an extremely dangerous situation by the resorts contracted bus driver. Me and my two kids were left stranded at Epcot. He "did not have the time" to take me and my kids back to the Grove (again, this transportation was pre-booked). He asked us to get off the bus at Epcot. He had to go to another resort (me and my two children were the only guests returning to the Grove). Bus driver said he ordered and paid for an Uber for me and my kids to go back to the Grove (all lies, as he did not order us alternate transportation). Tried calling the resort at 10 PM phone rang, selected front desk and was on hold for over 15 minutes. Was not able to get in touch with front desk at resort (no answer), Finally hung up due to frustration. I had to pay out of pocket for an Uber back to the resort.
