I called a few months ago to inquire about replacing the fire proof door in my apartment that was old, rusty and in really bad shape. Within a week they sent a representative to measure the door and provide me with a quote. After receiving a quote, I needed to use the bathroom. After asking the sales associate I was sent (without an escort) downstairs to the rear of the establishment to the employee bathroom. Which was not only unpleasant but disgusting. This bathroom was uncomfortable, dangerous and unfortunately did not have a sink. After using this horrible bathroom, I asked the same attendant "Why was i sent to that bathroom?". I am still waiting for the response. Everyone was quite pleasant, the doors look nice, they fit fine, they weren't cheap, but we needed metal doors. It hasn't been a very wet spring and summer, but I'm seeing rust through the paint already. No response from the company, just platitudes, no one shows up to look at the problem. read more

It's a shame this company has gone downhill. I used them before and decided to change 2 more doors valued at approximately 2,000 each, installed. Before, they Weatherstripped and painted the door. This time, they said they don't paint the door, nor do they Weatherstripping the door unless I pay an additional $150 each. I had complaints from my tenants of having extreme drafts entering the home and I personally saw this. Scheduling with them was a nightmare and they did not make enough of an effort to come out and rectify the situation. I had to fly to New York, Weatherstripping, paint, and fixed the adjustments to 2 locks because the door they installed did not close properly and the lock couldn't be engaged. The tenant had to slam the door as hard as possible, disturbing the rest of the building, and still the door would push open with the wind at times. I made an effort to speak to manager Christian and estimator/rep Ashley and they did not return any funds for me to finish the job I paid for them to do. I do not recommend working with them due to the fact that their installers are no good and the company will not help customers rectify the situation. Take your money elsewhere. read more

What a wonderful surprise! In the wacky world of renovations, the crème of the crop really floats to the top! My doors are BEAUTIFUL ! I Never thought I would love the clean, elegant lines of my 2 basement fire doors. They are an esthetic game changer especially since one in in the front of my house and the other in a rental apartment. I never expected to have the totally professional and pleasant experience I had, from Kenisha, who handled my account, the gentleman that came to spec the job, to the 2 men that did the install. Terrible service. They installed a new front door and frame for my building. But they screwed up the job and when we called them the day after they installed it to say the door wasn't closing properly, they charged us to fix it! Also, I should note, they overcharged us and it took us 6 months before they finally understood their own accounting error and reimbursed us. read more

It was an absolute pleasure working with Universal Fireproof Doors! Christian designed our front door for us, patiently reworking designs until it was perfect. He is very creative and his recommendations added valuable space to a small entry way. We also purchased a bulkhead door and added glass to a steel door at the last minute but Lorena was very professional and patient and made all the installations flow seamlessly. The installer and his crew were first class, timely and neat, they removed the old doors and thoroughly cleaned up after the installation. I have to give Universal Fireproof Doors 5 stars. First of all I called and Nostasta was so professional. They came to my house and gave me a free quote as promised. The door was a special cut and so it had to be made and they needed a deposit. I expressed that I was uncomfortable giving out my credit card number over the phone and she said "no problem". Next the appointment was set up for 9am and the workers arrived promptly on time. They started working tirelessly and didn't break until the job was done. Finally when the door was complete it looked wonderful. Additionally it had a door knob and lock. I would definitly recommend this company to anyone looking for professionalism and hard work. read more

I do not write reviews often but when a company goes above and beyond or goes way below, I am compelled to share my experience with the world so that you might benefit from my experience, whether good or bad. DO NOT USE Universal Fireproof Door if you want satisfaction. I wouldn't give them any stars if that were an option. Here's my experience with Universal Fireproof Door. I paid $1000 for a steel door and installation to replace an existing entry door. On the morning (9:00am) of the day of installation they sent two young men to install the door. These two "installers" claimed they could not speak English (my Spanish speaking neighbor overheard the "installers" conversation and she told me they were insulting me and talking about getting the job done quick so they could "get out of here". By 4:00pm they had only removed the old door and seemed clueless about how to install the new door. Since I could not reach them by phone, I had to get on my bike and ride to UFD's office to express my concern about getting the door properly installed before nightfall. They then sent over three other guys to install the door. When ordering the door I had told them that I wanted the steel frame anchored into the cement blocks with large screws/bolts. They said they would prepare the doorjamb to be anchored to cement. The "custom" door that they delivered had no proper anchors so they just drilled holes through the doorjamb and used these huge screws (more like flat head lag bolts) which then made it impossible to properly install the door jamb strips to keep the weather out due to the large head on the screws. They were not able to finish the job in a single day and had to return twice. Once, to finish the cement at the top of the doorjamb (they ran out of cement on day 1 and left a 2" gap at the top of the jamb). And the second time to install the threshold/saddle. They installed the threshold with DRYWALL SCREWS and use WOOD SLIVERS as "anchors" instead of proper plastic or lead anchors in the cement for the screws. Over the course of time the drywall screws rusted and the center screw let loose (due to rust and the wood "anchors"). This caused the saddle/threshold to bow upward which made it increasingly difficult to close the door. Eventually the door would not close at all from the inside and could only be forced shut from the outside so we had to remove the saddle to be able to use the door. When I went to UFD to explain the issue and to see if they would replace the saddle they refused stating that the door is out of warranty. They did not care about the fact that the saddle was improperly installed using inadequate materials which led to the premature failure of the saddle. ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS: The door is not plumb. They installed my high security Multi-Lock lock very poorly. It's not level and it was not in the correct position so they had to use spacers that they made to make the lock work. Also, rain leaks in when it rains due to their terrible cement work and installation so the steel is starting to rust. And, the handleset/deadbolt handles that came with the door are very loose and low quality and feel as though they will fall off at any moment. The handleset was also poorly installed. This door is used infrequently, if it was used daily I'm sure the handleset would have needed to be replace long ago. If you value your hard earned money and you do not want to be completely frustrated and dissatisfied, DO NOT USE Universal Fireproof Door. read more
