Have taken my car here a few times since my last review! Best service ever. There was a very cold day over the winter that caused some ice to build up in my rims. That in turn caused my car to shudder pretty violently. I didn't know what it was so I brought it to them in a panic with no appointment. They looked at it for me, assured me everything was fine, and didn't even charge me. So nice of them. And it was fine. When I drove it home from work there was no issue. Needed new front brakes a few weeks ago - they did it quickly and at a very reasonable/affordable cost. I am always happy with this shop so I wanted to add another review, as I've brought it in a few times since my original visit. I will continue to go here exclusively. Even just for my oil changes. Comparable in cost to those drive thru places but the service is next level. read more

Tom will take the time and explain the situation with your car until you understand the situation you are in. Next, he'll explain your options and help you understand the best path forward. He replaced an entire engine for me. It was costly but by far the best financial path forward. The work was done on time and on budget. Plus he has followed up with free check ins to make sure his work met his standards. I'll drive 30 minutes to Universal for my car repairs. read more

Update: I have since investigated the sway bar links on my own. In my opinion, they *are* far more rusted than I would hope 6 month (now 1 year) old parts would be. It is *also* true that I am unable to get any play by attempting to move the links by hand (the original OEM rear sway bar links can be rotated about their long axis this way, though there is and should be no vertical play). However, if I use vice grips, I can rotate the new links fairly easily. Also, I agree with Universal that there is no way the links could have been 100% seized, because either the suspension would not travel, or the link bolts would have snapped off. So, my conclusion is that, while there is a little reason to be suspicious of these parts, Bernardi Toyota's claim that a $550 repair was needed on 6 month old parts seems to be a blatant lie. My apologies to Universal for faulting them without doing this investigation first. read more

I came to Universal once again today to have some work done for problems noticed back a few months. They didn't try to force me to do the work at that time like some others might, but instead reassured me I could wait a few months before getting it done and be alright, which was great for me because I ended up needing a break job done after that and it would have been tough to do both around the same time. Found a car I wanted through a search engine and called to come see it. They set me up for that day and let me take it on a test drive. They worked with me and we agreed on a price. When I showed up to pick it up, they had it ready and even helped me put the tags on, paper work was all pre-filled out and I spent about 10 minutes before the keys were in my hand. When I went to register the car I was missing a document, I called Andrey and he found it and paid to overnight it to me, even apologized for the inconvenience. These guys know quality cars, and are amazing to deal with. I'm extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality pre owned car with great customer service. I have used Universal Auto Repair for routine car maintenance since it was taken over by the current owners. The owners are easy to work with, and their prices are extremely reasonable. In addition, they are very honest. As an example, I brought my car in believing it needed both front/rear brakes. The checked the brakes for free and told me that 30% of the pads remained. They could have told me it needed to be replaced but they addressed only the needed issue at considerable savings to me. Just an example of how easy they are to work with. I called today on Saturday because I had a dead battery, was told to bring it over, they have the battery in stock. They took the car immediately when I arrived and had me back out in under 30 minutes from the time I arrived. And as always, pricing very reasonable. read more

My wife and I purchased a 2008 Audi Q7 from Universal in April 2018. We live in South Dakota, so purchased the car without inspecting it in person and had it shipped to Denver where we picked it up. The car had an issue with the air suspension when we received it, the adaptive suspension was not working and there was a blinking light on the dash. We had to drive it home 6 hours in that condition unfortunately. It turns out that the compressor and relay were both shot and needed to be replaced ($1700!). We had a local mechanic in South Dakota do the repairs. Universal claimed that the suspension worked prior to shipping the car and, to be honest, I believe them. I think it was just an unfortunate circumstance, and that the compressor failed in transit (possibly due to self-adjusting during the loading/unloading process or trying to self-level on the truck). Upon notifying them of the issue, Universal Auto sent us a check for the repair amount. Andrey and the staff there are honest people who go out of their way to take care of their customers. I'm very happy we selected them for our car purchase and would recommend them to anyone considering purchasing a vehicle. To have issues sometimes happens (especially when dealing with a 10 year old vehicle), and what separates the good dealers from everyone else is the willingness to stand by their products and take care their customers. This is the best experience I've had working with a dealership. These guys are awesome! read more

These guys are great! I had to take my aging Volvo wagon there for two unrelated breakdowns that happened within 4 weeks of each other. The 1st diagnosis and repair was accurate and reasonably priced (we googled online). The 2nd time it broke down they were able to get it running again but were not able to fully diagnose the reason why. Because of that, they didn't charge me. Both times I had my car back really quickly. These guys know their stuff, are fair (more than fair actually), friendly, just the total package. I had been using a dealer for the last 8 years because I didn't think small shops existed, glad I found these guys. read more

This place is awesome. I was referred a couple years ago by my motorcycle instructor. I had nothing but the best and most kind service I could ask for. I normally do my own car repairs but for more intense situations I look elsewhere for help. I had my timing belt and water pump replaced and the service was well done and priced fair. After a hiccup with the time spent on the repair Nick even offered to install a muffler I mentioned to him in passing for free. These guys are honest and their prices are as good as it gets. They have kept my '03 Camry with 220k miles purring like a kitten for years now. When I have had exhaust problems, quotes from other places nearby rang up for $1300 to do the repair work, saying they needed to replace the whole exhaust assembly. Universal Auto quoted me ~$300 for a much simpler repair that solved the problem and has lasted for years. They said I am better off doing a repair on the existing exhaust because Toyota's catalytic converters are some of the best - that an aftermarket assembly may not even last as long as their patch (which, years later, I tend to believe!). Geoff and Nick have treated me with respect and honesty over the years, and I cannot recommend them enough for saving me hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars since I began coming to them. In the short time I have lived in Ashland I have made this place my go to for my 2012 Honda Pilot. I initially went for the brake deal they were offering, it was half the price of the dealership where I was taking my car consistently. I have now come to find that these guys are honest in everything that they do in terms of what should be done and what can wait. I never feel forced into doing unnecessary work and they are always reasonably priced. In some cases even going the extra mile for no charge. During a routine battery replacement I had noticed the next day that 3 of the 4 bolts on the air filter housing were sheared off by the previous service appointment at Bernardi Honda in Natick. I brought this to their attention the next day to merely check and see if it was a problem they encountered during the battery replacement and they recalled noticing it. Despite not being a game changer they apologized unreservedly for simply not notifying me and just fixed it for me for no charge immediately on the spot. I have already recommended this business to others. One friend has already taken advantage of their services with his Honda minivan and have complimented me on my review of them and were so pleased with the work that they would make the 40 minute drive to have all their work done here again. I'm almost tempted to bring my 2008 BMW 528i here but I have a very reliable BMW specialist already. This place has officially made me put my dealership in the rear view. read more

Had my brakes serviced here after my wife had a positive experience. The work they did on the brakes seems fine. Perhaps a bit pricey but overall satisfied with the work. The 1 star review is because of what happened when I tried to pick the car up after service. Someone did something during the brake job to completely drain my battery. Engine barely turned over and then nothing. Relatively new battery and hadn't had any prior issues with it. I went back inside to tell them what happened and ask for a jump. A mechanic came out to my car with a remote (battery-powered) jump starter. After repeated attempts the engine failed to turn over. It was pretty clear that the battery in the jump starter wasn't charged. The mechanic went back in the shop looking for another option to jump the car. He came back with the same unit and told me that the mechanic that worked on the car said to keep trying and the starter in my car was bad. By this point I lost my patience and told the mechanic that was nonsense. When they didn't offer another jumping alternative (other than the dead remote unit) I called my wife and we jumped the car ourselves. Of course the car started fine with a proper jump. There is nothing wrong with the starter. Perhaps the worst of it is that no one ever apologized. Terrible customer service. read more
