Our guests LOVED the food provided by the on site catering team and they handled allergy restrictions super well (our entire wedding was gluten free beyond bread baskets provided on tables). The team worked really well with our various vendors and the day went incredibly smoothly. Highly recommend this venue for a scenic Chicago wedding!

This was a formal affair and the address threw me off as I couldn't picture where this venue would be located. As I started driving down a gravel road to avoid the long line to get into the lot, I was even more skeptical as I felt like I was driving down a southern backroad with all the dust that was kicking up. After tipping down the grey gravel road, I entered the venue. This space is huge and truly amazing, very open and inviting. I imagine the décor is designed based on the event., but for this event, it was well laid out with *gasp* plenty of seating to allow you to eat, drink and be merry. The theme of this year's gala was Green Eggs and Glam, so it was Dr. Seuss whimsical. All the decorations suggested you were in one of the books. There were even the Things running around...Thing 3 was there, so guessing Things 1 and 2 were on vacation. The Grinch also stopped by and paid us a visit and the Cat in the Hat and his Missus were there as well. There were quite a few people at the event, but it never felt crowed. There was a full-size bar as well as a full-size stage. The Geraghty went all out for this event and I have to say that they hit the mark. From the food stations, standing bars, the very comfortable seating areas with sofas and tables...amazing arrangements. Don't let the location or gravel road put you off. This is an excellent venue to host an event.

Owner Norman Bolden renovated and reconstructed this building into *the* event space for South Siders and anybody seeking a lovely, centrally located and well-appointed space. Its appeal lies in its loft-style charm -- a split-level, open floor plan boasting gleaming mahogany floors and exposed brick that you can pretty much decorate any way you want for your event. After attending almost a dozen birthday parties, holiday parties, wedding receptions and fraternity and sorority events at Room 43, I knew that this was the only place where I wanted to hold my dad's 80th birthday party. It was the right decision. Rental rates are reasonable for the space that you get (there are two rooms to choose from) and a variety of chairs and tables are included for both the upstairs and downstairs. You supply your own linens, food, DJ and decorations. The onsite staff is also incredibly helpful. The facilities manager Richard is really great -- flexible and accommodating for all of the last-minute changes that come with party planning. The 80+ guests at my dad's party loved the venue. It's easily accessible from North or South from the Oakwood exit on Lake Shore Drive, and also the 43rd Street exit on the Dan Ryan. There is plenty of street parking as well. Lucky for the owner that he was on-site and actually stayed awhile for my dad's party, because several guests were so impressed they inquired about having their own events there. One thing that some have complained about: You can't bring your own liquor, and unless you pay for a tab, your guests are subject to a cash bar. I don't honestly find this unusual, and I paid a tab that allowed guests to enjoy open bar for about 3 hours. In addition to being a party space, Room 43 is also home to the Hyde Park Jazz Society, and you can catch all of their shows there on Sunday evenings. Anyone who reads me, by now, knows that I am big on supporting local businesses, and for the quality, service and location, I absolutely recommend Room 43. Room 43 is an emerging destination spot and represents the best of the "new" Kenwood-Oakland/Bronzeville community. I would not hesitate to give them my business again!

If you have a small-to-mid-sized event to host then I strongly encourage you to have it here. We came for a friend's birthday party and had an absolute blast. The main (ground floor) room offered exactly what was needed for the gathering: ample space to mingle, a central bar, a plethora of places to sit, a clean bathroom, amazing food, and an even more amazing staff. (I also heard the upstairs is really cool but didn't get a look for myself) Our group was not large, and not particularly rowdy*, but the space and the level of service made it feel much more intimate. From the moment we walked in the door we felt warmly welcomed by everyone. The bartender made quick work of all drink orders and the serving of the food was perfectly timed. Speaking of the food: wow. It was DELICIOUS! I had three full plates myself. And I took some leftovers home. Incredible edibles! But another word about the staff, because they really made this whole experience... not only were they friendly but they were Johnny On The Spot with cleaning everything up. No plate was left for more than a minute without being scooped up and no drink was left spilled either. Additionally, towards the end of the night, *someone had had just a bit too much fun but the staff was totally cool and completely helpful. They are top notch. As you can tell, I can go on and on.
