Previously, you would have to tag out upstairs but people were following others outside the fare gate evading the fares. That being said, being in a closed environment can be dangerous at night if someone is following you in that path and up to no good, in that case use the regular escalator / steps for a safer path of exit.

If you work downtown and live in the RiDi, you better get to know these buses, or you'll just be the chump on the regular 31 Balboa/38 Geary that gets the hour-long, reasonably stinky and ghetto tour of the city on the way to work. The 31 AX ain't great (I rarely get a seat in the morning, and some broads refuse to move to the back of the bus when it gets crowded), but it sure beats the regular 31 Balboa. FYI, the 31AX starts at the beach near the Safeway and the "Last local stop" is Balboa and Park Presidio. The next stop after *that* is Sansome & Montgomery. Not bad, right? Here's the weird thing though: I'm on the morning (and often evening) 31AX buses, with the same people, almost every day. All of us are going to our jobs in the FiDi or home to our bitchin' flats in the RiDi. I know half of their names since they all wear their hoity-toity company badges. Okay, you work for yahoo/stubhub/charles schwab! you're-so-fucking-cool-and-employed. We get it! But none of us ever talk to each other, even though we often see each other twice a day. It's a little awkward, like the elephant in the living room, or however that saying goes...

Tough, it's a bus. It's schedule varies by 5-10 minutes each day? I have no problem when I use the Muni tracking app on my phone. Bus drivers may occasionally slam on the breaks or whatever. Well again, it's a bus. WTF. The only bad thing I have ever seen is a few times at the last stop at 8th, the bus driver would not pick up people waiting. Honestly there was room and I think she should have let them cram in. Otherwise, it's a fast and efficient way to get downtown. The clientele is a bunch of stuffy honkies, however that beats the "unpredictable" nature of other bus lines. So really, there is nothing not to like. If you can't tolerate this bus line then you should move out to Marin and drive to work, because it ain't getting any better than this.

Once were on the buses the drivers have been helpful and we see notice of what the next stop coming is. We bought a clipper card for a few days unlimited at Walgreens. The sales clerk wasn't too knowledgeable nor helpful. The visitor center so does how to upload it to our wallet and now were using our phones to pay for transportation. It took a couple of tries before we were able to work the app properly. Would love to know how to play the passes want to wait at the stop. Also sad some are camped & living at the bus stops.

It's no surprise to see traffic when traveling on Fell / Oak Streets. This is an excellent route. Also, an answer to that better commute. I wanted to go Sheng Kee Bakery on Irving St and 21st Ave. But I didn't want to get on a route that makes every stop along the way. Route 7x Noriega Express became my answer. This route got me straight to 23rd Ave and Lincoln Way from Fell St and Gough St in 20 minutes. With traffic, roughly 25 minutes - 30 minutes. I like how they have 40' and 60' buses in service on this route. It truly is an excellent way to alleviate crowding. It would be really nice to have midday and weekend service on this route. Or at least, a similar route gets placed in to service using the same path this route uses when it's not in service.

I hopped on the 7X on Friday, July 6th a little after 5:30pm. I've taken the regular 7 before and this bus is so much better. It skips the entire Haight part and goes straight down Fell which is a lot faster. (It doesn't stop at all between Gough & 9th Avenue.) For $2.75, I got from Market & Grant to Lincoln & 19th Avenue in 15 stops and about 35 mins. After that, it was an easy transfer to the 28. My original intention was to take the 5R - Fulton to the 28, so I'm glad the 7X stopped by first as it ended up being so much faster.

If you walk down International Blvd you will find great eats such as La Mexicana and good bakeries such as Pena. Just a heads up that Pena Bakery has very limited hours for their opening. I typically transferred from blue line to orange line at Bay Fair. One time this guy got on singing along with his boom box about a gun in his pocket and taking out people he doesn't like while slapping his pocket. The guy was nuts and the car immediately cleared out. Massive exit to the next car. Cops showed up at Lake Merrit station and pulled him off. I decided riding BART just wasn't worth the risk and adjusted my hours and started driving. PIn later years when I lived closer and didn't need to commute I would access Bart at Fruitvale since it was the closest station. Easy to get to via Uber or a number of bus lines. Again, back in the day you really had to pay attention to the crowd around. People getting mugged constantly and/or just harassed. Present day. I have recently started using Bart from Fruitvale again to get to Oakland, Berkeley and Lafayette when I'm meeting up with my partner and don't want to have 2 cars out and both of us driving home in two separate cars or when I drop off cars at our mechanics for service that takes a couple of days. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised, and that is not an easy feat with me after so many bad experiences. In recent trips i have not seen any rando characters. No one has asked me for money. No one hanging out with a sign asking for money while pimping out their kid. People were well dressed and polite. I know call me f'ing crazy. This is Fruitvale BART. The place was actually clean. Not sure if the new fair jumping gates helped or just BART realized the issues and worked to clean it up. Back in the day I would have given it a minus 5 stars but today it's going to 3 in the positive. As I use it more I may up the rating.

I now have to take public transportation from Outer Richmond (33rd Avenue) to Financial District…read more(Bush and Montgomery) Monday-Friday every morning because of my new job. I personally do not like the 38 Geary bus because it's not very clean, the trip takes about 40-45 minutes and seem to always be crowded. My prayers were answered when I found out from sfmuni.com that I can take 38AX to work every morning. The bus is filled with working professionals and not very crowded considering it's not a double bus. My morning commute from point A (33rd Ave) to B (Montgomery/Bush) only takes 20-25 minutes because after stopping at 25th Avenue, the bus cruises down Geary, turns left of Masonic and right on Bush and doesn't stop until my final destination. The 38AX is so quick and convenient that I wished it ran more often than just during rush hours. The best part about 38AX is that you can sit in the front seats and do not have to worry about giving up your seat to seniors and persons with disability. I would never take the regular 38 bus or 38L when I have a choice of taking the 38AX :-)! If you do end up standing up because of no empty seat, make sure to hold on tight because the bus speeds down Bush street and breaks abruptly at times.

I needed pick-up on my return trip from Europe 1 mo later. I sent him the exact flight details by email and left him $100 instead of the $65 the fare to the airport cost, to be sure he'll be there to pick me up. Sure enough, I arrived at 11:30 pm that day and calleed him, only to hear he thought I would arrive the next day, so he wouldn't be able to come and get me. One hour and $100 later I arrived home, promising myself never to take anything else but Uber to the airport again...
