BUYERS BEWARE!! Dishonest sales men. Make sure you have some one with you who KNOWS cars and everything about buying a car because they are going to screw you over every which way if not. Yes, that's what a car salesman does but these guys aren't even smooth about it. I bought a car from here - they were supposed to fix the latch of the door. Took them three tries and never got it right. The third time didn't even look like any one tried to fix it. When I picked up the car it had just under 1/4 tank of gas and trash from Casey's shoved under the passenger seat that wasn't there when we test drove it. After dealing with them, the least I expected was there not to be trash in the car. I would put zero stars if I could. I scheduled to come in and test drive a truck 2 days prior to coming in. The day of the test drive, I drive 30 minutes to Blue Springs. Apparently, someone else called that morning to check out the truck as well. As I arrive they are selling the truck to that customer as I'm arriving. I purchased my 2017 Chevy Silverado LTZ less than 6 months ago and have put under 6000 miles on and it already needs a new transmission. When purchasing a vehicle from universal it is stated over and over that they check their vehicles thoroughly replace and fix any issues prior to selling any vehicle on the lot, that was not my experience. Within 2 weeks of purchase brakes needed changed universal changed them for free, a couple weeks later truck tailgate mechanism rusted and broke they replaced that for free as well. Now! Truck was driving a little rough took it in to get checked and serviced. Mechanic stated transmission fluids where full but extremely dirty, transmission pan had LOTs of medal shavings and the transmission will need replaced. I do not recommend this place, the vehicle I purchased has a lot of rust and the ac doesn't work, I bought the car in winter (3 months from this review) so no way to try the ac on a 25 degrees temperature. Called the dealer and they said warranty doesn't cover rust and the ac repair will come out of my pocket if they can not get the car manufacturer to cover their warranty. Btw, must of the rust was painted black and I couldn't see it at the time of the purchase. Updating pictures soon... read more

STAY AWAY! My mom and I experienced unethical business practices when dealing with the Odessa, MO location (BILL-Sales Manager) the price on cars.com advertised for $16,717 and when I arrived they stated that price was if I had a trade in AND allowed them to scrap the Mazuma pre-approval to allow them to RE-REN the deal in "Cuddle finance system" and get the credit for the deal. NO Integrity at all. Upon heading for the door Bill agreed that they could use the pre-approval and would still allow my mother to purchase the vehicle for the advertised price AFTER I kept saying that didn't sound legal at all. Days later after Bill kept promising he was taking care of us, he called me yelling and saying he had just spoke to Mazuma and that we can't buy a warranty from Mazuma if we want to purchase the vehicle and stated it would cost us another $500 to finance using Mazuma. After his rant I advised Bill that Mazuma was on the telephone and had heard the threatening and coercive discussion and Bill hung up in embarrassment and no one contact us from the dealer. I waled into the Blue Springs dealer today and spoke to Jason (VP) who was very apologetic and stated we would be taken care of. We later received a call from the owner, Scott Duncan. To my suprise Scott Duncan completely dismissed the unethical dealership experience and tried making excuses for the same behaviors that had led to my rights as a consumer being violated. They advertise a vehicle at one price on line to get you in the door and then tell you the car is thousands more, without ever having listed that on the advertisement. I have texts discussions from Bill, Mazuma recording, and mobile records as evidentiary documentation of the events that occurred to myself and my mother. BUYERS BEWARE read more

Doing business with these predators has been a NIGHTMARE. When I purchased the vehicle, I went to go get it titled, AND THERE WAS A LIEN ON IT!!!. So I wasted an entire Friday trying to get it all sorted out. Randy the manager faxed over a lien release FOR AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT LIEN which of course was no help whatsoever. Finally later that day they got it sorted out, but it was too late to get anything done. Should have never happened in the first place. Nobody wanted to take responsibility for it, just say "hey this isn't our fault". I've never seen so much shirking in my life. Eventually the vehicle got titled and plates were issued, then I head to Colorado. Turns out there was no battery hold down bracket holding the battery in place, so the cable that grounds the battery got ripped and torn while driving which ended up destroying the alternator. The $1,200 extended warranty I purchased didn't cover a dime of it (I was told if I had any problems all I'd need to do is take it to a shop, show them the warranty certificate and everything would be handled, I was never told what the warranty did and did not cover by either my sales person or the gentleman handling the transaction and never given a chance to purchase more comprehensive coverage). Universal did step up and say they'd cover the repair, that was Tuesday the 23rd. The vehicle sat all day Wednesday the 24th at the dealer I had it towed to (Molle Toyota) and didn't even make it into Universal's shop until that evening. I was told it would be done by noon today (Thurs the 25th) and it's now 12:51 and nothing yet. At this rate I would have been better off to have paid the $1,100 they wanted to go ahead and fix it. Update: It's now 2:53 pm... still nothing. Update 2: Called about 28 min ago and was fed more excuses (the previous repair shop disassembled it too much) by the service manger Chuck and told I'd received a call back shortly. 28 min later, no call back. Update 3: Finally have the vehicle back and it drives, but the VSC lights and check engine lights are all lit up, the torn battery cable wasn't replaced (nor was the drained battery), just soldered back together (real bush league stuff), and part of the undercarriage protection wasn't even re-installed, just shrink wrapped and put in the cargo area. (see pictures attached) Update 4: I've reset the ECU twice and replaced the gas cap (both common fixes to the VSC light problems). Called them today and still waiting on a response. Update 5: Turns out the catalytic converters and exhaust manifolds are bad and are what's throwing the check engine light codes. These things don't just go bad all of a sudden, and the vehicle was presented to me as if it was in good shape with a recent Mo Vehicle Inspection (part of which is to check these systems). So I believe Universal cleared previous CEL codes to make the vehicle look like it was in better shape that it was. Going to cost $3K+ to fix it. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PREDATORS!!! read more

I have went in here multiple times with the same problem over and over again and they drive it for 5 minutes and claim nothing is wrong with it and then when they finally get into service, all of a sudden my car is in unsafe condition after MONTHS of brining it in with no help. They put the CHEAPEST parts on cars that are bound to crap out just so they can make some money. The SHITTIEST company to ever buy a car from. My overall experience was very positive and I LOVE my new car. I first began communicating with Makenzie. She was extremely helpful and is a good person to have on the front lines when people are searching online and are gathering preliminary information. Through my communication with her, I had set up a test drive the following day, as well as asked her if it would be possible to take the car home for the weekend since my husband could not be present at the dealership. I showed up the following day, found the car on the lot and peeked in the windows to find pop cans in the console. When I went in to speak to Turner, the manager said that he had belongings in there and to "picture it cleaned up" as he had been driving it as a demo. I took it for a short ride and everything went well. When it came to negotiating, there really was none. I was basically going to pay the advertised price or I wasn't going to get the vehicle. I appreciated the efforts to find financing that worked for my budget. Overall, the customer service experience was spot on, and I appreciated them sending a courier to get the signed paperwork so I didn't have to make a special trip. Turner and Makenzie were terrific! Staff were attentive but not pushy and I left feeling that I had received a good value, as I had done extensive research on Tellurides and knew what I could get for my money. The certified warranty appealed to me, as well. Once the negotiating and financing process was complete, I took the vehicle with me for a more extended test drive over the weekend. I was running tight on time getting my daughter to work but by the time I got back to my side of town, I only had 20 miles to empty. I had to stop to put gas in it just to get home. Since I had made an appointment and specifically mentioned wanting to take the car over the weekend, I would have expected it to be cleaned up and have gas in it. Upon returning the vehicle after the test drive, everything went well to wrap things up. I inquired if the vehicle would be fueled up at time of signing and the response was "if you give us a 5-star review!" I scheduled to pick up the vehicle on Friday and low and behold it had not been filled up!!! Thank you, Turner for making that right, but it should have been taken care of already. In addition, the advertised mileage on the vehicle was just over 32,000 miles, but when I went to test drive, it had an additional 2,000 miles on it. While this wasn't a deal breaker, one thing you have to keep in mind is when it's due for an oil change. I have under 1,000 miles left until an oil change is due. I think when someone purchases a new car, the last 2 things they should have to do is fill up the tank and have to get the oil changed right away. So again, overall, a good experience, but some definite misses in the details. read more

From the start, the engine leaked oil, which the dealership refused to cover and the service contract Alpha doesn't cover. The service contract doesn't cover much of anything btw. I have spent thousands on engine leaks, bad sensors, etc. Every aspect of this sale was regrettable and highly recommend that nobody make the same mistake I did. I just purchased a car from Universal Auto Plaza and had a terrible experience. The sales associate was extremely pushy, lacked knowledge, was all over the place, gave misleading and false information, and wasted a bunch of our time. In the end, the manager tried to make up for it by giving us some free oil changes and a full tank of gas but the experience was uncomfortable, unprofessional, and frustrating. We got a good deal and they did help in the end, but I'd never recommend anyone go there unless you have all day and tons of extra patience. Also, be knowledgable when you go because they will try to take advantage of you. Check all of the paperwork for errors and ask them ahead of time what they need from you. My wife and I were shopping around for Explorers and had finally found the one that was perfect for us through the CARFAX site. Found out that it was Universal Auto Plaza that had the Explorer. So I immediately contacted the internet sales rep online and scheduled an appointment for the following day to see this SPECIFIC Explorer. We arrived 15 minutes early, only to find out that they had sold it to someone else just an hour and a half before the scheduled appointment. Who does that?? And then the same sales rep, that sold it out from under me, offered me another used Explorer that he had to jump start! Really??? I'll never do business with them again. I'm just glad I didn't end up buying something there and regretting it like some of these reviewers did. Please, avoid this place, for your sake. read more

New Service manager was to get with me regarding the issues & price for repairs needed on the 3rd day vehicle still sitting there to be repaired. I also have a car in need of repairs, gave them the scan codes, several days later still no response as to the cost and when I can get it repaired. We purchased the car on Friday March 2nd from Universal Auto Plaza in Blue Springs, MO. Clean car fax, inspection, and warranty on car. On March 12th, only 10 days later, my daughter was driving down the highway in rush hour traffic when the engine suddenly caught fire. She was able to get the car to the off ramp and jump out with the help of a good samaritan before the car was fully engulfed in flames. This easily could have been a deadly accident. We had the car towed back to Universal Auto Plaza. It was obviously not fixable as it was a hunk of burnt plastic and metal. The car was under warrenty, but the dealership would not work with us and give us another car that was comparable to the one we purchased. In the end, they have thousands of dollars from me and I have a daughter with smoke inhalition and PTSD who doesn't ever want to drive again. I strongly suggest going elsewhere. read more

I left and the salesperson chases me down in the parking lot as I drove away. He says the sales manager wants to talk to me about the truck. I should have drove away but went back. We agreed to a price and told him I would think about it. I emailed him back confirming I would buy the truck. I went back in to buy the truck (cash) but the sales manager was off that day . The Owner refused to sign off on the deal because he didn't like the deal his manager made. The deal was documented in an email but the owner did not care nor did he trust his own sales manager. Lots of red flags through the entire process. Taking my cash elsewhere. This place is sketchy and at one point the owner questioned my integrity saying he doubt this deal even happened! Miranda at Universal Auto contacted me via email to follow up on a car I was no longer interested in. She said no problem and said she could see what else they might have...... I received many emails back-and-forth from Miranda, one car (Scion tC) was of interest to my son. I eventually start to talk with Jay (a sales person). I was very upfront with Miranda and Jay that there was a certain amount of money to work with and that we didn't want to waste our time or theirs with coming out there if the car Miranda e-mailed me could not be purchased at that amount. I told them we don't want financing, it would be a cash purchase. She assured me repeatedly "we are so close to that number, I'm sure something can be worked out". She had Jay call me, which I told him the same thing. He told me that "my presence in person carries a lot of weight". We decided to go out to see the car. We live 45 minutes away. Jay meets us there. The price was listed $4990. I was offering $4,000, which is already $300 over Kelly Blue Book with 163,000 miles on it. He gives my son the key. While test driving it, the check engine light comes on. He gets back and Jay goes on to tell us it hasn't been inspected and gone through their process yet, even though Miranda had said it went through a 120 point inspection. Then, Jay starts writing his sales pitch. Adding on this fee and that fee, as if we had never talked. I reminded him of what I told him and Miranda. He said he knows, "I got you, but if we could take a certain amount today, then in two weeks you could..." I stopped him and said no financing, like I had already told him. He said he'd go back and let his sales mgr know, comes back with another figure, still over the amount he knew we were willing to pay. I tell him no, reminded him AGAIN how he and Miranda assured me we wouldn't be wasting our time, and said "let me tell my mgr that you will pay this amount "as is". Miranda had emailed me that none of their cars are "as is". Sales mgr comes out saying "this is the lowest I'll do... " with a figure of still $500 more than Miranda and Jay know I had told them. I told the sales mgr that is not what Jay or Miranda told me. They assured me I wouldn't waste my time bringing in $4,000 cash in person. The sales mgr asked specifically what did Miranda tell me, so I told him. I also told him Jay had said that. I told him thanks so much for wasting my time, after I was clear I did not want to do that. As I'm leaving I hear the sales mgr ask Jay "why didn't you tell me that?" Long story short..... This dealer, and it's employees are not honest and forthright. They will tell you anything to get you there so they can work their pitch on you. My wife and I purchased a Sienna minivan from this stealership a couple months ago. We initially went to look at the van because it was listed as AWD in the ad, and when I went to look at it, it listed All Wheel Drive as a feature int eh window sticker. After the deal, it turns out to not be AWD at all, that is a $5K option! So now we owe too much on the vehicle vs. its value. Randy also promised to split the cost of a $600 set of run-flat tires with me, I paid my half ($300) and they installed a set of Mulit-Mile LS tires valued at $280 tops, meaning he spent my money and did not contribute a cent! They also promised (all on the we-owe) to install a DVD system in the van. The installer quoted me a $1475 value on the system, then when it turns out that you can't install a DVD system in the van, they refuse to refund the value of the system to me or the value of the tires. I recommend a more reputable dealer, like a back alley, night time, cash only, sight unseen, no titles, nicknames only deal under an overpass downtown. Atleast then, you know you'll get screwed going into it rather than being distracted by the smiles and clean shirts. read more
