Unfortunately I have a mixed review for this United Fleet. For years we've taken our cars here for oil changes. They have a deal with some local schools where you can buy a card for oil changes for the year and the price is much less than you'd pay normally plus the proceeds go to schools. In that regard we've never had any problems with them and the service has been good.
This year, however, I took in my car and they said there's an oil leak and gave me a quote of about $230 to fix the gasket around the oil pan. I had seen some drips under the car so I confirmed something was likely leaking. I made an appointment and brought it in. After sitting there awhile the guy says he made a mistake on the time and instead of a half day's work, which I was waiting in the shop for them to do, it was a full day's work and the price would be nearly double. I said I'd have to check before they did anything and the guy got a manager who said to hold tight and went to the back.
When he came out he said to come with him and took me under the car. He pointed out a couple of areas with moisture and where it was coming from. He said now there's a coolant leak issue, which they have refilled and he'd call me with an estimate but for now I could go. He called back later that day to say it would be $205 as they need to work on the lower thermal housing, new thermostat and gasket with a potential $105 more of it needs flushed. It would take a half a day. I made an appointment to have that done.
Today I took it in for that appointment. A couple of hours later I got a call that the work was done and rather than any of that which they talked about and pointed out to me directly, they decided the issue was the radiator cap, which they replaced and the total was $53.85. Now, I'm normally happy to have to pay less, but this is very concerning. How have three people in their shop changed their minds four times with wildly different prices?
I got there and expressed my concern but was assured there should be no more leaking. With my papers was a receipt for the part, which cost them $3.66. So I just spent over $50 to have someone screw a new radiator cap on!! Wow, that must have been some really hard screwing to get the cap on so that it took $50 worth of time! I think I'll stick to oil changes here. read more
