I get pedicures on the regular. My schedule is all over the place and since my friend and I usually try to go together, its often difficult to find two appointments at the same time. Unfortunately, our schedules didn't align this week and I was on my own. I had other obligations Tuesday but was able to carve out a little time. I really wanted to get my toes done before a trip this weekend. Randomly I googled and called salons in my area and beyond. Only one, Universal, was able to accommodate my pocket of time. I literally knew nothing about them as I didn't even check Yelp reviews, so I was going in blindly. It was easy to find and near my house, housed in the same shopping center as the Giant in Mt Joy. Prices were in line with other places. A regular pedicure (one of three pedicure options they offered) was $28. Every service gives a $1 discount if paying cash. I was treated by an older lady named Noon who definitely is a free spirit. She has a great personality and is hilarious. I enjoyed chatting with her as much as I liked my pedicure. It was like hanging out with an old friend, even though we just met. One thing you should know about Noon is she has magic hands - like for reals! Her foot massage was DA BEST EVER!!! I joked with her that I would pay her to do just that - to which she replied jokingly "you can't afford me"! Aside from that amazing foot rub (which really was all that) she did a fantastic job on my feet. My polish is perfect, soles and heels smooth and refreshed. I'll definitely be back! One thing I really liked about this salon is the owner Ben is there at the first station. He answers the phone and makes all the appointments. Aside from Noon and Ben another employee was there. They acted like one big happy family who really worked together well as team and were happy in their jobs They also all spoke English, to customers and to each other, so there was no wondering if they were talking smack about your feet behind your back. If I had to say something negative it would be that the overall feel of the salon is very generic and not aesthetically pleasing to look at. Not that it's a huge deal, but the decor could be amped up a notch to give it some personality and a spa feeling to provide a more relaxing experience. It is a rather large retail space, with 11 nail stations and 10 pedicure bowls. Noon provided me with a loyalty card, take it to every appt to earn a free gift. Ask for one if they don't offer. Also while they "may" accept walk-ins, appts are highly recommended and given priority. The phone rang the entire time I was there, so they seem to have plenty of loyal clientele. Nail service: 1/10 I got a Gel manicure on a Saturday, by Monday nails on both my right and left hands were chipped. I called in on Tuesday morning and was told to come back in and they would fix them. It is now Thursday, the GEL polish has peeled off of 8/10 nails and is lifting on the last 2. I don't know what brand of polish they are using but it does not work. Customer service: 8/10 Going in on Tuesday I expected them to patch up my nails. When I got there the person looked at my nails and decided he was going to soak all of the original polish off and completely redo all 10 of my nails. I was told to pick any color I want, deciding between 2 he chose one that was a different brand than the original. While looking at my nails he tried blaming it on my being right handed but after I told him it chipped on both my hands he had no choose but to fix them. While doing my nails he put an additional top coat on to keep it from chipping and didn't charge me for any of it. read more

Been going to here for years. Ben and his team are simply the best!!! There really is no other nail salon like it. The service is impeccable and consistent. I truly feel like I can go to anyone and get what I want. Disclaimer, I primarily get pedicures. That being said I like that they have different pedicure options. Most places only offer the basic pedicure. I recommend the deluxe I think it is with the paraffin dip. Makes your feet like new!!!! read more

My regular salon was busy so we decided to try out Universal and i'm glad we did! I needed my nails done for a wedding i was in and they did not disappoint. Called ahead and got an appt, but they got us in right away. I got the gel polish nails and to my surprise it comes with paraffin treatment. Very nice shop with plenty of techs! My friend and I visit Universal Nail Studio regularly (about every four weeks) for our pedicures. I was hesitant at first, but very happy with my results. I would say we've been there probably 12 times or more now, and it's great! Ben is awesome, and he tries his best to fit people in. But I would definitely recommend making an appt! Ben and the staff are all very good at their job(s). I appreciate that they serve drinks while getting pedicures. And I think very highly of the staff, as they talk to you as the customer, but when they talk to each other, it's in English! read more

This is honestly the worst nail place i've ever been to. The guy who did my nails put all of them on crooked so he had to spend over an hour reshaping. None of my nails were proportionate and he had to keep asking me what to do like it was his first day. Extremely rude at one point told me to stop talking. They leave your pedicure streaky and not coated if you don't choose gel. Upcharged me 20 dollars for his mistakes. Never go here. read more

This is a busy place, so I recommend making an appointment before you come in. Do not be annoyed if they are too busy to take a walk in; appointment clients ALWAYS will been done first. It's only fair. Ben did my nails, who in the past has done very good work. But this time he was too rushed and did an extremely uncomfortable and mishapen set of acrylics. Most of them lifted and I had to have them fixed elsewhere. Polish was all over my cuticles too. Since they don't have a receptionist you have to deal with Ben answering the phone all the way through your appointment if he is working on you. It really slows things down, and I feel it is extremely unprofessional. Their prices are very cheap but I feel you're getting what you pay for. I've been coming to Universal since they opened. I love Been and his staff. He is always very accommodating to those who are loyal customers and who are punctuatal. It's very hard to keep things moving when people can't seem to show up for their appointments on time without at least calling to let him know they're running late. I've seen this happen many many times and the customers get mad if he gives their spot away or the techs have to rush to get them done on time but in my opinion that's what you get if you're late. I used to get gel pink/white done on my nails but decided to give my nails a break for a while but I still do pedis. Usually KimKim does them for me and he's great. He's social and we always find something to chat about. All of his staff are very friendly and they all does English to each other when customers are present so nobody feels awkward. I highly recommend the spa pedi and the massage chairs are awesome. I also like that you are offered a choice of beverage while you get a pedicure, including wine! Tip:. I have been coming here for a few months. Service is excellent and you can't beat the prices! My only regret is getting a gel manicure here. It only lasted 5 days and then chipped off on multiple fingers. I had flakes in my hair, on my clothes, and all around my desk at work. Their normal manicure usually lasts at least 7-8 days and I expected more because of what I paid. With that being said, I still recommend universal, just not for gel!! read more
