So, the Post Office is very clean, small, yet very efficient. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes and it would have been shorter, if I had my item boxed and ready to ship. Now that's some freaking dedication! Enough patting myself on the back, at least for now. I'll just tell you about the post office. I will tell you two different stories. One is true and one is false. You will have to figure out which is true and which is false. Story 1: I entered the post office and held the door for a native. Despite doing my best to be friendly, he still glared at me like he didn't like me. I get it, but I personally had nothing to do with it. I then waited in line where I discussed the best breakfast places in town with a poker dealer who happened to be in front of me. I sent my watch to a buyer without a problem. In and out within ten minutes. Story 2: I entered the post office to find two women standing next to each other in line in front of me. The one with the shaved head smiled at her tattooed friend with eyeglasses flirtatiously. I could immediately tell what was going on. The same shaved-headed chick then looked at me and smiled. I just nodded and said, "Hey." Not that kind of "Hey." More like a, "Hello, how are you?" Her friend then looked at me and smiled, and I began to wonder what was happening. Were they messing with me? It was their turn to take care of business at the counter, so I waited patiently to send my watch. When they exited, the bald-headed chick smacked her friend on the backside and laughed over her shoulder in my direction. When I walked up to the counter, I found a blonde woman waiting to help me--in Cherokee, North Carolina, which is an Indian reservation. I shifted my eyes to the departing lesbians, then back to her, and said, "What's going on here?" "What do you mean? It's a post office." All this time, I had no idea post offices were places where you could see and experience things so out the ordinary. I'm purposely going to the Huntersville Post Office instead of the supermarket to buy stamps tomorrow. I'll keep you posted!

Literally the worst post office ever. My mail person doesn't even try to deliver packages and…read moreinstead I get a notification that they "attempted delivery" but they're just too lazy to put packages in our apartment mail boxes. Instead they end up taking them back to the post office and if you don't go pick them up, they send them back!! I constantly get mail from other addresses, two packages never even showed up, and they never answer their phone. If I could switch postal offices I would. HORRIBLE!

Deliver it back to the Post Office. Maybe after delivering the same package to the wrong address many times they will learn. Maybe they won't. Hopefully they will. But for now, anyone I do business with online I ask if delivery is UPS or FEDEX, "How much will it cost for the delivery straight to my address and no SmartPost." I will pay extra whatever it costs just not to have to deal with USPS.

The line started to build and someone else came out. I had questions about my passport and she was extremely helpful. She gave me forms and an envelope to fill out and directed me on what to do. When I returned 15 minutes later with forms in hand I was assisted by a third woman working the counter. She was very personable and extremely helpful as well. Small post office in Asheville and I almost missed it because it's so nondescript--usually…read morethere's white and blue and you can tell it's a post office, but this one blends in to the point it almost made me wonder if there were some sort of zoning rules that required bland, cream colored buildings. When I stopped here there was one guy wearing a mask, and the other was wearing a mask but it was not over his nose one day and the next time I visited it wasn't over his mouth, either. It's in July so everyone has decided the pandemic is over, but if the USPS is still requiring masks, then wear them and wear them correctly--it's been over a year; we know how to do this by now. I wish I hadn't had to stop twice but they had these amazing The Art of Magic stamps that have HOLOGRAM RABBITS BEING PULLED OUT OF A HAT so I had to get more of them since I'd never seen them before! Anyway, it was quick and less painful than the post offices I usually have to use, so that I suppose was nice.
