Worst medical care ever. Heartless, uncaring, rude and inefficient. Three weeks to review a referral two more week for an appointment. They knew there was an MRI but neglected to get the film. Could not treat me until they got the films. Over a week later, nothing. When I called to inquire, was put on a 5 min hold and then the line went dead. Called back and was told there is nothing they can do but put in the request again Thankfully there are many pain clinics in the Seattle area for me to pick from. Avoid this place. To the person on the phone today: Your lake of compassion and grace when dealing f with a patient in pain is unacceptable. I am a retired physician and visited Mt Baker Pain Clinic two weeks ago. I have been in many healthcare facilities and for me this one was excellent---I was seen on time with previsit instructions via internet, the facility is modern, spacious and very clean. The fluoroscope looked pretty new, the nurses were personable and Dr. Nowlin careful and understanding. Wonderful experience. The steroid injection didn't help in the end which I had been warned about.....but the experience was very nice. read more

I have been going there for years I am on my 4th provider (Hannah). If you want a provider who treats you as if you are a liar, talks down to you and basically treats you distain then this is the one for you. The people that work here use to care about you and acted that they liked there clients but not now. They obviously don't like there jobs or the people who they are there for medical care. It is really sad that you pay these people to treat you so unprofessional. I believe they think everyone who goes there for help are drug seekers because that is how they treat you. It is disgusting. Given a referral to this clinic for pain was a wasted $30 co-payment & the worst reception I ever received in my life. After owning my own Medical company for many years & being in the industry my entire life I have to say I met the most arrogant, disrespectful Physician's Assistant. He didn't listen, overtalked me when I was trying to answer his question, told me I was doing everything all wrong for my pain & dismissed me because he has too many cases of opioid patients while talking about himself the whole ten minutes I was there!. He was the most complete jerk I have ever seen in the whole medical profession! I've been primarily a patient at the Burlington office for years and I love those folks, never had any problems, but recent transportation issues had me go to the Bham office for the drug screen a couple months ago. They're not very friendly there. A month later, was told my sample was rejected (?!) and when I asked why, I was told "don't know".. so I went back for another test. Long story short, they didn't like that one either, so I went back again. I felt the warmth of the cup as I handed it to the tech. I mention that bcuz they said the temperature didn't match (?!) and now they want a blood draw. Nope, not happening. I don't care WHATS in the contract, nobody's sticking a needle in my arm. I should add at this point that my appearance is much different than their other patients. I do not have gray hair, wear polyester pant suits and orthopedic shoes. I have blue hair, wear leggings and tees and my Birkies. This was never an issue at Burlington but apparently in Bham you're suspicious. read more

In May '22 I was referred here by my PCP since I needed new clinic for ongoing issues related to a cervical fusion/whiplash post car accident. I had moved here recently so had none of the people who I'd worked with for past 15+ years. The NP who saw me did zero physical exam, did not have any conversation about what I had been doing (like 2 full work ups and consults with top spinal surgeons/pain management experts in the SF area)--only reviewed my records. The only thing she said was to try and sell me on getting an implant my previous docs had said would be very unlikely to help at all and could exacerbate things. Even the literature on the implant she gave me implied the device was not effective for the situation I had. I had gone in hoping to find a clinic to help navigate future issues, but left feeling they are more into promoting aggressive interventions. As a veterinarian of 35+ years, I'm pretty familiar with good patient care and communication, and I did not receive it here. read more

After so many years of suffering Mount Baker Pain Clinic saved my life!!! Having had so many failed procedures I wasn't very optimistic . This was a last attempt and oh my goodness. They truly saved me. The relief I received on my lower back and hips was just,unbelievable. I was speechless. Plus I learned so much, they are very knowledgeable and explain everything . I primarily visit the Burlington office. Dr Richardson has been my primary care giver. He has been really good to me since day one, as has the staff at the clinic! I was suffering in extreme pain and he prescribed the right medication for me and scheduled a steroid injection. The medication he prescribed provided even pain relief, throughout the day and night. No more rollercoaster relief then extreme pain. Then it was time for the steroid injection in Bellingham, which I had experienced 10 years ago and frankly, it was a nightmare. This steroid injection was completely different, from beginning to end. I was in a hospital gown and cap, in a surgery room and on a gurney. Dr Richardson and two nurses were present to assist. Dr Richardson used a camera the entire time while he performed the injection. I could feel the medicine going where the pain had been. Again, it was nothing like the injection I had 10 years ago! I've been dealing with severe pain in my entire back and neck for 10 years. I began seeing Dr Nowlin about a month ago and I rank him with the best Dr's I've seen, and there's a lot of them. He's inviting, understanding, and conveys information in a very reassuring way. I've seen him in the office in Mt Vernon and then in the Arlington Mt Baker Pain for an epidural procedure. Unlike my experience with my most recent prior pain Dr, Dr Nowlin is a consummate professional and my pain stopped immediately and I've remained pain-free since for the first time in 10 years. The staff at both places are top-notch as well. I look forward to further non-narcotic treatments for my back with Dr Nowlin. Thank you sir. read more

Deplorable doctor's especially Michea. My doctor who was an addiction specialist sent me to Michea at the mount Baker pain clinic because he wasn't able to prescribe me methadone in a way that would treat pain, nor could he get me the treatment I needed to rehabilitate my injuries from 25 years cooking in restaurants. Michea was supposed to do all that and prescribe me methadone in divided doses thru out the day plus a breakthrough medication. Now that was what my doctor told me was happening When I get into Michea's care I was put on a drastic taper routine that left me constantly in withdrawal and pain. He did maybe one or two half assed attempts at treating me. Refused to prescribe my methadone in divided doses or to prescribe anything else at all to help. No neurontin, prednisone or even ibuprofen. Botched my MRI's for months. Sent me to get xrays that he already had but couldn't be bothered to check. He blatantly ignored me asking him to allow me time to get stable at my methadone dosage before lowering it again as I was in horrible pain and withdrawal while still having to cook full time and failing at it. So of course in my constant pain I relapsed, after I tried for months to tell him that he was pushing me straight to one. After that he kicked me out and now I cant be seen at the clinic. I even cant get gase vouchers from my insurance to the UW in Seattle because it was "my fault I'm not able to be seen at MTBPC" This doctor was flippant and uneducated on how to give me care and had no concern that his actions were a recking ball thru my life. Yes I relapsed, its horrible and I hated my actions in doing so; however if he would have been compassionate with me and slowed down my taper regime I could have eventually tapered off completely without problems. Be careful with this place. My experience was that they are an unsafe practice that will do more harm than good. read more

I sought treatment at MBPC & was originally evaluated by a NP named Micah. It was casual and seemed unthorough but I had nothing to compare it to. Was diagnosed & told I needed injections. I have a background of panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, made this clear, & they said not to worry- the injections aren't that bad. I endured injections where they numbed my facet joints to confirm the problem. Awful anxiety-ridden experiences but his techs were a blessing that helped me through. Dr Watanabe then recommended radio-frequency ablation, something that patients are put under for the procedure. He expressed that because I was a nursing mother, I was not allowed to be sedated because of the medication. When I inquired about the medication it turned out to be the exact meds I was given during labor and delivery. I urged him to reconsider and explained my sound reasoning. I reminded his office that we were under a very strict timeline to get my procedure done, as we are a military family and our hard orders to move to Japan were drawing close (had already sold most of our home belongings and listed our home for sale for a couple months). Dr Watanabe was well aware of all of this (he swooned over the beauty of Japan and told me about the things he loved over there), and that the only hold up we were experiencing for medical approval that my back was treated as they didn't have those medical resources for me at our new overseas duty station. The morning of my appointment I received a phone call 15 minutes prior to my check-in time. His nurse was informing me that he had decided that he would not allow sedation during this painful and invasive procedure because of the nursing we had talked about prior. I begged them not to do this to me, explained how much this would effect my family's life, and said I could use pumped milk until the drugs (that, again, they give during LABOR & DELIVERY) were out of my system. When my husbands command got word a week later that my procedure date was extended, they cancelled our orders--which was 3 weeks before we should have shipped out. Since then, I have seen 2 different pain clinics in CA. Both clinics sedate their patients for any spinal injections as common practice. This was a huge relief for my anxiety. The doctor that did my radio frequency ablation, that Watanabe backed out on 15 minutes before my appointment, had no issues w/ me being a nursing mother. The procedure worked for a year (12-18 months is the normal timeframe until the effects wear off), so I got set up with a new doctor and a new consultation. As this Dr evaluated me I realized how different this evaluation was from the one performed by Micah the NP, nor any evaluation performed by Dr Watanabe. It was astounding realizing the difference in professional knowledge and diagnosis. By this time I had given birth to another child & was transparent about that fact. Again it was a non-issue. I received sedation for my numbing injections, and for my radio frequency ablation. As it turned out, these procedures were only necessary on one side of my spine, so in essence Dr Watanabe got paid to perform unnecessary procedures on my back. Fraud or ignorance? I will never know, as the character of this man has proven to demonstrate both as likely possibilities. I suggest driving South for any pain clinic needs, rather than wasting your time on a mediocre specialist who has no interest in keeping his patients comfortable during invasive procedures. Or potentially having long-planned procedures cancelled unethically and unprofessionally. It's really disgusting what a Dr will do, knowing how much it will effect his patient's life in such a drastic way. Being a military family and dealing with instability and deployments is hard enough without one man being responsible for changing our family's entire trajectory; and him doing so knowingly and purposefully has caused me significant PTSD within all medical settings now. One star given for: lack of knowledge, nuance, ethics and compassionate care. Don't be a victim of him. read more

Wow! I was surprised at the negative reviews that some posted regarding Mt. Baker Pain Clinic. I was referred to MTBPC by both my primary care and rheumatologist doctors. After going through a series of tests that Micah recommended, I had a procedure done that took care of 90 % of my lower back, hip and even leg and foot pain. Micah was extremely thorough, knowledgeable and empathetic. I had 2 different doctors throughout this process and they were both wonderful and the nursing staff exceptional. I can't say enough positive words about this clinic. They helped me with my pain and enabled me to lead a fuller life without using heavy duty pain killers. I appreciate that. Thank you!! read more

Staff is extremely rude . takes an extremely long time in order to even attempt to get them to schedule an appointment. Staff have very bad customer service skills. Just like any business if the staff continues to be rude to there customers the providers loose business . Patients are no dependent on them , they can choose to go to another provider thats treat them with respect and can get scheduled with another provider that is more willing and friendlier that welcomes the service. read more

After the way he (and the reception staff) treated my daughter, refused to listen, withheld treatment, misdiagnosed and ultimately refused her contact with a physician who practices at the clinic I will do everything in my power to see that he will regret the day he ever opened his mouth. 4 years of chronic pain, my daughters unrelenting pursuit of managing her own illness, never accepting no for an answer ultimately led to a surgery that literally has rendered her pain free. She has zero pain after being bedridden 80% of the time. She actually identified what she had to him and they could of done two tested that confirmed it. They basically blacklisted her when she tried to manage her own withdrawal from patches and opiates. My daughter keeps spotless records in her effort to advocate for herself. Being referred to the Bellingham office was one of the worst experiences of my life! When doctors started getting a lot of government flak for prescribing pain medication I was referred to this pain clinic. The doctor I saw was a creepy perv and took advantage of the fact that he knew I needed pain medicine. He made inappropriate comments, and asked inappropriate questions. Like, due to my pain how long I was able to have sex with my husband, and in what positions! I told him I wasn't comfortable discussing that. He had a creepy smile and seemed to enjoy making me uncomfortable. Then he wanted me stripped down to bra and panties and to put on a little hospital gown that opened in the back. I had no idea that this kind of exam would be required, and I happened to be wearing thong Underpants! He seemed to be having problems with the computer so he brought another male physician in the room to check me out! After he left and we were alone the exam started. He wanted me to bend and twist and all kinds of positions. I kept trying to hold the nighty closed in the back and told him I was not wearing full coverage panties. He continued to ask me to bend and twist in different directions and always seem to be trying to get behind me. Finally he wanted me to reach my hands way up in the air obviously so I couldn't hold the nighty closed. Then ask me to bend over and touch my toes with him behind me!!!! I whipped around and snapped" I don't think so"!!! He smirked a creepy grin, and thank God that was the end of that exam. I left feeling completely violated, and sick to my stomach, with my prescription in hand! Because my doctor didn't want to continue prescribing chronic pain patients I was stuck having to continue to see this man. I felt pretty stressed when I went to see him, and was pretty unfriendly, and tried to get out of there as quick as I could. But that didn't make it very fun for him! On one appointment that was scheduled quite a few days before my script was due he wanted to do a pill count. I thought nothing of it and pulled out my prescription. All of the sudden we realized I was two pills short. I get violent migraines and end up throwing up the medication. After an hour of letting my stomach settle I will try it again trying to get the pain under control! Without any conscience, or heart, or Soul, he fired me as a patient!!!! He didn't care what happened to me, or my children I wouldn't be able to take care of! Or the fact if you're fired from a pain contract no other doctors will take you. Over two f****** pills I had thrown up!!! I'm sure that if I went in there with Daisy Dukes on and bent over in front of him he probably would have upped my prescription!!!! Doctors and the medical community are killing chronic pain patients every day! Either they commit suicide. Or they finally just break down and turn to heroin. And with the fentanyl laced heroin out there we all know how that turns out. There is really very little help out there, and that is why we have an opiate epidemic! I know there's a lot of doctors out there with very bloody hands with the way they treat chronic pain patients!!! There are limited medical options to address chronic pain in Bellingham and yet Mount Baker Pain Clinic makes it compelling to endure the pain rather than trying to work with their office staff. The two people who work at the front desk are rude, dismissive, and seem to work hard to alienate patients. I have taken my mother to this clinic several times to have her recurring pain treated and the experience is so bad that, despite her terrible pain, she would rather not go and have to deal with the office personnel. The medical staff seems fine, although recently we were kept waiting 45 minutes beyond the scheduled appointment time before my mother was taken to the treatment room where she had to wait another 30 minutes before she received a single shot, albeit a procedure that required considerable care. That was for a morning appointment for which we arrived 15 minutes early. Imagine if that had been an afternoon appointment... how far behind would they be then! Go to Mt Baker Pain Clinic if you must but be prepared for a horrible experience. read more

Unfrigginbelievable rudeness out of the Arlington office. My mother has been sick for 4 weeks on top of her other multiple ailments. My daughter has also caught this terrible respiratory thing as have I. Because I have missed work due to being sick, my mom was caring for my daughter so I didnt miss more work. My mother called the office and told the front desk, she was told it was fine to come in, just wear a mask. Then when she arrived the medical assistant threw a fit, shoved an 11 pill "get by" rx in her hand and stormed off. She has now driven there 3 times and been turned away. The additional new med she was put on has not been reviewed with her because they havent let her have an appointment since. Really? You cant let your patients come in and wear a mask when they have a cough? Do you not sterilize between patients? 40 minute drive people!! We have an extremely limited budget and the travel costs are adding up for this. She was also scolded for being a couple minutes late. I understand the need for timeliness as I work in a medical office myself, however some understanding that traffic issues driving from so far will sometimes happen should be present. Even if you have to reschedule someone you can do it with empathy and kindness. Her first appointment she got lost, with her ailments she sometimes gets confused and the navigator sent her somewhere random. She called them for help, was told "oh just go back and get on this road" that was their "help". She eventually found it and was rescheduled for being late. You have elderly patients!!!! Do you have ANY COMPASSION?!?! This place treats people like they are all worthless. Im absolutely disgusted. Your staff needs to learn some customer service or find jobs where they don't interact with people. I will be speaking with her Doctor at Skagit and writing a letter to the clinic regarding this. I feel they should know where they are sending their patients. You are in business only because there is no where else nearby to go, and you are taking gross advantage of that be behaving so poorly. read more

I have had an excellent interaction with Dr Nolin at the Mt Baker Pain Clinic. He is supportive and yet definitely educated on different avenues of dealing with chronic pain which I have had for 30+ years. I went the whole psychotropic med route and they did me more harm then good. Dr Nolin has worked with me to not only find alternative ways to get help without pain meds but helped me fight the battle of insurance which can be anything but supportive and understanding. The Mt Baker Clinic staff were very helpful with the nightmarish walk through insurance. I'm so greatful for their understanding and standing up for me through that battle. I finally left that whole scene and went through GoodRX l. I am in control along with my Drs to help me rather than battling insurance companies. The clinic once again helped me with that change. For the first time in 30 plus years I am feeling better rather then a slow steady slope downhill. I recommend going to them. We need more places that can help people with chronic pain then having to go to clinics that deal with people who have addiction problems to get help. Good place all the way around. read more

I contacted the Mt Vernon pain clinic in advance. I told them that I would no longer be seeing them and to cancel my next appointment. (10th and 13th of julu) As a patient I chose to get off my opioid medication on my own. I wanted to be off of it. I was healed from my last surgery. I'm in pain but I will learn to deal with it naturally. I was tired of taking meds to stop the pain and my body having to take it..or withdrawal sickness. It was a never ending chore between opiods, and pleasing a clinic. As they accused me of having inconsistent UA screenings..that was not ever brought up to my attention until this year. Something they claimed happened last year. What clinic does that? Waits a entire year to bring that up..would of been nice to know! And u care about ur patients? Absolutely u do not! Casey Inman was rude and accused me of taking medications that I know for a fact that I did not take. As i have never had a issue with drugs or taking non prescribed meds. I have never had a dependency issue. Casey was extremely rude to me, and treated me like a drug seeker. I came to the clinic to get some relief from a horrible disease that I have..to get thru massive surgeries and have pain relief. Coming to the clinic caused me more stress. I had to worry about who i was seeing, if I had everything they wanted, if I was gonna make it to the clinic on time..as u will be rescheduled if ur one min late btw...be extremely sick if you dont have ur meds..have to go thru detox....only to be more stressed out, or have people from this clinic...that treat me like shit and a pill seeker"! I met with Dr Richardson..he is actually a OK doctor- we talked about his concerns.. he was fine..then my next appt was with casey. She litterly came into the room..reamed me for taking non prescribed medications that I know for a fact that I did not take....she is not a nice person and acts like she has a stick up her ass... She's a complete bitch...rude, disrespectful, and thinks she knows everything...she actually argued with me about my UA's..I'm pretty sure I know what medications I am taking..u dumb bitch!! She made it so I did not want to continue my care at their clinic. Never in my life have i disliked someone so much. She tried to twist my words and make it seem i was taking more of my meds than perscribed..i told her i took some extra tylenol..then she tried to twist what i said into..i was taking more of my pain medication than perscribed..ummm no..Tylenol is over the counter..Not to mention I could tell that.. They were seeking reasons to kick me out as a patient. As I have witnessed it happening to other people..It was the best decision for me to leave their clinic on my own..I called on the 10th and the 13th..then they send me a letter on the 24th that I am kicked out due to non compliance..haha no..I left ur clinic on my own..how do you kick out a patient that has already given notice and left your clinic? Hello fellow neck, scoliosis and lower back pain sufferers. I have never written a review before but here is mine on Mt. Baker pain Clinic in Bellingham. I went in for my consultation appointment with Dr Micah and left scared to death. I was told that in addition to four bulging disc in my neck and four in my lower back I had the worst arthritis from my skull to my tailbone he had ever seen in a fifty-five years old. Erg.......and so we scheduled my first cortisone shot for my lower back. My sister took me and we sat in the waiting room with others for an hour and forty-five minutes. I had not taken my pain medicine so I was in horrible pain when they called my name. I then was taken to another room to change and wait. The room was set up as an emergency room with curtains and other patients waiting. I was there for another forty-five minutes before going to the room for my treatment. Although I questioned them over and over again about the injection being between L5 and 6, when my severe pain was right in my tailbone...that is where they injected me. For three days while the local anesthetic was working I felt great but continue Vicodin as the rest of my back was still hurting so bad. On day three I was sitting on my couch and my bum started hurting little by little and was the same as before the procedure within an hour. I had another appointment for consultation number two prior injection number two for my neck but didn't go. I have talked to people and am now in the process of seeing Dr. Yen and I am doing Beemer treatments at Whatcom Physical Therapy in Blaine. Cass and Paul there are absolutely terrific. My experience with Mount Baker wasn't though. I felt they offer "assembly line" care and my insurance company deserves more for their money and myself better care. read more

My last review I was praising the timeliness, compassion and consistency. The regimen I was on 4 years was working at my body was improving. Finally feeling some control over my pain after being on the same pain medications for years, changing Rheumatology medications, and improving from major back surgery a year and a half ago; the quality of life was finally looking up. Yesterday I was told that the medications are going to be changed. The reason I switched to Mount Baker from Washington Center for Pain Management was because of proximity. Before switching I specifically asked if they would continue with the same care that I'd been having since moving up from Coronado 3 years ago. I was assured that would be fine. After over 6 months on course with marked improvement on my current regiment the game plan has been changed. This will most likely have vast repercussions on my quality of life. I feel like it's a bait and switch. I may have to return to my previous doctors. The only problem with Washington Center for pain management was location location location. Totally bummed. I'm hoping Mount Baker wants to make changes because of some brilliant breakthrough but I think its just the pressure of politics because pain medications are so often abused. Being obsessive compulsive, I have been diligently responsible. I really did not see this coming. It's a whole different world up here from UCSD and San Diego County. At least I will be able to try more yelp driven exploration of cuisines near my prior provider. I know there is a silver lining somewhere in all of this. read more

Micah Lacey has absolutely no knowledge of how to treat a patient with care and compassion. I have chosen to stop seeing him twice now and to suffer from pain instead of accepting his treatment option due to the horrible way he treats me. I have been accused of getting meds "from other folks," when it was just an old script I had left over because I hate being on opiates, so I either save them for desperate times or throw them away. In this case I had literally taken ONE pill that he acted like wasn't mine because it had been so long since it was prescribed to me. His solution to my pain was putting me on patches....PATCHES, continuous, non stop opioid treatment, the kind of shit that is the cause of dependency and addiction due to the body never knowing or having a chance to deal with pain on it's own! He wouldn't even consider any other options and just jumped to the very most powerful pain medication there is. Regardless of my history of being able to manage my pain with pain medicine that was not continuous, that I could just take as needed, and did not force me to be subjected to being on opiates 24/7. Patients go to see doctors to get help. Not to wind up with more problems. Hellooooo...we are in the middle of an opioid crisis...Its doctors like this that make that happen. The way he talks he doesn't allow for conversation, it's just simply him making accusations and decisions giving you no room to speak, without letting you ever state your opinion or correcting the wrongful accusations. He doesn't care about his patients well-being. He doesn't care about your opinion. And the part that blows my mind the most is that when I was in the ER just a few weeks ago I overheard a man who was found after being missing for nearly 3 weeks explain how his doctor at this same location had ruined his life by putting him on patches. He was so heart broken by the way it had taken his life from him. His family was so worried about him. I should have known from that not to ever trust this doctor. When you are in pain and want help and already have a lot of health concerns the last thing you need is any more problems. If someone doesn't want to be on pain killers all the time, why would any doctor try to force them to be anyways? I went in looking to give him a second chance and immediately he told me I was getting a second chance from him....ha. It saddens me that there are physicians out there like this. We are in the middle of an opioid epidemic, if I don't want to risk being sucked into that, I don't get why any doctor wouldn't want to respect that. This guy is ridiculous. It amazes me that his license hasn't been taken away already. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. Horrible customer service. I was scheduled for a 3:30 appointment coming from marysville and ended up getting stuck in traffic. I called at 3:15 and spoke to the receptionist and she said they would still see me if I arrived by 3:45. I was getting off the exit as I was calling (about 3:47) and was told if I was there in the next few minutes if be seen. I got there not even a full minute later, she took my paperwork and told me she'd be right back. I sat there waiting at least ten minutes just for the doctor to come out and tell me he was too busy even though I was the only one in the waiting room, and couldn't even wait to be seen after everyone else. Why couldn't she have just told me no when I called?! Avoid this place at all costs!!!!!!!! read more
