As a child, my next door neighbors had three (3) United Cabs, and all of them were Checker Marathons. They had cab numbers 101, 227 & 475. The cool thing about cab number 101 is that it was the lowest numbered cab in the company, and from what I am told, it was the most desirable cab number in the fleet. But I digress. Even back then, I rarely had the need for a cab but I had a close relationship with these three cabbies and United Cabs is the only cab I have ever taken in those rare instances when I do need a cab. Like Yelper John L.H. stated, "If you have to take a cab in New Orleans, insist on United". Call me old fashioned, but when in New Orleans, I would always choose United Cabs over Uber and/or Lyft. They've been in business since 1938, so they definitely know the city. They have over 400 cabs and are also the largest fleet in the city. According to their website, " All Drivers are: Licensed FBI Background Checked, Finger Printed, and Drug Tested. All Vehicles are Equipped with Cameras. Unlike Uber or Lyft, United cab comes anywhere in NOLA and comes on time! They got cabs always waiting right at the airport! If you need cabs in the city and want to find one instead of call one, they like to wait at Harrahs casino. These drivers really know the roads and how not to get stuck. During Mardi gras; I rode with about 6 different drivers and they were all super nice wonderful folks! I took a taxi from the New Orleans airport, and the driver was so cranky. I could barely get him to understand where I was going. Then when I was coming back I called for a ride with plenty 30 minutes to spare. They said it'll be there at 1:30 and they called at 1:30 and said oh now it's gonna be 20 minutes later maybe. We were quoted a price of $27 to go from the West Bank to the Carnival Cruise dock. When we arrived at the dock my brother was charged $40. After the cruise we made the mistake of calling the same cab company. At the end of our ride, before I handed the cab driver my credit card, I asked what the charge would be. He said $40. I went ahead and gave him my card, but when I got my credit card bill, I had been charged $60 for what was originally quoted as $27. My advice is not to call this cab company at all--but if you do, get a price up front and pay cash. To their credit, I spoke to a man named Ron at their office and was able to get a $20 refund put back on my card. But not a lot of people would know to do this, or be willing to put in the time and effort. read more

I've used this Cab service twice a day six days a week for four years. During the day, I'm always pretty happy with them but at night it's absolutely horrible. I even tried to call dispatch five times tonight and they would not answer. I had to walk 3 miles home by myself in the dark night and a bad neighborhood Because they had no problem of not answering the phone calls.. I thought they were on my side, but they obviously are not. I've spent so much money on United Cab and as a bartender ive sent so many of my patrons to use them. I'm over it and I won't deal with it. This once proud local driver owned business has turned to crap. Drivers are completely unfamiliar with the city. Literally having NO knowledge of alternative routes., landmarks, or well known hotels. They also have a limited knowledge of English. Recently took 1 hour to go from MSY to central uptown as the driver had NO knowledge of Airline drive, Causeway etc. Followed GOOGLE on I10 to Claiborne (one of the most violent streets in NOLA) and then doubled back to the Tulane area of uptown. I had asked repeatedly for a precise price estimate and was not given a total but when I demanded to know... I looked up how much per mile online and saw 1.30 to which the driver said no it will be 2.50 which I admit was a little high but ultimately agreed because uber was doing a price surge due to demand. This incident occurred Tuesday 10/29 and it was a ride from airport to northshore approx 50 miles which calculates to 125.00 which was cheaper than uber 145.00. However when arriving at my home to be dropped off was told it will be 150.00 and when I said all I have is 140 in cash was rudely demanded I pay 150 and that it's not his fault I spent all my money. He said if I didn't have enough cash I could pay with a card but it's a firm $150.00. Not matching what the original quote formula states. Total scam!! Fuck them! read more

Driver charged $46 on a $36 fare using a square, not the in car terminal claiming it was broken. Told me the $36 rate was wrong despite being told it was the rate from the hotel, and despite it being on the car itself and being regulated by the city. Even with a bag fee and two bags that still only should have been $38. Thought maybe it was a rogue driver skimming and called the company to let them know about my experience but they hung up on me. Edit to add: Called back in, got the run around again. Told them that if I couldn't resolve the issue with them then I'd escalate to the city. Finally got in in touch with a Will who appreciated the heads up. Seems like maybe it was a driver issue and they'll handle internally. Adjusted from 1 to 2 stars. The ride was still not great and the customer service experience getting to this was less than ideal. read more

Used on arrival into MSY and, upon leaving the French Quarter, nabbed a cab dropping off. The driver was friendly and happy to take up to the airport as a hop in. He made a little small talk & pointed out a few things along the way. Prices were better, & it was more convenient, than the shuttle as we had 2 people. This was just before the full hit of COVID-19 & both drivers ssid things were kind of slow but it was business as usual and they were happy to be doing their jobs. Made an appointment for the airport and they never showed up. I almost missed my plane, but Uber came through. Another time, my parents like to support cabs so we called for one at the restaurant in the warehouse district to go uptown, the cab didn't show. Luckily, Uber came through. Final time Uber was surging due to KdV downtown. Figured I'd call a cab to get from uptown to Metairie for my kid's much anticipated Pokemon tournament. Again, cab never showed and ruined the night for the kids. I used United Cab so often growing up that its one of the only phone numberd that I remember from memory. We recently used the app to pay for a cab ride from Hilton Garden inn to the Airport which is a set fee of 36.00 for the cab compa ies per the city of New orleans.We made payment with the app and it charged us 40.00 plus an 8.14 tip which I never agreed to. When I asked the driver why it was not the standard fee of 36.00 he told me the dispatcher programed in that we were going to Layola University, not the airport. I was there when the front desk called the cab and she said the airport was our destination. The cab driver asked where we were going and I told him the airport. Yet they overcharged us. Reserved a van for my family to the airport on an early morning flight. When I made the reservation, they asked if I was paying by cash or card and I told them card. When we got to the airport the driver had no way of taking my payment and tried calling in to have them run it over the phone. Nobody could help this frustrated driver (not his fault) and j had to find an ATM inside the airport to pay him in cash. I would not use these services again, and will stick to Uber. read more

United Cabs This is the area's cabbie "co-op" and the largest service. Historically, their drivers were almost all natives, some retired police officers. Today, there are many muslims & other foreigners driving here, and for others. Requesting a Spanish speaking driver may help. United is the best of those available. Caveat: In Metro New Orleans, avoid "Patio Cabs". Tip: United Cabs does service the main airport; "Moisant Field", AKA "Louis Armstrong Airport"; BUT, one cannot get them from the cab line, one must call them directly. We try to pre-arrange pick-up's with United Cabs, as some of the "approved cabs" at the airport are just horrible. And I mean HORRIBLE! This is based on politics, as the airport is not in New Orleans or Orleans Parish; it is located mostly in Kenner, LA, in Jefferson Parish. Please take this as a warning from a local, and be advised. WE booked an earlyish United Cab to the airport the night before. When it became apparent that we would be running early, we called and spoke to a real, live person, who assured us it would not b a problem to move the time up. We got a robo call alerting us that the driver would be outside in 15 minutes, then a text 5 min later stating that he was there waiting! Dwight ( an amputee no less) was personable and friendly, and a safe driver to boot. It is unfortunate that his car was kind of dirty, and my son did notice that his license expired in 2019! Also, I assume because of his prosthesis, he did not get out of the car to help us with our bags. Still, I would definitely ride with him again. Seems like a nice guy. I wish him well. read more

To Whom It May Concern, On April 26th at 11:15 pm at the intersection of Iberville and N. Peter's while walking through an uncontrolled intersection my wife and I were nearly hit by a United Taxi Cab #1091. After coming to a stop the driver rolled his window down and stated "get the f' out of the street!" I attempted to inform him that we were in a pedestrian crosswalk to which he stated he did not need to stop because there was no stop sign for him. The driver then drove off yelling obscenities. I'm concerned for the publics safety that this commercially licensed driver does not hold the public safety of pedestrians to a higher regard that a professional driver should. Additionally a driver with this temperament is ill equipped to care for the safety of his ridership. At a minimum my hope is that this driver have his commercial license status reviewed. We were told over the phone they would be at our location in 5 minutes. They took 30 minutes to arrive. The next time we needed a ride we up loaded Lyft. Arrival times were with in a couple of minutes and a lot cheaper. You just lost a faithful cab customer. read more

It can be rather difficult to review a cab company based on a single experience so take this review as you may. I called United Cab on the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area since Uber is just getting established in New Orleans, the cab arrived within 5 minutes of me talking with the dispatcher. The cab was extremely clean and in good working order the driver very friendly and we were able to have a conversation with him during the drive. The drive through New Orleans mid day can be rather challenging with all the construction work going on but he seemed to work his way through the narrow streets without an issue. He picked us up on Jackson a few blocks east of Magazine Street and dropped us at the corner of Bourbon and St. Phillips for a mere $11.25 plus tip. It was a great experience and if this is like anything close to the normal way United does business I'm a customer for life. read more

My wife and I used this cab service while vacationing in NOLA. I liked that the cab service accepts all major credit cards. I don't like how the drivers state that they would rather you pay in cash. Shady. After calling and placing a cab request, we never waited longer than 15 minutes. Generally the wait was about 7 minutes. Often times though, it took me longer to get through to dispatch since the lines were always busy. Frustrating. We had one cab driver pick us up and stated that he needed to drop his current passenger off first. Wasn't a problem until he tried to turn the meter on for our ride at the current passengers drop off location. My wife firmly stated that the meter not be turned on until we were at our original pick up location. The cab driver did as instructed but was seriously miffed about it and called us "babies" as we exited. Cab fares rack up quick and we were not going to pay for and additional 5 blocks + standing time in traffic! I'm glad that I don't have to use a cab service on a daily basis. Cutthroat business. He called and United was there in 2 minutes. Guess they cater to tourist, locals be damned. BTW, driver was very friendly so I have to think it's dispatcher sending cabs out for hopefully big $$ trips to the airport. I'm disabled and felt completely helpless and abandoned. Our hotel called for United Cab so that 2 older women visiting New Orleans could go to a Christmas light attraction in city park. We only wanted to go if we could be safe. It was a cold night as well. The ride took forever because the driver scammed us into believing he couldn't find the entrance to the attraction. We rode around seemingly forever trying to find it - the cab fare was $25. As he was letting us out he said he was going off duty, but would help if we ran into a cab problem when we were leaving. He gave his name, Joe, and phone number on a United cab business card. When we did leave we called the same cab company to pick us up. We called them back after a half hour when no one came. After an hour and a quarter we were hurting from standing that long and we were freezing and desperate. I tried to call Joe with no luck; I am sure he only offered help to get a tip. my friend happened to notice an Uber dropping someone off and begged her for a ride. The driver figured the amount at $10! It was a 10 minute ride not a half hour ride. We gave her $20 for helping us. But we didn't know the area and we were scammed for it. I would absolutely avoid United Cabs, inc! I also told our hotel what happened so they would think twice about about using this company in the future. read more

Called this cab at 4 o'clock, i was told 15-20 mins. Waited literally an hour. I call back and The same person picks up and says 15 more mins. Firstly, if you have no drivers available. You need to be HONEST with paying customers. I personally don't mind supporting local drivers,but you're ultimately not communicative, and being up front about wait times. I am torn with UC. I have had good experiences and great drivers from the FQ to the airport when booking directly always $36, today I allowed my kind hotel host to book a ride for us... When we arrived at the hotel the cab was running late. No problem, we got our bags and waited outside. When our taxi arrived all was fine then our driver asked if he could pick up another couple around the corner. I didn't want to be contrary and we had time so I said ok. Saying ok was my first mistake, him not explaining the charge difference was his first. While we were waiting for the other couple, we realized we would have to get in the very back seats of the van, something I would have paid not to do honestly. When we arrived at the airport the man informed us it was 15 pp if it was 2-4 ppl. We expected to be splitting the fare from the FQ since we were asked if we would be willing to pick up another couple and the driver was offended enough to threaten calling the police. First of all this could have been handled at anytime prior by informing us of the inconveniences that we would experience by picking up other people and we would have opted for the private cab without the threats. I have used United regularly for yrs but just called and instead of the familiar and often warm voices that usually greet, I git instead a guy who sounds like he doesn't even live here, took forever just to spell a simple word, asked if I was using cash or credit (all cabs should and usually are equipped for both). He had my history and still couldn't tell where I was going. When the cab got to me, thankfully, he expressed that he was guvwn completely different destination than what I stated. The agent could not comprehend taking down my address for pickup. Repeated 3-4 time.
