I give the Union Dairy 5 stars due the nostalgic experience when visiting this historic ice cream shop. The ice cream is good. Service was great considering how busy they were. I love that it hasn't changed over the years.

Delicious ice cream at a very cute place, right next to the Lincoln and Douglas debate Square. There's a nice statue of those two men in the Square. But meanwhile, back to the ice cream, I am allergic to dairy, so I had lemon sorbet with hot fudge. It was delicious. And all of my traveling companions loved their ice cream's.

Besides Mrs Mikes potato chips and Cannova's, this is the only other "must have" in Freeport.

Great ice cream, and fantastic setting. It feels like stepping into a 50's restaurant.

Poor customer service. Locked the doors on several customers before closing time. Same ice cream you can buy at the grocery store

Love this place. A single dip here is like a triple dip elsewhere. Be prepared to wait in the evenings and weekends. It's very busy.

This is the world's best banana split. Although the almond joy sundae is a close second. I look forward to them opening in the spring

My memory is that everything else was a la carte - and the side dishes were overpriced. Stopped by again in December of 2025 - delightful experience! Rick had a burger with LTOP (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) and I greatly enjoyed the Three Little Pigs - so much deliciousness wrapped up in one sandwich! Service was great. They have lots of seating - but no televisions for watching sports. Will definitely return.

The place had a few tables filled when we arrived. We placed our order and waited. A few more tables filled. A few tables left. We waited. And waited. And waited. We watched as the tables nearby got served - even though they came after us. A query to the waitress and she responded - yours are next. Then we get 4 of our 6 orders. And waited for the other two. The. One of the orders was not cooked fully, so she then waited. Did I mention it took an HOUR from order to first delivery, and then longer for the two chicken sandwiches, then longer for the re-fire on the under cooked burger. The burger I had was good but in no way worth any type of wait. And the place wasn't even packed!! Good burgers and onion rings. EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE. And really not attentive for a small town restaurant. I would pass on this place. It's good but not worth a trip out of the way, nor worth waiting.
