Truly a joke in and out... worked with Tony. Lives up to the saleman stereotype perfectly. Sold me on through colored tile - which it was not as I realized it on the scrapes left. I go back and of course he says that he did not say that... Floor tile installers were OK... not the most attention to detail guys. Quite a few mistakes. Grout broke/came out after a couple months. They were sent back and used the wrong color grout (I made sure when I called I read the color to Tony)...Tile always chipped -big chip - after dropping a common cereal bowl on it -wish it was through color as promised!!! ----- Countertop job was a joke and quality is a joke. Installers came out to measure and said it would only take a couple hours max -was supposed to be a quick job -they spent all day measuring and cutting. Left a bunch of scrapes out in the yard...ripped up my cabinets and they didnt want to fix it - I made sure they did...My toilet wasnt completely installed yet and I told them not to use it... Someone used it so I had to clean out someones nasty urine...AND finally, I got quartz and it chipped within a week and nothing banged it even hard-just typical washing dishes... wish i never went there - only used them becuase of the financing---Just save your money if you're thinking of financing and use a contractor with there own business and employees... this place gets a BIG F read more

No matter how you hear about this company, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN away from them. They promise you the world and deliver none of it. We started working with them for kitchen cabinets, countertops and new floors in early March. We wanted to have the work done early in April and was told NO PROBLEM, which is what they said to everything....well that didnt happen and finally got an install date for the cabinets of May 3rd!!!!!! Now we were told everything would take 7-10 days once they started.....without going into all of the details here is what we ended with....kitchen demo was April 29, cabinets installed May 13th, finished on May 24.....sort of, they still have to come back and fix some things which I have had to call them every couple of days. But since they have our money they are in no hurry to get it completed......WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER......... read more

Two weeks ago, I went there, met a salesman, Tony, picked out some carpet that was installed by Phillipi and was so satisfied that had Tony give me advice about redoing by stairs. He gave me good advice about the material I should use(wood laminate) and it was just installed today by Nick, the installer, who did a superb job. I do not recommend this place to anyone. As my sister said they saw my mom coming, she is 80 years old and demands quality. She thought she ordered Italian tile but instead a truck load of made in China was delivered. Every bundle of them was marked with a red crayon indicating the defects/imperfections on them, I know this because I was the installer, her son! The carpet she ordered is perfection, however a certain individual didn't measure correctly and we ended up with extra tile and short on carpet! one room in the house has another type of carpet, she was told they do not make the carpet anymore? she was charged an extra installation fee when the new carpet arrived. What about the extra tile that was accidentally ordered, well the owner stated no returns after two weeks. Since the work was done on my time off we now have tile that no one wants. The only quality people I feel are associated with this company were the carpet installers! They did an excellent job.I guess this is enough. read more

I wish I had read Billy's review prior to going with Universal Carpet and Flooring. We ended up going with them and set up our laminate wood flooring and tiles for the bathroom. We were thinking of doing the kitchen and counter tops as well, but we stopped because we didn't want to spend too much money all at once. Everything was good to go and we were told the floors would be done the following Sunday night. I received a call maybe the Tuesday prior to the install and the scheduling was fully booked and that they could not finish. I'm thinking why the hell would they schedule with a start and end time without knowing what their scheduling was like. Obviously I called and complained because it was different from what we discussed. We got our laminate in and it looks great. We were told that the tile would have to be moved to the following week, but then we were also told that they were going to be there on Monday. They told us this after they already scheduled it. Why the hell would they schedule something that the client did not agree to? I called and told them to move it to the following weekend. They still show up on the Monday that I had rescheduled. This place is ridiculous. I was thinking of giving them two stars, because the laminate floors do look nice. Unfortunately, the customer service, sales staff, and scheduling department all suck. My husband and I had been shopping around town all day for a Vinyl flooring similar to some we used when we redid a bedroom 2 years ago.  My husband said he just spoke with a really nice guy named Moses from Universal Carpet who said he had some options. My husband, myself, and our friend who had come along to help called him back from the car. I introduced myself and gave the same little intro I'd been using in every store we had been in. "Hi! We are looking for click-in vinyl flooring. Do you carry any and do you have any in stock? We are looking to purchase and get started to today." He told me they had lots but that the would have to order whichever product we chose. I said, "Oh ok, thank you so much anyway, but we are planning to bring our product home and get started today." He interrupted me and said, "No, you need to come in and see our selections and vinyl is a very new floor product and needs to be special ordered." (newer that the kind we picked up and installed in our bedroom 2 years ago?!). I then repeated, "Oh, no-I'm sorry we are looking to purchase and bring it home toda-" He then said, "EXCUSE ME-PLEASE DON'T INTERRUPT ME." Everyone in the car gasped. He continued on even when I said no thank you and that I was hanging up the phone now. I don't know if it was because I was a woman or if he was just having a horrible personal day, but I have never been treated that way by a salesman. I can see why this place could get bad reviews. It is a place that sales carpet for goodness sake, and after all they are a company that has to turn a profit. My salesman Mory was very knowledgeable, came to my home, measured, gave me suggestions for carpet vs laminate vs hardwood. Though he said he would do whatever he wanted, priced out all three. He suggested the cheapest option, Carpet because of kids!!. Granted the profit is the highest for carpet, we went that route. He came with a per square foot price. we did a lot of research with other companies and contractors, we had an idea of what things like this should cost. After going through big companies, small companies, we ended up going with this company for about 7% premium for the no interest financing and they had the carpet we wanted. Deal was signed on a Friday, the following Friday the installers came right on time, 9am.. worked really hard and were done by 6. They did a great Job.... read more

I have walked into this place twice. Both times the sales people very shortly into discussing the products in the showroom would rip into HomeDepot. I didn't ask or bring up anything about HomeDepot but they would. The first time saying HomeDepot sells damaged remnants discounted carpet. Basically the role ends saying a bunch of nasty stuff about them. The second time arguing that HomeDepot is shady and will change the pricing of installation not keeping to the price agreed upon in the store a lot more then originally quote for installing hardwood floors or laminates. It is like they use ripping into HomeDepot as a sales tactic. However I find it very tacky as well I verified what they said about HomeDepot was wrong several times over again. Still trying to be open minded on our second visit I asked them for a price quote to install laminate floors was told 10K or more as Lumber Liquidators quoted me 8K or less for the exact same price laminate, possibly the same laminate company and model. Even and another shop near Lumber Liquidators quoted me 5K for a laminate the same price to install it. I personally would not recommend this place, even to my worst enemy. I honestly can't believe people like this are still in business, especially after reading many of the other negative reviews. read more

This was the best carpet experience I have ever had! I have dealt with Expo Design Center and Home Depot a few times and never have had the whole experience go so smoothly. We walked in and Moses was very helpful. I negotiated financing with him and got a fantastic deal. The installers, Javier and Alex were very friendly, extremely helpful and carpeted 4 rooms, hallway, and stairs in 1 day with cleanup and vacuuming! They also eliminated all the squeaks I had from the subfloor because they are nice guys. I can't say enough about the professional job they did on the installation. So, I went with Universal for a kitchen installation because of their 3 year no interest financing option and because they sent out a professional informed salesperson. My grandma used to have a saying "beggars can't be choosers". I have to admit that this saying ran through my head more than a few times after I signed my contract with Universal. Its pretty clear that Universal handles a huge volume of work and their service team is somewhat at the mercy of the subcontractors they hire. Yes, there were scheduling problems. Yes, the job took longer and did not start on the date that I was promised. Yes, there were snags in the process with my granite counters. That having been said, their cabinet maker/installer Medhi was excellent as are the cabinets he makes at his shop. Their general construction/installation/plumbing team James Technic & Son were just incredible - their work was flawless. Universal's job coordinator, Ray, showed up and went to bat for us every time something needed to be taken care of or fixed. I'm sure if one had $15-20 grand to drop on a kitchen outright and could go direct with a high-end contractor, you would get a much smoother experience than we had with Universal (and I'd rec someone like James Technic for that) - but at the end of the day, I've got a very nice kitchen from Universal. When we decided to replace the carpet in the bedrooms we checked out several places, including Home Depot and Lowes. After comparing services and prices we found that going with Home Depot or Lowes wouldn't give us the level of service and prices we wanted. I had an ad from a mailer that I had kept for a year that was for Universal Carpet and Flooring. I kept it because they had an option to have 60 months no interest payments. Nikki came out to measure our rooms and gave us the exact measurement, plus she brought samples of carpets for us to see. It was at this point we decided to do the comparison with Lowe's and Home Depot. When you look at their carpet you have to remember to add on the charges for removal, pad, etc., and they end up being higher than what Universal charges with their all-in-one price. After realizing this is the case we went to the Universal showroom because we wanted to see more samples. We found exactly the carpet and pad we wanted with Nikki's help, and ended up paying less than we would have at the big box stores. Nikki knows her carpet! We ended up going with the two year, no interest contract, planning to pay it off in a year. The installers were fantastic, very professional. The installation went quickly and smoothly. They brought the carpet up to the tile perfectly. They even put tack strips in the closets where there had never been any! And there was very little carpet left over, which I really appreciated. I hate paying for carpet that doesn't get used. The installer told me Universal is really good about not selling you more carpet than you need. All in all, I'm very happy with our carpet and I love how the whole experience went so smoothly. I would definitely recommend Universal to anyone. read more

2 of my friends both recommended this place when I was asking friends for referrals on who they used for new flooring and new kitchen cabinets and granite. I was actually reluctant to use them because they have some bad reviews but both friends insisted they were great. I took a leap of faith and used them to install new wood floors throughout my home and they replaced my old chipped and outdated oak cabinets with beautiful new white shaker cabinets and white quartz countertops. Well I could not be more happy with the entire experience. First off the sales staff was extremely courteous and professional. They really informed me about all the different options and the pros and cons associates with each. We picked products that were in my budget and I am extremely picky on quality! The installers where also extreme kind and clean. The installation went flawlessly and I could not be happier. The kitchen is stunning and Ive gotten plenty of compliments. My husband and I did quite a bit of shopping around for flooring following a major slab leak requiring new flooring in our entire downstairs (about 1500 sf). We settled on Universal Carpet and Flooring for several reasons. First, the honesty, knowledge and integrity of our salesman, Reza. Almost three months prior to actual purchasing and installation, we tentatively chose both laminate flooring and carpeting. He held our price until we got our insurance check (no deposit required). He then came to measure and brought some similar samples with him; good thing because the colors I had originally chosen did not work with our design theme. After he measured and the contracts were signed, he spent additional time with us to help us with ideas of what we could do with our very 70s, small galley kitchen. I give them four stars, only because we had to have the laminate installers return for not completing some of the molding (yet, they did come back in a few days and finish it, no questions asked). read more

As previously reported, we had our entire home redone with carpet and wood flooring, about a 7 day project in total. My wife and I were extremely pleased with the quality of the installation, and gave the crew a good tip, but had some initial issues with timing and management follow-up. However, through a representative for the Company, Management addressed all our concerns and we are now satisfied with all aspects of the project. If i could put zero stars then i would. We had new laminate flooring and granite countertops installed downstairs. This was about 600 sqft of space and it took them about 2 weeks to complete. No joke. Their customer service was AWEFUL. We would call and try and find out when the installers would be back and they would not show up or come very late. The amount of time wasted while waiting for them was absurd. Their customer service reps could care less if you are happy with the service you receive or if you like the final product. All they care about is collecting money and moving on to the next job. We paid extra to have the floor leveled. Fast forward to today and the baseboards do not meet the floor in numerous places (this is after we called them out to re-fix the original job). I finally gave up and gave them their money as i no longer wanted them in my house. We will need to have the flooring re-done at some point. This is a shame as i really do like the actual product that i bought, it is just poor execution. On the bright side, the granite install (while it took a long time) come out well. This little project was supposed to be a trial run for two other houses that will need similar upgrades in the future. Needless to say, we will never use them again. After this lovely little learning experience with Universal, we decided to learn from our mistakes and recently completed our upstairs flooring through Home Depot and they were amazing. read more

We replaced Mexican pavers with hardwood floors , re-did kitchen counter, bathroom vanities. Our salesman was Fred Hali at the Irvine store. He was professional, courteous and went out of his way to make sure the entire process went smoothly. We had a plumbing problem shortly after the installation (caused by someone else) and Fred made sure the repairs were done quickly and efficiently. The flooring installer was a real artist, his name is Mauricio. I cant' say enough nice things about all the people I met there. Now we are in the process of replacing old French doors and picture windows and I have experienced the same kind of service with Asoudeh. Universal Flooring will definitely be the go-to-store for all my jobs. I am also using them for re-upholstering some chairs. Great service all around. read more

Look no further! Universal Carpet and Flooring in IRVINE is the best! I went to 7, yes 7, different carpet stores. We drove all over Orange County. I heard so many sales pitches, lies and promises with best prices etc. I went to the Universal Carpet stores in Orange and Huntington Beach. Also vistited a few of the LA Carpet stores. I think they all saw two women come through the door and thought they we would literally buy their pitches. Went to Home Depot and Lowes as well. They have all kinds of hidden fees and you need to buy the pads too. Irvine Universal was our last stop. Luckily, we walked in and were greeted by Reza. He was professional, not pushy and well....finally a sales guy not full of b.s.! Reza came out to measure in a couple of days. He gave us a price on the same exact carpet another Universal store quoted at half the price! Also, gave me a coupon discount. Reza also measured the carpet and the measurements were much more on point than others. Evertything was installed and looked fantastic in about 7 days. We liked him so much that we also had our countertops redone with granite. I had the other guy also measure the countertops. Reza measured an honest 10 square feet less than the other guy. Who knew there are still honest sales people out there? I was so impressed I referred my friend to Reza and he had his carpet done and countertops as well. If you are shopping around. Look no further call them and ask for Reza! He goes above and beyond. You will get the best prices in Orange County at this store! Ask for Reza! we changed all the rooms to hard wood floor and kitchen to tile a few weeks ago, so far it looks very nice. John was very nice and easy to work with, he measured our house twice since we changed our plan replace the entire floor instead of just a few rooms. he uses laser measuring tape, he measured every small space, so the sqft number is more accurate comparing to another company. We found a very nice engineered wood floor and ceramic tile, they gave us a good price. both tile contractors and wood contractors did a great job, all the edges and corners are well done. they removed all the old wood floor and carpets, cleaned the sub floor very well. they communicate well with me, eg, the wood contractors told me that base boards only have primer on it, are not painted in the first few days, which gave us time to paint them before they need them. there are a few boxes of wood left over, they refunded me the material and labor fee on it, even they charged a restock fee, it is still nice to have credit back. I'll go back to them when we are ready to remodel bathrooms and kitchen. read more

So your looking for some carpet eh? (Im not talking about that kind of carpet) I would suggest looking else where. The reasons for my one star rating is because of the shady way this place deals. When we remodeled our home we came here because at the time this place had the best deal on the carpet we wanted. We told the sales person that we wanted to still shop around and she said that would be fine but we should put a deposit down so that we can put the carpet on hold at the warehouse. She said she would not cash the check and that it would only be cashed when we came back to complete the purchase. Fast forward a few weeks later, we found someone else who offered us a better price and we called universal carpet to see if they could match, which they couldn't. We told them to go ahead and tear the check and we would be going with the other vendor. Then our wonderful sales person dropped the bomb on us and said that we would be charged a $3000.00 restocking fee because since we put a deposit it was a binding contract! Um your the one that suggested that we just put it on hold lady and now you want to charge me a restocking fee that is half the price of my total order?! Yeah, go fuck yourself. After numerous phone calls to the sales manager which led nowhere we came up with a solution to our situation. We offered to pay for the restocking fee under one condition, the condition being that they fire our wonderful salesperson. Well I guess they ended up keeping her because I have not paid them a single cent. read more

We just completed a kitchen remodel and three years ago had wood and carpet installed through Universal Flooring and Carpeting in Irvine. You need not look any further as I have no reservations recommending them. Each time we worked with Tony. He is very professional, caring, organized, a great communicator, and more than all of this, "Tony walked in our shoes" every step of the way and that's what made things move smoothly. As anyone who reads this we have all been "through challenging times" with others, but never with Universal. Tony is the reason we returned and Universal is very fortunate to have him as part of the team. I would be remiss if i wouldn't be just as complimentary toward Haas, the designer along with all of the craftsmen, Norberto, the cabinet installer, Pedro, Mario, the back splash installer, and Ross and Mazda, the plumbers. Kitchen remodel! After reading the mixed reviews, we proceeded with caution. Yes, the pricing was strange in the showroom. We couldn't get a price per product when looking around. Rather, the salesperson asked us what we liked, then came to our house to measure and give us a quote. We ordered quartz counters and a mosaic tile backsplash for our kitchen. The price was significantly lower than the two other quotes we got for just quartz counters. The work took longer than expected (but I've heard this is common with remodels). The scheduling people would call one day before to "confirm" installation, even though they had never given us a schedule of when they would show up. The counters should have been demo and install on same day, but demo didn't start until evening, so install was next day. They damaged the wall, so the backsplash crew spent their first "day" fixing the wall (showed up at 6pm), then came back next day to install. Ran out of product, so had to come back another day. I have a flexible schedule, so all of this time and changing of plans worked for me. Now that they are all done, I love my kitchen and am very happy with the price I paid. If you need prompt and quick work, I wouldn't use them. If you are flexible and willing to wait a bit and deal with delays, you can get good product and good pricing. I would use them again, knowing I can save as much money as I did. read more

Seriously, run and find another place. It isn't worth it. Of course they are wonderful when selling it to you....then all hell breaks loose. Was told the wood was in then it wasn't. Called to find out about installation and they said they called and spoke with me...had it all set up...not! We never received "that" phone call. When they finally showed up things ran smoothly until it came time for the stairs. By the way this was supposed to take 3 days...we are now on day 8 and things are not finished. The workers, who were great, showed up on Saturday stating that the bullnose wasn't in and that they would be back on Monday. On Sunday I received a phone call stating that the bullnose still wasn't in and they would return on Tuesday. Tuesday came and went without anyone showing up or a phone call. Wednesday a nice man shows up to finish someone else's work.....WTF?! Not happy with the stairs, called to complain and it hasn't been resolved. Hoping we can work this mess out. Super sad that I spent so much money only to have gotten screwed! read more

We are in the process of preparing our home to be sold and wanted to install travertine floors and granite countertops in two of our bathrooms. After price-comparing a number of other companies, we went with Universal Carpet in Irvine based mostly on the service we received from our sales representative, Rick. Rick was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and polite. He patiently explained all of our options with us and helped us make the right decision for materials, colors, etc. Installation went off without a hitch and took less time than was estimated. After everything was installed, the installation crews did a thorough job cleaning up such that you would never know they were even there, except of course for the beautiful new flooring and countertops. Rick followed up with us several times throughout the entire process to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, and it was. Based on our experience, I can recommend Universal Carpet, and especially Rick, without hesitation. I would definitely use them again in the future. read more

This morning, I went over to visit their location. We are getting ready to install hardwood throughout the entire home. I read their Sunday ad and thought, i'd give them a try and see what they had. They seemed to have alot of variations on Hardwood Flooring. But after being their over 30 minutes, not one person even acknowledged our presence and could not even take 30 seconds to even say anything. While one woman was sitting at her desk doing nothing. For me personally, customers that walk into a retail establishment, should always be greeted or looked at as potential buyers/customers. We walked out feeling as if we weren't important enough to even being given the courtesy of "i'll be with you shortly" or even a Goodmorning. I doubt they will be getting my business and need to understand, never ignore your customer. You never know just how much money the want to spend and networking is key for future business. read more

If you are looking for quality, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE to go. Beware when they try and tell you they can "FIX IT ALL WITH WARANTEES!" Time and money wasted. Lots of verbal promises and generic contracts written. Poor installation and very bad communication between sales team and install team. Result: You end up project managing your own job! Salesman made claims to superior flooring underlayment, then installed something completely different! Big noticeable difference in suffering with an inferior underlayment. our floors creak like heck! Company would not exchange for product that was explained to us when selling us the contract. You have to leave your house for a few days which turns into several days because they screwed up on the install and we had to wrestle with them to come and fix it! MAJOR inconvenience for a family of 4. Baseboards were a complete mess of a job, corners didn't match up and they globbed caulking all over expecting no one would noticed. carpet team came in the next day to set all the carpet... broke nearly all the new baseboards they just installed! After job was near complete, they realize the baseboard were not even the size that we ordered. Lots of other flooring vendors that know what they are doing. I do not recommend Universal Carpet and Flooring to anyone. They will be out of business in the next few years due to hundreds of dissatisfied customers like myself sharing their defeated experiences. read more

We had a wonderful experience with our sales professional, Ted, and with Universal. We purchased a rug and granite for our kitchen. He worked according to our requested schedule, was fair on price, and was always available to us. He came to our home a few times to share granite samples and offer advice, met us at the granite yard, and checked in upon installation. Demo and install were the same day. It did take longer than we thought (5 hours vs. the 10 hours it really took), but the installers were professional, cleaned up as they went and after they left, and we have had no issues since install. They did put a small nick in our wall upon installation of granite in one location of our kitchen, but overall, we are pleased beyond measure. We recommend this company and Ted...he was friendly, not aggressive or pushy, and he followed through on what he quoted with price, installation, delivery, etc. read more
