In a few sentences, this is a space dedicated to making you feel good about yourself. The downstairs apothecary is filled with herbs, tinctures and crystals to help you with any ailment. Upstairs, there's a simple and beautiful space for styling but at night you can find a variety of health and wellness classes to appeal to any age or background. I booked with Michael and, when work meetings ran over, called to explain I was running late and specifically asked whether I should still come. I was told yes. No one told me that my services or pricing would change. When I arrived, I was told I could only receive a basic haircut and a few face framing highlights, a small fraction of what I had originally booked. I said that was fine, but asked what it would cost. I received roundabout answers and had to ask three separate times before finally being told I would be charged $417, the price of my original, much more extensive service. I left without receiving any service and was charged $417. But the most upsetting part was how unkind the experience was. I work a demanding job in DC and was trying to handle the situation responsibly. I called ahead, explained what happened, asked what I should do, and followed their direction to come in. Anyone working in this city knows that meetings run over. I was not asking them to ignore their policies. I was asking for basic communication and consideration. Instead, I felt like I had to repeatedly push just to get a straight answer about what I was being charged. That lack of transparency, and especially the lack of kindness, was incredibly disappointing. There are plenty of professional, transparent, and genuinely considerate salons in DC. I will be going elsewhere.
