Beware if you are just checking in your carryons to be a nice flight citizen and not fight for overhead space - their self checkin system is not good. It requests your checked baggage first, charges you, THEN asks if you'd like to check any carryon free of charge. You cannot get a refund, staff cannot help. So sadly on Christmas I have over paid for carryons that could have been checked for free, and was informed within minutes of checkin that the flight was delayed 3 hr. Guess it could be worse... it could have been cancelled completely on Xmas day. read more

Had a good experience flying back from Japan; service was sufficient and not over-baring. Business class sitting room was okay for a 6ft 3 person and plenty for my 13 years old daughter. On 9/21/2024 My husband and I had ordered First Class tickets through United Airlines. We were supposed to arrive in Denver before our next fight at 11:15 am to make it home in Albuquerque New Mexico by 12:30 pm. Due to what the pilot and airlines reps stated was a small hydraulics leak. We stayed on the plane on the tarmac for at least 1.5 hours. We then did not make it to Denver Airport until 11:07 approximately and the airline had already given our First-Class ticket seats away and expected us to be delayed at the airport 10.5 hours. The time given was now almost 9 pm at night. First off, I was injured with a boot on my left leg. This required me to receive wheelchair support. When we landed no agent was there to provide me with a wheelchair. Secondly when a 3rd party wheelchair company named: G2 Secure Staff, they didn't even want to push me around to get help to make arrangements for an earlier flight home. No United Airlines agent could tell me where my luggage was and what my options were other than the delayed 10.5 hours at the airport. The third-party employee tried to get us a rental not informing us that he would take us out of the secure location requiring us go through security all over again. Since I had a boot on this was a long tedious process. We had to beg the third-party company to leave us with a different wheelchair to get around the airport while waiting. After sitting for two hours on the phone with an agent. I asked her to put us on the standby list and we finally got on a flight 3:45 pm. We were still 4.5 to 5 hours late getting a flight. We didn't get home until almost 5:30 pm. Keep in mind Fargo North Dakota is 1 hour ahead of us, so we are waiting even longer with our time stuck on the first plane with mechanical issues. In addition, we were placed in economy when we paid for First Class and a refund was not automatically issued. They told us that we would have to fill out a refund request online and wait for a refund which could take weeks to get. We received a limited amount of support from United Airline Agents the whole time we were stuck at the airport. I feel if an airline causes you to miss your flight, they need to make arrangements to get you around to your next gate and on a new flight comparable to your first purchase. If they can't do this, they should pay to put you on another airline or pay for a rental car and hotel. They wouldn't even offer us to use their club to sit and rest in. All we were offered was 20.00 each for a meal voucher. Which is a joke at an airport. We also had to pay more for parking for a vehicle. Lastly, again I was told nothing could be done to help us until after we got home and filed a claim. This is how they take care of First-Class Customers and let's just say no customer should be treated this way. Did I mention all we were offered on the ride home was a glass of water. They stated due to turbulence that's all they could accommodate us all with a tiny bag of pretzels and some customers didn't even get this. I will say, to be fair, the turbulence was pretty bad but why not hand out the pretzels as we walk on the plane like they do hand sanitizer wipes. read more

I like flying United Express on the morning non-stop flight SFO-ABQ and back. It's fast, no extra charge to check in my carry-on-sized suitcase, and the employees have been courteous. When they had extra space, they also bumped my bf up to first class at no extra charge the last time he flew back to SFO after visiting me. (Note: he was dressed up anyways and had to inquire) Because I've flown mostly the Jet 700s, it's a different kind of boarding experience, as you get up close and personal with the tarmac. Proponents of single payer health care, listen up (read up), this applies to you too. What happens when there's no competition? Quality goes to hell in a handbag! Granted, there are still a few other airlines out there, but it's getting pretty slim, and I'm not a fan of United Airlines on several levels. The fact that with plenty of maintenance aircraft these days can last an easy 30 years is actually pretty cool, but for the love of goodness, retrofit the inside now and again, will ya? I took the dreaded flight to Korea recently and that's not a fun flight, I assure you. However, what would make it more tolerable is if they provided entertainment in the headrest of the seat in front of you like most foreign airlines have done for years now. Instead, United has the screens up on the ceiling of the aisle-way, which forces you to watch the same romantic comedy as everyone else is watching. Then to top it off, they only play one movie on a 10-hour flight! What gives? The Korea flight was from San Francisco, but first I had to fly from Albuquerque, which wasn't exactly fun either. They sell lunch now, which is just so cheap! It's actually offensive in my opinion. On the way back from Korea, the same old 747 again with horrendous entertainment options. However, the real glitch started with my arrival in SF. It was delayed, causing me to miss my connecting flight to Denver. So off to the service counter to see what they're going to do. They have two lines cordoned off, one for premier customers and one for us pedestrian folk, all seeing the same people behind the counter. So guess who gets called up first? Of course, they literally segregate right there in front of you. After an easy 10 people were called up even though I had been in line for seemingly 30 minutes I began voicing my disgust, which got the crowd behind me fired up as well and it wasn't pretty. Finally once I'm helped, I'm not helped much. Every Denver flight got me in too late to connect with my Albuquerque flight. Southwest Airlines had a direct flight to Albuquerque, but apparently United does not have an agreement with them, so the service person's suggestion, buy a ticket and see if you can get partially reimbursed later. Seriously? No, this was United's fault, so I'm not about to dip in my pocket. The person helping seemed to be new and though I don't have animosity towards her, the whole interaction was just painful. They ended up putting me in a hotel for the night and I finally got home the following day. On the flight from SF to now Houston, low and behold, entertainment in the headrest, however, you have to pay for it. Yup, swipe your card and you can watch something. Out of principle I abstained. In summation, given a choice, I'll pay extra for another airline to avoid ever flying United again. read more

Gotta fly with someone. Depending on where you go you don't always have a ton of options. Least internationally but United isn't the worst option. Economy plus is a huge increase over economy. Charging ports and extra legroom yadda yadda. Business and first get into the same category as everyone else. Into ABQ some mainline planes and a majority or express flights. Santa Fe is another option but much less flight options than ABQ. Generally poor reviews for Airlines end up being airport security which is out of their hands. Then maintenance and weather related issues. ABQ is a large airport though so any United employees customer service wise would be full United employees not people contracted out. Directs here to Denver. San Francisco has been happening more. Los Angeles is a regular. Believe Houston IAH from time to time. You do have other carrier options in ABQ but depending on where you want to go it's probably just AZ, TX, and CO. read more

Omg where to start. United Airlines has totally ruined a vacation my gf and I spent 3 years saving!. When we changed planes in Houston on our way from Albuquerque to St. Croix via St. Thomas, the stewardess told us they had no room for carryon bags and took our bags. The stewardess were rude and insulting. Then upon arrival we went to baggage claim to pick up our bags which never showed on carosel. Well yep you guessed it. They transfered our bags to the new plane but told us to get our baggage at the carosel. So the plane left us. United workers we talked to were the rudest people ive ever dealt with in fact telling my gf to shut up and stop being a bitch. I have never been so rudely treated in my entire life. Eventually the manager told us it was our fault and to leave the airport to sleep on the beach because she wasnt"dealing with our crap." Well, the cab to go 2 miles was 40$, the room we were forced to rent $257 and the airplane ride $200. UNITED airlines has done nothing to help us other than yelling, pointing and ordering us to shut up and quit bitching. Now we are stuck here with no money, food or drinkable water with no car to get to a reliable phone service or storesince the cabbies charged $100 to ride 5 miles. Thank you United Airlines for ruining a trip we saved for 3 years. UA should have comped us but as the lady said, "you on your on." Rude, barely veiled hostility or outright open hostility was their conflict resolution. We wi never use United EVER EVER EVER AGAIN AND IF YOU READ THIS AND USE THEM ANYWAY, DONT BE SHOCKED WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF "ON YOUR ON." I fly Delta and United only as a very last resort because of generally poor service. (Southwest is my go-to airline.) I don't know about Delta but United now has ZERO telephone customer service agents in the United States. The agents' accents are impossible to understand and they much prefer to talking over listening. It is no longer possible to be transferred to an agent in the USA. I was calling to cancel a trip to Barcelona because my wife is near death in hospital. I must remain with her as medical power of attorney. United's published policy entitles to a 100% refund in cases of medical emergency. They make this as difficult as possible. Greed = 100%, Sympathy = 0% Their first offer was to keep our $2500.00+ on account for a year against future flights. We are well into our 70s. Even if my wife survives, we are unlikely to fly internationally again. At the end of the year, United steals the money. "It's our policy!" Since when is theft a policy? read more

The one thing that I dislike about United is that if you fly out of SFO and have to use Terminal 3 it's a bus ride to get to/from that terminal. Ugh. And up and down the stairs, too. United had lost our luggage, ok, not lost, they were able to tell me where they were, and that was left behind at the airport where we had last changed planes. I do give them 5 stars because out of all the times we fly it's the first time it's happened. They gave each of us a temporary toiletries bag to get us by and the bags were delivered directly to our hotel for us 21 hours later. They refunded each of the $25 baggage fee charges online within about 24 hours after I filled out the form. Now wait - it didn't stop there because when my bag arrived at the hotel it was damaged... a wheel was missing and a hole in my hardsided Samsonite about 3x5 inches was in place of the wheel area, just the lining was showing. So when I called I was instructed to take the bag to the United luggage office at the airport, when I did I was told that they usually repaired (mine was obviously unrepairable I was told) or replaced, but I told them I just bought a new one so they were quick to give me a $200 ticket voucher which more than covered the cost which was very fair... So again I didn't have to go to any extremes to be compensated which is how it should be when these things happen- and that's why I appreciate United Airlines and give them a 5 star even when things go wrong. read more

They consistently did a terrible job on the 4 flights I took with them 3 weeks ago, so i guess thats something, they have a universal standard of being the worse in airlines and customer service. I think they should change their motto to "United, always looking for ways to always frustrate, dissapoint and treat our customers terrible!!" "United underdeliver, overcharge, never make exceptions and always talk down and be irriated with the customer" Starting with a simple phone call to reserve a spot for my dog I called United, the first terrible piece of news the cost is $300.00 one way to ship at 26lb dog, United makes no excuse for this cost, they know its outrageous and have zero empathy for the ridiculousness of the cost, btw Alaska Airlines charges $100 and often waves this fee if you have a poor experience or any trouble with your flights. I was informed on my first phone call that I couldn't reserve a spot for my dog because the layover was 2 minutes.... 2 minutes short of the required 60min time they require to place my pet on the next flight, but they couldn't help me change my flight, I had to call a totally different department before they could help with my reservation for my pet. As soon as I called the other department their information didn't line up and they didn't see the 2 min window of no return and stated I didn't need to change my flight, and so for the next 2 hours I bounced between pet department and human department to try and coordinate my pet and my travel. I finally got the flights all aligned, which resulted in having a 3.5 hour layover in denver so that the baggage people had enough time to get my pet into the next airplane. However it wasn't a 3.5 hour layover, because united sucks at everything they do, there were several delays and it ended up being a 6 hour layover, no apologies, no customer recovery or support, no opportunity to see my dog, no help, standard united encounter On my return flight, we loaded the plane as we always all do, and then we sat there, I started to notice that everyone was on the plane but no announcements were happening, and convienantly all the flight attendants were no where to be seen. We sat there for about 15 minutes and then the pilot gets on the intercom to tell us that the door handle to the airplane door is broken, that he has no idea how long it will be and that we can get off the plane, we ended up being delayed by 1.5 hours, with no apologies, no explanation, no customer recovery, It just left me with the expectation that United will do the bare minimum and money is there priority not the customer. The customer is always wrong, and the expectation is that they will underdeliver with no apologies everytime. I will never fly united again read more

All airlines delay their flights for one reason or the other. It's the #1 airlines that know how to double- or triple- screw you. I had been screwed by US Worst, Soutwest Worst, and lately Alaska Air. United claims it's the #1 on-time airlines in 2009. Now it's 2010... As it happened, my flight from ABQ to PSP via LAX at 5:52 PM on a Thursday was delayed for 40 min. It messed up my connection at LAX. The counter was initially understaffed with one agent and one supervisor. The supervisor was unable to check in flights but to direct traffic. He called up more helps soon after the screwed passengers getting inpatient and mad. Good job. The staffs were reasonably courteous like heaven and hell when comparing to my latest screw at Alaska Airlines. The supervisor has done a good job to calm things down. He explained the options well. He easily granted me a meal voucher of $15 at LAX without playing cat and mouse game (as in Alaska Airlines in PSP). The customer care at LAX has a slight hard time retrieving my meal voucher (I couldn't get it while in ABQ; the voucher is airport specific), but the rep was patient and she asked for help. So travelers, I've been flying United regularly now since my last screw at Alaska Airlines. It has not built up too many bagages yet for me. Still, fly at your own risks. read more

Still no issues with United Airlines over all, but on my most recent check in with United at the ABQ Sunport Airport, it was a little all over the place. The United desk is at the end of an area currently under construction at the Sunport (which is outside their control probably), but the staff working the desk, weren't really doing much to make this situation easier. It was unclear which line went where, and there were no desk or kiosks for people just needed to check in and print a boarding pass, which many people in the line would have like as they would have been getting through faster as a lot of us were waiting to drop off our checked bag. Hopefully as construction finishes, operations will smooth out. read more

While the staff at the service counter were polite, the fact that there were only two assisting customers when multiple flights were cancelled is the height of mismanagement. United management earned the low rating. Staff, in addition to being overworked and underpaid, are not empower to resolve cancelled flights. After waiting in line for 3 hours, including an hour at the desk while the staff checked in the new departing flight, we were told we had to call customer service in order to get a new flight. United will NEVER receive my business again. Adding insult to injury, United has managed to lose a bag that never got put on the airplane. We flew UA (regional jet) service from IAH to ABQ and back. The only issue was that our flight was delayed for weather - not a big deal. The gate agent Bobbie was absolutely fantastic. She found out that it was our wedding and went over and above to make sure that we were treated special. read more

After 12 hours of delays I also had to deal with a racist flight attendant on my way to Albuquerque, super overtly making nasty faces at me and being pleasant with white customers upon entering and leaving. Ok so these guys i generally enjoy flying with and havent had a negative flying experience. The one star is due to the fact that not only were our flights delayed yesterday(as was our connecting flight), but our luggage didnt make it either. I was too tired to deal with it last night and decided to wait till today, well that was a mistake because none of the numbers they have for baggage claim get me further than some automated BS which then hangs up without any information regarding delayed bags. I filled out the online form with all information and received no word back for a couple of hours(still havent at this time) but I needed my bags asap due to containing some items needed for work. I had to park in the garage a ways from the entrance due to little free parking and had a bit of hope they would validate my parking and lend me a trolley and or some help with my bags considering i had to pack a lot and they are fairly heavy. Unfortunately none of this was the case, the gentleman helping me was friendly and helpful but he was alone and had no equipment available to lend, nor was he authorized to validate parking. At the end of the day i realize none of this is that big of a deal but its the principle of the matter that really ticks me off. @united, fix your baggage phone numbers, have people manning your site to assist in a timely manner and or link airport baggage numbers in your website. If you cant make changes to better help your customers you will have lost my service from this incident read more

I have flown with United exclusively for more than a decade. I was trying to change my flight from a 7am departure to a 9am departure for the next day. It looked like all I had to do was pay $200 to change my flight but it turned out to be $600!!! I instantly clicked and called to try to get a refund but they said it would take 5-7 days to process when I call in the morning again to try and get help they said that I should go to the gate agent. Gate agent cant figure anything out and now its 850am and I miss both flights, have to stay an extra night and United does not compensate me for the flight change or the hotel I had to pay for. So I am now out $750 and united wont pay for it because it exceeds the cost of my original ticket. This is so outrageous!! I am never flying them again. This is literally the worst airline!!! I had a flight from Tokyo to Denver which was delayed because the jet was late . This caused me to have to catch a flight the next day , and btw the airport isn't 24/7 so I had to rent a sleeping pod in the BASEMENT of the damn airport . FINALLY get on my flight the Denver, get to Denver and my flight to Albuquerque I missed because the jet was late , yet again causing me to miss my flight . So they got me another flight for later in the evening , we boarded and what do you know delayed AGAIN because the pilot seat is broken. Fix the seat , oh now the freakin exit door is broken , and something wrong with the life raft on there . Do you guys even do pre flights before you board passengers ? Jesus fuck . Still waiting for this thing to take off so I can see my husband who I haven't seen in 3 months due to work overseas . It's taken me THREE FUCKIN DAYS just to get stateside . Last time I'm EVER booking with you assholes . And no I don't want a free flight when your jet is breaking down before even starts up .
