It's a train station that is walking distance to all things in DC. There are a lot of shops within the station that you could definitely stay in there for a few hours. Security is there and active.

After leaving Baltimore our last stop was at Union Station before reaching our final destination. This bustling stop had conveniences such as a variety of restaurants such as Cava and Starbucks for travelers to fuel up for a good price. Although many people were coming in and out the space was fairly clean.

I've never been on a subway before but this place was clean. The trains were clean. Maps to tell you how to get around. The employees were helpful.

Loved the food options and there is shopping as well. It is a bit chaotic but well organized for Lyft pick up and drop at from. 3rd lane to pick up and 2nd lane for drop off. Food: -the Asian food was delish and a lot. - the Chelsey chicken blt was good and large - pretzels was so disappointing. I got the small cinnamon sugar for $8 and it came with 7-8 small pieces. They were very hard and stale.

The train station in Washington DC is a beautiful and clean place with great AC. It's safe and has a lot of shops and great coffee (blue bottle) that you can pursue before getting on a train. The train itself is beautiful and clean too!! I was so happy to find a newer Aceleca train. It's on time for the most part and just gorgeous. The journey itself if you take the fast train is fast and smooth to NYC or Boston. Much shorter trip than flying and way cheaper than flying and driving too!

Heart the architecture.

I heart old architecture, so I made it a priority to visit Central Station that opened in 1907. I was amazed at how grand Union station is when we exited our Uber ride. I felt safe here since there were national guardsmen strolling the station. There are 30 eateries here and we ended up having lunch at Shake Shack, indulging in ice cream at Van Leeuwen, chocolates from Laderach and coffee at Blue Bottle Coffee. I like how the station also has 30 retail shops. Happy I visited Union Station and I recommend seeing this architectural marvel.

I wasn't as impressed with this station as I was expecting. I think I've always heard about how big Union Station is so, I was expecting something like New York City but this isn't anything like that. They did have a pretty nice selection of shops inside and the trains ran smoothly and I saw a few older sections that looked like they had some nice/grand elements remaining and I loved using the metro to get around DC straight from Union. Having our toddler, this was hugely helpful. The restrooms were atrocious and extremely small, cramped and laid out oddly. I had my my toddler and we needed to change her diaper and the way the changing station was mounted beside a narrow hallway of restrooms and directly beside the faucets meant I was blocking something no matter where I was standing to change her. Some decent food and snacks and shopping before and the train boarding process went much more smoothly than our Norfolk departure (chaos). Would 100% ride the train again though - price is reasonable and it's far more enjoyable than driving and fighting traffic and parking in DC.

Union Station is about what you would expect for a large metropolitan train station. It is relatively similar to an airport, only smaller and more run-down. There are plenty of small shops and cafes or restaurants that you can stop by and grab something to eat or drink before you begin your trip. Overall, this station is good, it serves its purpose.

My first time here as a passenger, and I loved my experience. 1. Amtrak train services are great. 2. All bus services are also arriving and departing here 3. Rental car companies all have their business here as well. 4. Lots of fast food and Starbucks like services available. 5. Bathrooms are clean inside the building. Don't use the ones by the rental and/or bus pick up if you want clean bathroom! 6. Everything departs on time. Don't be late! and enjoy your journey!

What a difference! Train station is shining., absolutely spotless. The old beauty is stunning Bustling depend on the hour. (Take the Acela, not the regional New Jersey,ok?)

Walking in to the lobby of Union Station really amazes me. It's clean and wide open. Tourists really get a kick out of the decorations. We usually take the Amtrak from this location. It's convenient, again, I say clean and the staff is friendly.

Came here during my staycation in D.C. Union Station is about a 45 min. train ride from Baltimore and is a great option for travel there without the hassle of driving and paying some of the highest parking prices in the area. It serves as a hub for transferring to the DC Metro or other Amtrak trains that go to your chosen destination. Union Station has a variety of shops and eateries that are pretty decent )Taco Bell, Chick Fil A, Uniglo clothing store,Walgreens, and others). Service was ok and we didn't have to wait a long time in the line to get a bite to eat. The architect is old glam reminiscent of the grand train stations of the past. Tall columns, marble flooring, and the majestic corridors that take you from one area to the next. They have self serve kiosks and there is also a kiosk where a live agent can offer assistance. All in the hustle and bustle is what you would expect for a busy train station. I enjoy taking the he train to destinations when I don't want to worry about traffic and parking and Union Station is a great hub to transfer between trains to get to your destination.

7/10/2026 - central hub to the metro station with food in the lower foyer and an impressive hall. Easy to use and clean. Wolfgang is in the 2nd floor to eat. 5 stars.

How hot and humid does it get inside during the summer? I'm attending a black tie event here in May and not sure what to expect temperature-wise. Thanks!

Are there any places to eat in the station after 10 at night?

Should be a few venues still open. But I am not positive

Is it safe around 11 pm for a woman?

I have been around Union Station late at night. When I take metro I carry less items in my purse but I have never had an issue feeling unsafe or worried. Be alert and walk near lighted areas. There are usually visible security guards around.

The food court has a number of fast food options, but you'll need to walk around nearby for better-than-fast-food. The one thing that annoyed me was no directory! None of the boards that should've been directories displayed any kind of map. The one thing I love about the DMV area is that the malls are still thriving. Not to the point where every single store is filled, but no where near dead mall territory. I had some time to kill before I had to head back home and wanting to pick up some items. Parking here had me. I wasn't sure where would be the best place to park. I ended up in the outdoor lots and didn't even want to mess with the parking structure. As a note, early here means you will encounter a slew of parents with their children in tow. Be careful and mindful in the parking lot as they will be everywhere. The mall had a bit of everything in here. The typical anchors and national chains you would expect to find in a mall. Food court area was jammed with eateries and customers. I opted to not eat here. Would definitely come back. Especially on a lazy day. Good people watching, enough stores to grab whatever you might be thinking of getting, and ample parking.

I think what happens is that I mindlessly walk through here as I use it as a passageway. I need to start paying attention to what is in here and keep note of it. Basically this is a mall. Like every mall just about everywhere, they are without some businesses. But, I will say this about the DMV area, even with some shops being empty, the malls still know how to draw people in. Even if it is just for the food options. This place has a ton of food options and some of the places in here are the only place in DC to find them, or at least a place where it is fairly easy to get to in order to visit the business. They got the run of the chains you would see in almost any food court. This is one of the only places I have seen a Church's Chicken in the city. It can be a maze walking through here, especially if you arrive via Metro. But like I said, it is a great passageway to get yourself to areas without having to be outside. With the Spy Museum on the one end it's a great place to spend a day in the city. The Wharf not too far either. There are a few shops throughout as well. Mostly open during daylight hours if you need to grab a thing or two. I also got an overpriced $40 onesie @SOL, the material was very soft and made in the U.S. In terms of the hot chocolate stalls, the Truffle stall and the S'mores N More are my favorite. The Marshmallows are gigantic and should have mixed them in! I got a pack of 6 marshmallows and picked out the flavors - Rainbow, Cookies and Cream, and Toffee Marshmallows. The Churros with Dulce Leche filling are a must - I always get the every year! Kudos for being a long-time vendor! The Dirty Habit Chalet boozy is a bit gimmicky. And each year I always end up bypassing it because after a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is be jammed in with a bunch of other people going from booth to booth. I finally took the time to visit here and probably picked one of the worst times to visit, during a hockey game. With the influx of people coming into the area for the game and the arena right there, it made navigating to and through a nightmare. The downside here, and it is probably the only downside, are the amounts of other people. They will do one of two things. One, forget about their awareness to where they are. By this I mean that they will forget they are not the only person here at the holiday market. Two, the other people will either push you along, or walk at a glacial pace. Jamming up crosswalks and entrances to the main area. Two things you cannot control and you just have to go with the flow here. I will say it is lively and welcoming. Once you do make it into the stall area you will have to take your time to sift through what there is to offer. From gifts to food, you can find it all here. Live music is a usual draw as well which lends to the magical feel that you are in the middle of a DC street and don't have to worry about a thing. All of the vendors are local, so this is a big shop small venue. Offering you everything you can think of as a gift for a special somebody. Definitely worth a look around the holiday season.
