The Los Angeles Metro area supports both Uber and Lyft rideshares (among others). I've found that…read moreLyft is usually cheaper to/from the airport. But as I was flying back from Portland, noticed that Delta Skymiles and Uber had a promotion giving 30% off (up to max of $20, only available on the flight) on one's next Uber Reserve Ride. As often happens when I have time on my hands, decided to try something new. It turned out well. Last year, Delta stopped their partnership with Lyft and implemented a new one with Uber. Requiring a sign-up, airport rides on UberX gives 1:1 Sky Miles for eligible spend (a mile is worth a penny). An Uber Reserve gives 3:1 miles (which I later found out, as it posted to my Delta account very shortly after ride finish). Since Delta provides free wi-fi on eligible flights (including this one), was able to read more about it. Clicking on the 'Claim Now' button, took me directly to the Uber app, preloaded with the 30% off offer. I then entered Delta as the airline, and it let me choose my correct flight from Portland (it would have been supercool if they had prepopulated that). It calculated the pickup time based on it's flight information. After choosing DTLB as my destination, it gave me a quoted price for the one-way ride. The app also clearly stated that there would be no penalty for cancellation as long as it was done one hour before the scheduled time. The driver would wait up to one hour after scheduled time in case of delay. Once I booked, it gave me the name of the driver and car while I was still in the air. Picking up a rideshare or taxi at LAX is normally a pain in the ass, requiring one to take a very slow LAX-IT shuttle to the rideshare lot near Terminal 1. My wife and I usually walk to it, but that was not possible with my mother-in-law. And I always wait till I get to the lot before calling for the car (often meaning a significant wait during busy times). [Tried once to do it from the bus and ended up being charged a hefty wait fee because the car ended up coming very quickly and our bus didn't]. So I was most likely going to order a Lyft Black (which does curbside pickup at LAX, but at usually double the price of normal Lyft) once we got our luggage. So I was pleasantly surprised when the price (after discount) came under $100. We landed about 20 minutes early, and ended up meeting up with my son-in-law and daughter (as they were flying back to Seattle). After the short visit, and as I was headed towards baggage claim, got what looked like a soliciting call originating from SF. Ignored it, but then got called again. This time I picked up, and it was our driver, requesting that I hit the 'Ready' button on the Uber app once ready to be picked up (he later told me that he could not see me until I did that, but knew my plane had landed and was worried that I was waiting). The app chose a spot for the pickup, but I texted the driver to change it to a closer pillar. It took about 12 minutes for him to get us for pickup, and he was more than considerate to make sure everything was good. Once on our way, it was the same as any rideshare ride, being able to follow where we were and the ability to give a driver tip. We had a huge Chevy Suburban which was more than enough space. It ended up being a very pleasant ride right to the door of our building near downtown Long Beach.

I complained but they only gave me 12 dollars refund I had to reorder and it cost me 26 dollars to eat. I researched a couple transport options and different car companies before settling on Go Ride as I…read moreneeded to transport 3 kids which all required a car seats as per California Law. Uber car seat didn't seem to be a reliable option and ride hailing services required a super far transfer to another pickup location. The bus was also triple the time to our destination near the cruise port. Go Ride was very clear about their pricing and they were detailed when answering a follow up question I had about pickup time which was fortunate as our flight ended up getting in 30 mins earlier than scheduled. Our driver, Oscar, arrived early to pick us up - I received an iMessage from him before landing using my airline's in-flight wifi - I was able to send him updates as we got off the plane and got our bags. He pulled up within 5 mins of my last message when we had our bags conveniently right outside the terminal. It was so easy I didn't even need to rent the $8 USD luggage cart and my kids didn't have enough time to complain about any wait. Oscar was really helpful with our bags and had all the car seats already installed correctly! All seats were facing the correct direction, solid, tight and the only adjustment needed was for the actual seat belts themselves to secure the kids. Oscar offered us bottles of water and we were off to the hotel. On the way we had a nice chat and he was totally OK with the youngest child crying for a bit while navigating LA's notorious traffic (he said it was light but to me it was busy). Drop off at the hotel was smooth and we tipped in cash for great service - he impressed us! Definitely would recommend to anyone especially families looking for a smooth experience getting anywhere from LAX airport. I will be using them again for future travel. Pricing: reasonable and competitive for door to door private car service with car seats. Communication: from booking to actual day of it was the right amount of detail Quality: car and car seats were super clean Safety: our driver Oscar was safe while navigating LA's freeway and street traffic. Car seats were properly installed and well maintained. Convenience: Door to door service was amazing and easy - I had bags but didn't require a luggage cart at all. Time saved = more relaxation time = less whiny little ones Thanks again Oscar and Go Ride!

Return is from 3:15pm to around 8pm if there's no traffic. These include a 20 minute stop halfway in Barstow Station. It's cheaper than a flight I get to avoid aiport TSA hassle. Pros: - Comfy seats and always a nice clean bus - Free drinks and snacks form tour guide person, often an old russian lady who likes to tell jokes that are hit-and-miss. - Free checked bag service where the bus driver can store roller bags in the under-bus compartment (although I just carry my small duffel bag onboard and tuck it under the seat) - Two free movies on overhead screens - Now there is assigned seating so no more needing to rush to get in line early to grab preferred seats. Cons: - No longer provided free earbuds to watch the movies. Bring your own standard jack earbuds or else they charge $3 to buy one. - On one trip back from LV the bus broke down, but they got another bus out for us in less than 30 minutes to continue our trip. - The free Wifi can get spotty at remote locations in the dessert, probably not good enough for continuous video streaming.

One of the 3 buses "broke down" en route to pick kids up, but chose not to communicate this until all the kids were waiting in the hot sun, on the asphalt to be picked up. Didn't send another bus, didn't try to solve the problem... Just seemingly didn't care. Unbelievable. Do NOT recommend.
