Almond crusted chicken tenders
Jen I.

Recently visited this location for lunch with some coworkers. When I looked at the menu, I swear that EVERYTHING looked appetizing! I zeroed in on a few choices (the Candy salad sounded delicious) but ultimately went with the almond-crusted chicken tenders & fries. The serving was huge! Definitely worth the price (~$16). The chicken pieces themselves were a pretty good size, and they didn't skimp on the almonds either. The fries looked amazing....but were unfortunately 100% oversalted and were kinda ruined. It didn't stop me from eating them in hopes that I would just get used to the saltiness, but that didn't happen. Shame. Killer Chicken sandwich looked tasty in person, and I do like the ways that they plate the food. The service was fine and the space was large and felt good and bright. I would definitely visit again and try something else on their attractive menu!

Union Social Eatery is located in what I can only describe as a stripmall / office type complex on the north side of Eglinton between Spectrum Way and Satellite. This side of Eglinton is recessed from the main road because of the dedicated MiWay bus roadway. It is however directly across the stripmall where Palmyra, Tim Horton's and Planet Bowl are if that helps anybody find it. Because it's sort of away from Eglinton it's not as easily found I'd have to say. Honestly for somebody that is not really looking it's sort of hard to see and find. When going to Union Social in the past we've always gone to the one on Financial but that area is really crowded. This area I don't really know what it's called and I don't live very far away, Matheson Airport Business park? The immediate business complex I believe is called Spectrum Square. There's lots of offices in the area because of it being an airport business park and for dinner on a weeknight it was still busy enough. Union Social from my previous visits to the Financial location seemed pretty lively, energetic and filled with good times comfort food. This place is really no different but just seems a bit quieter. I ended up just going with the haddock and chips. I wasn't feeling a burger which is what I usually order when going to Union Social but the food here has pretty much always been good and the service was also friendly and attentive. The servings are pretty generous. The plate was quite filling and for a place that doesn't necessarily seem to specialize in anything in particular the fish and chips was good. I used Open Table to make the reservation and that was easy to do and convenient since we were so close the table was booked barely half an hour before arrival.

The menu leans fusion, so there was a lot to try, and overall it felt like a fun place to share plates and compare notes with the table. The cocktails definitely stood out for being stronger than the usual lighter, sweeter drinks you get elsewhere, and the smoky cinnamon one was probably the most memorable. For appetizers, the beef tartare with bone marrow was the clear winner for me. The tartare tasted bright and fresh, and the marrow was rich without feeling greasy. The mussels were also enjoyable, mostly because they were fresh and sat in a creamy broth that made the whole dish feel comforting. We also tried the octopus with pumpkin purée, which had a nice chewy texture and a lovely sweetness from the purée, although a slight charred taste came through more than I personally wanted. For mains, a few dishes landed better than others. The ribeye with chimichurri was one of the stronger choices, tender, properly cooked medium rare, and especially good with that sharp, herbaceous sauce. The ribs were also very tender and full of flavor. The salmon in puff pastry was enjoyable enough that I would order it again, even though the pastry itself was a little softer than I expected. The udon carbonara was decent and comforting, but probably not the most memorable thing on the table, and the signature chicken had flavorful meat even if the rice leaned a bit too soft for me. One small complaint I kept coming back to was the bread, which tasted more charred than I like. Still, Wilcox feels like a nice little spot for a relaxed dinner with drinks, especially if you go in the mood to share, explore the menu, and order a few of the stronger dishes.

The fish and chips were overdone, I have never had fish a much deeper dark brown than the fries, which were golden. The fries were way-oversized potato wedges, which don't work well as fries. The tartar sauce and pickled cabbage were delicious along with the mushy peas. My girlfriend had the Cobb salad with chicken which was passable but not special. I was immediately impressed when I walked inside, as the place has plenty of cool decor and boasts a dimly-lit feel that I find irresistible. As I scanned the menu, I was eventually drawn to the Bramble Burger ("House ground, Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Bramble berry relish"), which comes with fries. And I feel like I made the right choice because it's one tasty hamburger. I wouldn't rank it with the best in the city, but all the components were right on target and I enjoyed the heck out of it. The fries were great, too. I don't know why it took us so long to check out Bramble Gastropub, but I think it's safe to say we'll be returning sometime very soon.

I was in the port credit area and was looking for a…read morerestaurant for dinner. I discovered Nomads and took a look at their menu. What a cute concept since Nomads are a member of a people having no permanent abode, and who travel from place to place. Their menu is exactly it they have food from Thailand, Indian, Cuba, Mexico, Italian, Japan and etc. I was super excited to try this place. When I tried to make reservations online you get an email after completing the form that someone would call you but no one called me so I wasn't sure If I had reservations when I arrived. The place was empty so it all worked out. When I tried to call the restaurant when they opened several times it goes straight to voicemail. Reservations process is not great. FYI- the restaurant turns into a club/lounge with security at the door after 10pm. Ambiance: It has a modern feel with a lot of high top tables a bit hard to get up. Restrooms are unisex which I'm not accustomed to yet. But it's clean. Service: There were several waitresses serving us. One particular lady was in training and was super nice to us and always coming to ask us what we wanted. If all the stars were based on service I would give them a 5/5 such friendly servers! Food: This is when it all went downhill unfortunately. I had to take off 3 stars for the food since the main reason I'm there is to eat. We started off with the tempura shrimp hand rolls. The tempura batter was tasteless and was not crispy like the way tempura was supposed to be done. It was more heavy battered like fish and chips. The rolls itself only had the tempura shrimps, avocado, and a huge chunk of wasabi secretly hidden that my friend nearly choked on! Lol overall not impressed and very plain. We had to drown it in soya sauce to get some taste to it. One of our mains was Pad Thai. I can make Pad Thai better at home and I can't cook! It was flavourless and too much tofu that tasted rubbery. The chicken pieces were huge. We joked that they got lazy and just threw the chunks in the pan. For $20 the portion size was so small and the flavour was bland. Stay away from this dish! The other main we got was the Cubana sandwich with the kettle chips. The chips tasted a bit stale and almost like plantain chips. The sandwich itself the bread was soggy with some weird sauce and the meat was dry what a weird combo. For dessert we had the key lime pie and I would have to say it was ok. I've had better but it wasn't bad. For drinks the white peace sangria was a bit watered down. All in all if you come for drinks the ambiance is nice, but food wise it fell flat. Service was excellent! We tried a few dishes and none of them were good. I really wish I would like this place since I was so excited about the concept. I probably won't be coming back again for dinner maybe drinks when it turns into a club.

We have the cauliflower bites to start as an appie. They were very good. My main was the chicken fingers & fries. The fingers appeared to be the cheap ones out of the box!? On the upside, our server Simone was very nice, however. I've observed that lately restaurants aren't serving the ketchup in the bottles as before. Now you're limited to little cups of ketchup. I don't know about you but I'm NOT a fan! This place was too mediocre to warrant a higher review or another "go out on a snowy night visit" again.

This was first on our list, located in the Scotiabank Tower on Adelaide. We got a nice corner table, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, not too loud but not library-like either. The music, mostly UK fare like their cuisine, played an acceptable volume that my friends and I didn't have to raise our voices. We were seated very promptly, and our server took care to attend to my friend's allergy. She even asked to change my friend's cutlery when another server brought the wrong salad. My appetizer was a hot-smoked salmon pâté, which was ok by itself, but eaten with the pickles gave it that taste I wouldn't forget. I chose for my main the Petit Roast Dinner; the cut was excellent, full of flavour and juicy to boot. The gravy for said cut just brought the roast to another level. The sides were delicious as well, especially the crispiness of the potatoes. A clean plate was the end result! Finally to finish the meal, I chose the chocolate banoffee cheesecake - I never pass on any cheesecake when it's offered. And it didn't disappoint! The banana brûlée was an interesting touch, while having toffee sauce drizzled on the cheesecake was a first (and not definitely last) for me! All in all, it was a nice introduction to The Rabbit Hole, and I can't wait to go down there again!
