The service was good, too, but the food was the highlight of this meal. Ilona Stüberl is a Hungarian restaurant that has been open in Vienna since 1957. And it's easy to see why. We enjoyed Hortobágy" style pancakes (crepes filled with minced meat and served with a paprika sauce), "Túrós" csusza (cottage cheese pasta with bacon), and crepes with apricot jam. So glad I did. it was pretty packed when we got ther, we were able to get a high top table after just a few minutes wait. Ordered the beef tartare and schnitzel. Be forewarned, they don't skimp on the portions here. The tartare was delicious and came with a salad and about a half of stick of butter, which was interesting. Schnitzel was big enough to feed at least two people and left me feeling like I had finally experienced a real local meal. Keep in mind, this place is very low key, they serve everything in cardboard boxes. The soup reminded me of pho soup, and it was a nice appetizer to have while it was cold outside. The roast pork with sauerkraut was my favorite thing. if they have it, get it. Its filling and the crispy pork worked so well with the sauerkraut. They also have edm playing in the background if that's something you like.

The hazelnut cake was airy and fluffy, not at all too sweet like American desserts have a tendency to be! The staff here move efficiently, and I love how there's no pressure to hurry up and pay your bill or make your order. A repeat place to be sure if I were to go back to Vienna. At first I was worried that the exclusive feel of it all might've come at a detriment to the food, but on the contrary: I loved it! On my last visit, I noticed that they'd introduced meat options, but now they've gone completely vegetarian again and I think that's been a great move. The service was also great and overall I just had a fantastic dinner here! I'll hopefully be back in less than 8 years again ;-)
