So far, I've had surprisingly good experiences. The front desk staff have been kind and helpful. The NP I see for my primary care has really gone to bat for me regarding my management of blood thinners and insurance issues with my tirzepatide. She's also been helpful with referrals to other providers, like cardiology, imaging, and sleep. And she doesn't just refer me, but she's been in touch with other providers who are on or have been on my care team. Stephanie Shaw, ARNP I haven't been as impressed with the behavioral health side. After complaining of back and hip pain for 6 years, Lisa Montgomery finally ordered a lower lumbar MRI in 2022. The problem? She didn't tell me. It was ultimately approved, and I still wasn't told; not by Lisa or Mt. Baker Imaging. It wasn't until many months later that the NEXT providor caught it. The pain during this time increased until I could barely walk. They appear to care, but much falls through the cracks. Patients would be best advise to check their providers work for thoroughness and accuracy. Especially if you have a large patient file. They don't review the entire file, maybe the first few pages at best. They've cared for me since 2016, their providers last anywhere from 12-16 months. As much as I would love to say I like unity care (the place I've been going to for the last 10 years) they have never taken any of my concerns literally. On multiple occasions I would complain about having symptoms of a condition runs in my family and they would refuse to even test me, then continue to act like I'm making things up. One of the test that I argued in her office for was to take my bpm sitting, standing, and laying. Ridiculously easy. She did not want to test me telling me 'there's no cure for the condition, so there's no reason to have the diagnosis'. She finally caved and guess what? I have said condition. This has happened everytime I have a concern it's just brushed away. It's infuriating. I still haven't gotten tested for a few things that are genetic!!!! Why are you gonna deny someone a test when it runs in their family? It's unreasonable. read more

I've been going to the dental facility for over a year now , my teeth are in so much pain ! I've had several fillings done and redone by them and they always tell me if it feels off to come back but when I try to reach out to come back they don't have any space. I've been unable to chew on certain sides of my mouth for months at a time it's been horrible. Yes they accept state insurance but it's not worth it they are messing up my teeth and don't seem to know what they are doing. read more

I go to Unity Care in Ferndale for my medical needs, dental, prescription needs & labs. It is the first lower income/siding fee scale medical clinic that I've loved! Super clean, excellent medical care from doctors & ANRPs, great dental care and I love getting all my medical needs cared for in one clean beautiful facility. I've been getting my medical needs taken care of here for seven years, I'm now on Social Security and appreciate the medical care I continue to get. I have been treated at Unity Care in Bellingham since 2007. I see them on a very frequent basis and have ALWAYS been treated well. I was shocked reading some of the reviews, especially since a lot of the reviewers are in a situation with Dental issues. It's a medical facility, not a dentist office. They do emergency dental care. You should always have a regular dentist lined up for big problems. Next, the doctors and nurses and schedulers are ALWAYS wonderful...and I have seen and been treated by many. I don't know why people, especially those who are low income, don't appreciate having a knowledgeable team of doctors and nurses who go above and beyond in their treatment. I have been treated in several different crisis situations, both mental and physical and they have gotten me help and followed up later. I started going there when I had no insurance and did the sliding scale...which literally saved my life. I now have insurance and could go anywhere I want for the last 12 years and I CHOOSE to be their patient. I love the nurse practitioners also, they are so thorough. My current doctor is Dr. Tilley and I just love him. Thank you Unity Care, for your commitment to this community. A few more incidents since the first review- told by DDS all good save an infection below a tooth giving pain- nothing after that, not a schedule to fix just a pre scheduled cleaning...I called about pain and swelling, and need to fix the issue ....need DDS recommendation....told me they could t see me for three months (seek care elsewhere) - I call back we'll after just to have them document what happened (I am up to 34 pages now), and they ask why I didn't walk in?!!!!!!! They called again, said they had an appt, which the last time they said they could not address the infection just do a cleaning and nothing else. The first time they said we could only do x rays and nothing else. Pretty good business model for a NPO huh? Lots to bill for there ... No one would believe this experience without proof. I wouldn't. Wow. Apparently my earlier review was deleted by Yelp. It was much longer. Here are the points: 1- They refused, twice and openly, to receive and review my previous medical tests, records, blood tests, and any other relevant records. I offered them in CD, paper form, and digitally. They refused them. 2. I received a blood test back showing my A1C rose and the doctor CUT my dosage! I literally had the past 9 blood tests in my hands and she literally refused to look at them. 3. I said on the entry paperwork I was concerned about thyroid. Their blood test indicated it was normal, when I brought 9 years worth of blood tests showing abnormal. The Thyroid does not just get normal. So, a A1C result different and higher than the previous four years of tests, combined with a "normal" thyroid result that had not been so in a decade. The result was no thyroid meds and lower doses of diabetes medicine even though the A1C was higher. I was told to ignore my previous tests. They clearly only wish to be responsible for what you physically wrote on their entry paperwork. This is purposeful, we were educated by the law firm that they do this to limit their risk and accountability. No one would believe this without proof, but there are even more stories. Yes, I left the practice and today still trying to get legitimate dentist help and actual informed health care. read more

i had the worst experience I have ever had at Unitycare with Angela Taylor,ARNP. Not only was she rude,arrogant,and dismissive, I had to turn her into the WA state medical board for her,in my opinion,malpractice. My two,top Seattle specialists had asked I be referred to both Infectious Disease and asap to a cardiologist. I have two terminal illnesses. She lied, said she was a PA ( she is not,she is advertised as an ANRP,merely a nurse who should not pretend to be a doctor). She denied my physicians requests for referrals saying " I am not allowed to refer". Funny thing, when I spoke to the office mgr,she said all ARNP's can make referrals. She decided to overrule my two top physicians. Her license does not legally permit her to practice medicine over an MD.A second ,blatant lie. Despite the advice of my neurosurgeon,and Harvard cum laude Psychiatrist,who treats the diseases, she said " I don't think you need those referrals ". If you value your life, do not see this pratitioner. The medical board wants me to send as much information as I can,in order to pursue this case. She will be investigated,in all likelihood. I told the office mgr they should fire her on the spot for what appears to be slam dunk negligence. For sure she will be reprimanded for fraud for perpetrating a PA. This is a tricky review for me. When I first got sick almost 4 years ago Unity was so helpful, I even had a case worker who really helped me even when I was unsure needed her help. But I've also had a uncaring primary doctor who tried to stop me from seeing specialists at Skagit. After filing a complaint at Unity, she was over ruled. These 3 Skagit specialists quickly improved my health are very proactive. Then early January I learned my insurance was canceled due to not renewing in December. Strange since I've had 3 meetings with Don at Unity's insurance office and he told me not to worry about renewing, it would automatically cover January. But here's worst part to me...No one at Unity cares that their employee's action caused me to lose my healthcare , affecting medical procedures, doctor appointments and more already scheduled for January, 1 appointment was scheduled 4 months ago. The lack of concern about how this will affect my health and the amount of stress it has and is causing really lowered my opinion of Unity and whether I can recommend them as I have previously. I've used Unity since relocating here, in good health and bad, with great employment insurance and not. But now I am disappointed and saddened...I placed several calls to Unity concerning loss of insurance and have been told just reschedule all appointments for later when Medicare covers you. For the month of January this impacted I changed all appointments to tele appointments, cancelled heart testing, asked Don Cook to cover misc appointments for month, which he did although it wasn't easy path as each invoice caused some drama. But they did get paid. In majority of ways Unity provides excellent care but you can fall thru the cracks easily, so be careful. Their Ferndale dental clinic has impressed me each visit, before relocating here i used famous organic dentist in Palm Beach Florida who pales next to this dental clinic! Skagit provides higher quality care with a smoother flow when you need xrays, bloodwork, diagnostic tests, surgery etc. Definitely worth the drive. Avoid Peace Health if possible although their physical therapy department is outstanding read more

I love my doctor at Unitycare and Ive recieved great care from this clinic whenever ive needed anything. Why do i love this place? * They are a non-profit healthcare provider! * They have Saturday clinic hours which has saved me from having to go to $$urgent care$$ a couple of times. * The staff is friendly not pretentious. * Ive never had any issues between them and the various health insurances ive had over the past 5 years. * Its a community health center so they try to care for as many people as possible regardless of insurance provider -- unlike most clinics. I love their mission! * They have free parking in a big lot across the street. * They are located downtown instead of a neighborhood or in a remote business park. * They have a sliding-fee scale which is helpful if you have low income and high-deductible insurance. Healthcare is tricky and there are lots of variables that can affect our satisfaction of any clinic or doctor; but Unitycare NW and their staff does everything to make me a happy client. read more

Primary care is awesome,but staff has been really unprofessional when it comes to behavioral health.Recently,I had to call two days in a row to try and see a alternative provider for my behavioral health here.When I called both times they said they needed to see which other providers could do over the phone or virtual appointments,and then they would call me back.Three days later my current counselor calls me...confused and wondering if I wanted to see her or another provider.For some reason they gave her a note after I called.Talk about an awkward conversation. Now I get a letter in the mail stating that I'm on a waiting list to see a different provider?I was never informed this by any of the staff that I talked to.Super unprofessional. read more

My wife and I, both retired, had Unity Care Northwest for medical. I also used their dental clinic in Ferndale. My wife decided to use the same dental clinic, so that all our medical and dental records were more easily accessible. Although my wife had been x-rayed a few months prior to her first visit to the dental clinic in Ferndale, they completed new x-rays. Her co-pay cost, after insurance was approx $500.00. This is well beyond the total cost ever charged by any other provider. Additionally, it was done without prior consent. When we questioned the charges, we were told, that is what it is. Although we were basically happy with the medical care we received, we felt they just kited the bill, because their revenues were down due to Reduced revenues from Covid. Being on fixed incomes we could ill afford this high care for dental x-rays. If using the dental clinic at Unity Care NW, you should check the cost of services before using them. read more

I'm in Bellingham, not SF. VPN fools them. I've been a patient at this clinic for five years, since I moved here from Seattle. First four years I was very satisfied--then my doctor retired, and all hell broke lose. I've had three PCP's (personal care providers) in the last six months. One appointment was with a nurse practitioner who should be stripped of her license (lied to me, tried to make me go into the hospital). I was fainting, falling down, broke my right wrist, so weak I could hardly get up. They thought it was my heart. My former doctor, still working part time, intervened and said, 'It's not his heart, it's a critical magnesium deficiency' and prescribed three magnesium horse pills a day. I got better in four days, and still feeling better all the time. I was taking Nexium, and foolishly stopped taking my multivitamin. Only 40+ years experience caught that. I am forever grateful to Dr. Gabay. Anyway, I called to confirm an appointment tomorrow, after I went down and got the blood tests the new doc requested. The appointment was orginally made in early June, for the end of the month. They called and canceled it and gave me an appointment end of July (tomorrow). When I called, they told me the appointment was now for August 29. This time, cancelled with no notice! I always set reminders on my Alexa device, and it reminded me yesterday. Unbelievable! I was furious, and told them this was unacceptable, and unfair to an existing patient. They could have cared less. I understand and applaud their mission to serve the underserved, but for crying out loud, can't they still serve the full-paying customers? I'm 69, in great health, and on medicare and AARP supplemental. I don't need this aggravation. I'm on a waiting list for Peace Health gerontology, and they said it should only be a couple months before I'm accepted there. Can't wait. Last words I said to them today were 'Can't you please treat your patients better?'. Just my experience. But all true. read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had at a doctor. I went in for an appointment a couple of months ago and am STILL receiving messages and mail from them despite calling and asking to take my name off all information. My visit was supposed to be a simple visit to transfer my care so that I could continue to have my prescription filled. After going in and talking with the doctor she recommended I talk with another doctor who then talked to me like a child and told me I had an eating disorder growing up and acted like I was insane and super messed up. After an hour and a half of me crying trying to tell him my experiences while he turned my words on me and did not understand he had me go get blood tests done. I told the nurse I hadn't eaten and I just spent an hour and a half locked in a poorly lit room with a man telling me I was messed up. SHe said "you'll be fine" and drew twice as much blood as I was expecting while chatting with another nurse about a baseball game and completely ignoring me. I then saw that my middle initial was wrong on the form and she said I had to go back to the office to fix it because they "put whatever was on my ID" despite that not being what is on my ID. I then went and waited ten minutes to have one letter changed. I have received such a large bill for a visit that was supposed to be half an hour but was almost three hours. I went to WWU Health center where I was treated kindly and the doctor told me that the feelings and thoughts I was having was due to my medication needing to be increased which is what I told the doctor at unity care who told me there were much bigger problems. I am doing well now and just trying to detach from unity care. I want them to stop contacting me because it just reminds me of the awful experience where I was ignored and felt faint by the end. Would not recommend it. I have never felt more isolated, unheard and scared than my day at Unity Care NW. read more

I had a Dr. Kate wojniki. She has a poor bedside manner. had an appointment of which my spouse attended with me. she came into the room with a nurse assistant by the name of Marcia Tomlin she stated that she had results for me after running blood test but she wasn't quite sure if they were accurate which left me confused because if you are not sure a results why would you be reading them especially with a spouse in the Run so after reading the results I became upset of which I sat there and cried for almost 2 minutes neither one of them offered me a tissue or said anything later on it turns out that the results that she read in front of both me and my spouse were inaccurate so obviously this made me uncomfortable from a patient perspective not only do you not really care about your patients but you're also providing inaccurate information which is further putting them through emotional turmoil I came in about a month later for another appointment to discuss my persisting condition that we were trying to figure out as I was about to leave she stated I would hate to be in your shoes of which I have never heard any professional makes such a hurtful comment to a patient I knew at that point I had to take action I contacted a Mary who did not convey the message to Muriel that I prefer to have a different PTP finally a Chrissy reached out to me got me connected with Muriel and pretty much Save the Day Unity care is a great place to get help but just like anywhere else you have to be comfortable and you have to work with people that here to help you you and your physician should be a team working together I hope this review prevent someone going through what I went through but all in all it's a great place. read more

My experience with them was horrible from start to finish. When I moved, I needed to find new medical providers and had heard that they were trans-friendly so I thought I'd give them a try. First of all, they won't let you schedule with a mental health provider until you've seen a PCP (WTF? why do I need to wait that 4-6 weeks to see a doctor and then another however long before I can see a therapist?). Anyway decided to make an appointment anyway because I needed my medications refilled and I had to go somewhere. I explicitly stated that I was transgender, was already on hormones, and needed someone who was comfortable working with that. When you walk in the door, you take a number and then get called up to actually check-in, because nothing says good care like feeling like your at the DMV. I brought the completed medical history paperwork that they had mailed me. After calling me back to the exam room then proceeded to enter all this information (multiple pages) into the computer, which took probably 20 minutes, while barely acknowledging that I was there. I had to awkwardly sit there while someone reads and enters personal information without even making eye-contact. Finally, the doctor comes in and I'm going over my needs. He tells me that he doesn't feel like he knows enough about hormones to monitor them, and usually refers people to Planned Parenthood for that. When I told him that I had specifically asked for someone who could do this, he told me that yes, he does work with and see trans patients for primary care, but doesn't do hormones. He was willing to write me a refill on my existing prescription though. When I asked about mental health referrals, he told me that he does have experience working with patients with bipolar, which mind you is infinitely more complicated than running periodic blood tests to make sure hormones aren't screwing up your liver or red blood cell counts. I got the refill, so it bought me some time to make an appointment elsewhere (I ended up deciding to stay with my doctor in Seattle despite the drive). Then, as the last straw, I got a bill in the mail because instead of billing me for primary care - which my insurance would cover - they billed the appointment as a problem specific appointment. The amount of effort by him was literally to enter a prescription for the medication I TOLD him I was taking. No detailed history taking, no blood work, no detailed exam, NOTHING. read more

I had an appointment with on a Friday and I was told that it was a little busy, but I still managed to get a time slot for my appointment. I tend not to come into the doctor's office unless something is wrong, so I went in with abnormal symptoms. It wasn't a cold, or heat stress, or anything that I could take care of myself or tough out. During my appointment, I felt like my concerns weren't taken seriously. I notified both the nurse and the doctor that I had two reasons why I decided to come in and only one was even addressed. The doctor never even asked if I had any questions during the session. I have a family history of a certain disease and I fully believe that if I had not expressly asked to test for it, they wouldn't have even suggested I get one. I know that it's important to try and catch these things early, so I was pretty disappointed with the doctor's apparent rush to get through her patients. I hope this is not the norm and was just an off day. I had my blood drawn and the lab staff there were really nice. They were caring, professional and quick. I would give them 5 stars. read more

Where to start. We live in Point Roberts and Unity decided to walk out on our whole community and leave us with no healthcare because they were not making enough money. They have provided us with such lack luster care, I am glad they are leaving. The local people who work in the clinic are delightful and helpful. The latest ARNP that they gave us is a nightmare! She is insensitive to patients, makes sweeping med changes with little or no explanation. When asked questions, she barks that she doesn't need to be challenged. She told a developmentally disabled girl that she would never be normal and if she stayed on the medication that was helping her, that she would be an addict. She cried all night. She told someone with anxiety to go on Zoloft after a 5 minute conversation on a first visit. She changed meds for at least 6 patients I know who were stable. Now they are not.
