This place is very basic. The public bar is a bland expanse that seems to be stuck in the 1970s,…read morebut not in any aesthetically pleasing way. The building itself is an eyesore, and the interior is no different. You can buy a cold beer, and you can place a bet or play the pokies, but that's about the extent of the excitment. There is a good drive-through bottleshop on the pub's lower floor, but the rest of the establishment either needs a good refurbishment or to be replaced. I would have thought that, given its exposure to passing traffic, and with the property prices in the area skyrocketing, this hotel could attract a more affluent clientele. As it is, turn up on a Friday night and you'll either fall to sleep from boredom, or be knifed. I suppose it's not a bad place to finish a working work, and there are elements of an Australian tradition at Chardon's Hotel that aren't present in more modern premises, but there's something really truckie about this place that doesn't make the place very hospitable. Until the company who owns it does something drastic, I'd stay away.

This is one of the quietly celebrated shit hole pubs in the inner south west. There is NOTHING attractive about this place, but it's still one of the best places to have a drink, and I'm not even sure why. I think it's just because it's a no frills, no nonsense kind of pub. It's easy to think it was especially designed for bar flies. Those who have 'their machine' in the pokies room, and those who spend their pay check at the bar as soon as they get it. The majority of people who inhabit the Chardons Corner Hotel are such folk. There's no decoration about the place. The focus here is beer and pokies. It's got the basics and nothing more: a fully stocked bar, some tables and chairs, a pokies room and your stock standard garish pub carpet that is ugly enough to disguise any mishaps with spills. Smokers are well catered for too. They've got your standard pub events. There's FREE POOL on Tuesday nights, a pool competition on Wednesday nights, and you can blind people with your smarts at Trivia on Thursdays. I know where I'll be spending my evenings as soon as I move my gear to Annerley.

They have daily happy hours and other deals on food and drinks that vary depending on the day and the deal, some of these include buy one main meal and get the second one for 5$. The bar/bistro is great for a few drinks after work or for a romantic meal for two. The outside area is perfect during spring and summer nights when the weather is good and for those who enjoy people watching it's the perfect winter daytime spot. They have live music nights on Thursdays and Fridays from about 7 pm onwards boasting some great local acts. They are open from 7 am to 2am daily so really any time you want to stop in is fine. It's also located right across the road from the Stones Corner bus station so is great for public transports which you might consider taking as parking is not all that abundant. So if you are after a nice night chilled out night or some afternoon drinks this could be the right place for you.

When they bought the business, it essentially became one part fancy restaurant (which is great), one part sports bar - the T-Bar. This is where non-dinner patrons mostly hang out, and you'll find your locals having a laugh with each other here. There's something wrong if 95% of your T-Bar customers are outside in the smoking area. It could be that they're socialising, but another key reason is to avoid the music and saturation of "the games." The bar is coated in advertising too, which makes me sad, and the last bar area to close where you won't annoy diners is the pokies room. The bar closes at midnight, I'm fairly sure. Seems I'm always still there when they want to close. Once during the week (Thursday, I recall) we were there celebrating my birthday in the T-Bar when we were told to move into the restaurant at 9pm! That was disappointing, as then we didn't feel that comfortable sitting among diners when we just wanted to have drinks and be ourselves. Maybe that was just my reflection.

We had not eaten at the HP for quite some time, and were quite impressed with the quality of the food. The chef/s did a great job. Now the negatives. I decided to book because we wanted to get in early so as to be home early. I booked a table for 6pm. When we arrived the place was almost full. But that was ok because I had booked. We stood in the middle of the bistro waiting to be directed to our table, but there was nobody around. A young waiter eventually came to us and I told him we had a booked for 3. He eventually found our booking, but the table had been taken by somebody else. We eventually were shoved into the very far corner, which did have a reserve sign on it, so we must have got someone else's reserved table. We then ordered our meals and a round of drinks through the app. It took so long to get our drinks, so we went to the bar and got them ourselves. The food took almost a hour to arrive. There were not enough staff. Not enough waiters. Not enough bar staff. Not enough kitchen staff. The whole idea of booking was to get in early and get home early. I visited the HP about a month of so ago with a group of workmates. We sat in the bistro bar area. The bar service was extremely slow that night also. There was one lady whose English was very poor and a young lad who said it was his first night. Patrons were waiting a long time that night and were getting quite agitated. That night I put it down to teething problems with the new reno. But a month and a half later ... and staff issues are still apparent.
