More like 2 1/2 stars. Why are there not more associates bagging groceries? Getting used to bagging our own and I can do a better job. They can't be being trained. Eggs in the bottom of a bag with bananas n grapes on top. Bought some grapes the other day that tasted terrible. I returned them without question. Told the produce clerk about it, he could have cared less, he wouldn't taste a sample of what I bought. And didn't care if others had gone bad. The store has few cart returns. I was told it's that way because the associates would bring them out for you . I remember the days when they would insist on helping you out to your car. Can't now, not enough people bagging groceries to be able todo that. BTW i worked at grocery stores in High School, College, and part time for additional income when I was first married. There has been a problem with this Publix 1% milk for the past 3 months. I get mine through INSTACART and I have had to get refunds/credits 8-10 times at least. Even though the date is OK they still taste terrible, sickeningly sweet and spoiled. This has happened 2 times this week alone and I am so fed up with it. I can't believe I'm the only person noticing this. Has anyone else had this experience recently? Publix needs to look into this. Is it a refrigeration problem? Are they dated wrong? Have they been left out of the cooler too long before stocking? Is this a glitch where the milk is shipped from? I hope they will try to identify & correct the issue. read more

I really enjoy going to the store. It is clean. It smells good. The folks that work there are helpful. The check out clerks our polite and friendly. Today I had a really good experience as I had left the store with a cart full of groceries. This young man came up to me and said "I will be happy to help you unload your cart." I said, "you certainly don't have to. I usually say no, I don't need anything. But since you are outside already and you probably would like to bring my cart inside, why not?" This young man said, "it would be my privilege to help you. I really enjoy helping people. I would be happy to unload your groceries." I said, "how can I turn down your help?" He said, "I really love to help people and I am happy to help you." With people like him, the grocery shopping experience is very pleasant. read more

Said order would be ready at 7:10. we showed up a little early to check on our order and we were rudely told by a deli worker that it hadn't been started because it was scheduled for 7:10. I was called at 7:08 and was told that they didn't have the bread or other things to make our sandwiches. the man on the phone was extremely rude. we were standing at the deli and waiting for our sandwiches and didn't know we were standing there. he slammed the phone down when we were done talking and went back to making sandwiches with gloves that he had worn when he answered the phone. Absolutely the worst bakery ever, it's happened to me 3 different times and I have no clue why I keep trying! I've ordered a cake paid for it and every time I go to pick it up it's not ready. They have no idea or records of it even with receipt. They give me my money back but hey I NEED MY ORDER!!! So frustrating and there's always kids working! My wife and I came in on the 28th of March to pick up some subs and did not have a pleasant experience. We stood at the deli counter and were passed over by two associates and not acknowledged by the deli manager. When someone finally came to help (or so we thought), she began to help another gentleman who had just walked up to the hot food counter at the deli instead of us who she clearly looked at two times before assisting this gentleman while she was restocking the food. We began to become agitated and it started to show. That's when Hannah came to the rescue and saved the experience. She made the subs exactly how we preferred as if she could read our minds! She asked questions of preference every step of the way when making our subs and kept apologizing for the lack of attentiveness her coworkers displayed. She was a true professional and we will be calling ahead to ensure she is there before we buy subs from now on! Please go see her and have an equally great experience! I like my Publix. It is my go to for meat. About the only thing I can think for negative is it is expensive. I think there is probably a price to put on not going to Walmart though so it usually seems worth it. I also love their cakes. I spent twice the amount recently on a baby cake for one of my folks and a birthday cake. Totally worth it, they tasted very good and everyone kept talking about how much they liked them. They have a sushi counter, I prefer it to Food City, the stuff just tastes better and more fresh. They have beer they sell as singles. Since I have changed the way I go home lately I pass Publix every day so I seem to stop quite a bit now. read more

Plenty of parking. Great ADA access. Employees that are genuinely friendly. Wide, well-lighted isles. Clean restrooms, just to the right; up front. Repackaging available, upon request!! Senior discount on Wednesdays! Dreary rainy day. Soooo....may as well hit the grocery task. Been in a 'food rut' for a while. Knowing the exact isle/shelf doesn't make for a great deal of 'grocery experimentation'! I haven't been a regular shopper here for an extended time frame, and I wouldn't have made a change if it had not been for my previous grocery stop making a demographic shift in selection and quality. Now I'm wondering why I didn't make the change AGES ago? Would have avoided the afore-mentioned 'food-rut'! Publix: The isles are wide, which allows plenty of room for easing past the label-readers; not quite 'three-wide' - but close. (Think Darlington, not Talladega.) There's a wide selection of food and nonfood items, placed in the usual grocery-grid pattern. Pricing and unit info is well-placed and easy to read. Not only will an employee offer directions to an item, they'll offer to GUIDE you to the item! This is good, 'cause they often mention specials you've overlooked. This comment applies to both the golf-shirted stocker-sorts, AND the dress-shirt employees. About the 'repackaging' mentioned above: If you need three steaks and the package has five; NO PROBLEM! They'll happily repackage the 3 of your choice. Same with veggies! Wow! This store actually offers decent, freshly prepared sushi! I'm NOT a fan of grocery-store sushi (generally, it stinks!). I prepared to hold my breath as I walked by, but then I saw the sales counter: "Oh myyy!" Clean-clean-clean! Spotless, with a pleasant lady behind the counter who knew her stuff!! (Sushi, wasabi, and Kirin on an early autumn afternoon, as I write this review!!!). Why is it that far too many public businesses treat the human function of visiting the restrooms as an afterthought, or worse, an annoyance? Not so at Publix! They're in the front, so mommy, daddy, or granddad, can make a quick nappy-change for the wee-ones on-site, rather than driving home! And...Yes, Mr Grocer, even us old codgers need a spot for an occasional "pit-stop"! I remember when one walked into the grocer's -handed a list over the counter, and waited while a clerk pulled the items from the shelves behind the counter. Potatoes still had dirt on them; bananas were cut from a big stalk hanging from the ceiling. Fruits came and went with the seasons. What changes time has wrought! I love Publix! I have shopped in many other grocery stores over my lifetime and I keep coming back to Publix every time. This particular location is always clean and well-maintained. The aisles are well lit and it's easy to find what you're looking for. I can get through this store and pick up all my groceries in no time. Everything is well laid out and it just makes sense. I find that the produce is of really high quality. It lasts forever! I have found some real prizes here before, including Hawaiian direct pineapple. They always have a huge selection in their produce aisle too. I like to buy the pre-cut fruit in the plastic containers. They last forever too and taste delicious! If you've never had a Publix Deli sub, you are missing out. They are far better than anything you might find at a "fire department" or in an "underground train". These things are huge and taste so good. (Helpful tip: they have great Cuban sandwiches... these are pre-made and usually found in the deli case). If you like sushi, you're in luck! Head to the back of the store where Publix employs a sushi chef who makes fresh sushi rolls. I've had them a couple times and they rival some of the better sushi restaurants I've eaten at! The best part about Publix? The people. They are always smiling and helpful. Anytime I encounter a Publix employee, they are always smiling and willing to help you find things and answer questions. They will even take your groceries out to your car for you. And no tipping is allowed. You can bet that Publix is the measuring stick by which I compare all other grocery stores... and I'll keep coming back here all the time! I have to say. I always have a good experience at the Cassandra Smith Publix in Hixson but today was exceptional. i was at the store around noon. Not only was everyone friendly, they had an air of joy about them. From the people stocking the shelves, to the cashiers, baggers and even the butcher - everyone was helpful, efficient and happy. The ads run each Wednesday and you can see if they have anything that you like or need (buy one get one). Super clean store and helpful staff. Their customer service is excellent. There is no other grocery in my area that can touch this one. Our choices are so slim. Everyone grouses about the prices at Publix, but personally I'd rather spend a little more for high quality. Any produce I buy at the only competitors (Bi-Lo and WalMart) goes bad within a couple of days. Publix's stays fresh for at least a week. Far less waste = actually saving money. And isn't it lovely to be greeted by happy Publix employees who actually seem to LIKE their jobs? And are helpful? Guess what? If you don't find an item you have a hankering for, they will offer to try to get it for you! Now I can buy on a regular basis my favorite San Marzano tomatoes (and and half the price they sell them for at Green Life). Number 1 on my list is Publix, followed by Green Life. We ordered our wedding cake from the bakery. Delivery was prompt and easy. The cake was gorgeous and exactly what we wanted. We ordered a "1/4 red velvet sheet cake" just in case we needed extra for a guest. Publix turned it into an amazing Groom's cake. We cannot say enough good things about our experience! read more

Ordered a birthday cheesecake with writing. It was my impression that the cake would be uncut as I requested writing on it, otherwise, how can you write on it. Nope. They cut it into slices, then wrote Happy Birthday on a piece of clear plastic for me to put on top of the cake. It was absolutely horrible, almost comical. I had no time to get another cake and had to present this to my friend as is. This is the second time Publix has disappointed me and I should have learned the first time. I ordered a birthday cake for my son that was supposed to look like a skateboard half-pipe. The cake book they had, that I used to pick the cake from, had a really great picture. So grabbed one went to the counter to check out, the person in the check out was like we don't sell wine on Sunday, I thought if you guys don't sell wine on Sunday why display, just cover them with a sheet of cloth or something or put a sign that people don't get confuse, so they get a 2 star. read more

I will start by saying that I have always been a huge fan of Publix and was thrilled when they finally came to Hixson. The staff at this store are all super friendly, and the store is always remarkably clean. However, in recent weeks/months, there has been a noticeable decline in the stocking of products. On numerous occasions recently, I have gone to pick up a rotisserie chicken in the early afternoon, and none were on the shelves. Publix had the best steak selection in town, but recently that has changed as well. Often the selection now is very slim. Again, this is occurring in the early afternoon before the heavy after-work traffic occurs. On more than one occasion recently, they have been completely out of Mayfield's milk. (And no snow was in the forecast!) My husband even took a picture of the empty milk case for verification. In the early days of its opening, I would have routinely given 5 stars and would brag openly about my Publix Store, but something has definitely changed in the last year. read more

I have complained several times about the deli-------no response. They advertise their soup in the containers for certain days and yet no matter what time I get there(morning or night) they are out. I ask about it and the answer is always*I Didn-t know it was empty* Yesterday at 1pm there was only 2 out of 4 that had any soup in them.. Your employes in the other part of store are great,but the deli employes are useless!Is there a possibility that you could get a different manager? read more

By far my favorite supermarket, followed by Earthfare. The staff at the Hixson location are genuinely friendly. If there is anything I want that they don't have, they'll get it in for you. Once I asked for a brand of barbecue sauce that wasn't on the shelf and the grocery manager asked where I bought it last. When I told him it was at Bi Lo, he ordered it in and marked it 50 cents lower than Bi Lo. Publix produce is fresh and cheaper than Bi Lo. There's more variety of gourmet and organic items than Bi Lo. Plus their bakery is the best in the area. The Hixson Publix also has a very nice clearance area where you can find seasonal items and items no longer being carried marked down, usually at half price. The only thing I could ask for is they text me daily specials like Earthfare does (which I can't take advantage of because I'm usually not close by). read more
