What happened to my Publix?…read more This store opened and was such a breathe of fresh air from the other stores that are around. Service was GREAT! You could always find what you need, associates were helpful, REGISTERS WERE OPEN, and prices are good. Fast forward six months. Sections of shelves are empty. The staff, especially newer folks, are surly and rude. Management is never on the floor. Registers are never open! Why are there three register and only two self-check registers open at 6:30 on a Sunday?! 5-6 people in line at each register and no one is willing to open a new register? Never in my life would I think that I would feel more welcome at Walmart than at Publix. Come on Publix. You're better than this. At least you used to be.

This is the second time this same employee has ignored me, showing an unacceptable lack of customer service. I had to wait until a female staff member came out from the back to get served. When I asked about the fruit salad, she assured me it was delicious. Unfortunately, the grape salad was completely sour, inedible, and a total waste of money. Between the unprofessional service at the counter and the poor food quality, I cannot recommend this deli counter or store. I just noticed the handwritten sign saying "mercado". I decided to drop in and check it out. The space is big and it looks like they are still in the processing of opening/setting up. There are lots of different latin products in there and a huge selection of kitchen stuff - huge pots, pans, etc. Everything you need to get started making a delicious latin meal. The produce - oh my goodness - I've never seen such an array of produce. All looking so fresh and so good. There were lots of stuff I didn't even recognize. They have a refrigerated area with cheeses, tortillas, pre-made items, etc. It also looks like they are putting in a big meat counter and maybe even some in-house prepared foods. I picked up a giant Asian pear and some tortillas (they only have one brand though - hope that changes) and headed towards the register. There they had a bin of fresh made chicken tamales for $1.50 each. I grabbed a couple and had that for dinner. Very good. These are more like central american tamales wrapped in banana leaves. The masa was very moist and thick. The chicken had a great flavor with a bit of spice. I can't wait until they fully open and have the meat counter and prepared food area open. Keep your eye on this place.
