The area for self service is much larger and well lighted. Everything you need is right there in self service, except the package they are holding. Lines are....lines. They move fast, I think more folks work the counter at this location than downtown. Always clean, and safely illuminated 24/7. Open all the time.

As soon as I saw the building I thought it reminded me of the old 1936 post office in my mother's home town of Pendleton Indiana. I wondered if it was from that same era, built by the WPA during the Depression. I asked the postal worker behind the counter and he said he wasn't sure but the employee next to him said he thought it might have been built about 1919. A a customer suggested I go outside and look for a Cornerstone which sounded like a good idea. Sure enough there was a stone outside saying that it had been built in 1917 so the employee was pretty close. I walked around the outside and then the inside, taking some photos. Everything from the bricks to the wood and the brass knobs was just beautiful. I told the employee they were lucky to have this neat Old Post Office still. He said he had thought about that more than once. I'm glad he appreciates it.

The PO Box service is all I'm using the place for anymore. I remember way back when they stayed open to 5pm. Perfect time for the working man/woman to get out of work and still get there to do busy. So now they close at 4:30pm, which doesn't allow for customers to get there to do business before the locked doors keep them out. There are other US Postal facilities in the area that ARE open until 5pm or later. So if you live in Burkburnett and work in Wichita Falls, look for the closest facility there. I don't know how many times I've sat in my car outside and see cars rush up between 4:31-5:00 and the customer get out only to find to a locked door. Seriously 10-20 people in that half hour daily. At this facility it's all about getting bonus checks for management.

Since they close early, I had to take off of work to go and ask for my collected mail. They were apologetic, for what that's worth. Recently, I've moved to a different address within Burk. I had mail forwarded to my new address, as did the previous owner. A month later, I'm still getting some of their mail and some of my mail is still going to my old address. Called the number and was put on hold for 56 minutes. Moral of the story is: This is what happens when the Federal Government takes control of ANYTHING.

If it weren't for the kind Abilene citizens that actually live a couple of blocks from my house that resent my mail to my address, I would have NEVER gotten them! Thanks for nothing!!!
