I was driving down to LBI on Friday night, making great time. About 3/4 the way down there the "low tire pressure" light comes on. Never noticed any issues while driving before or after the light came on, so thought nothing of it. Get to my beach house, and no issues noticed. So next morning, I go into the garage to start to take the top off my Jeep and bam: rear driver-side tire is dead flat. Backed the Jeep out into the driveway, did the ole' switcheroo with the spare, and drove to the nearest place: UNDERTOE. Typical auto garage, walked inside and told the big burly biker guy my tire was flat. So he summons Keven who takes the tire out of the trunk, inflates the tire in a second, finds this HUGE nail, pulls it out (gives to to me as a momento), cores out the damaged tire, plugs it, re-fills and installs it. Seamless! I was back home in 17 minutes, on the beach in 19. $21.40 total. WOW! BOTTOM LINE: Slam dunk place. Got my tire fixed and back on the beach in less than half-an-hour! read more

I went in there yesterday to buy a $20.00 windshield wiper. The mechanic fiddled with my old one for 10-15 mins.- and told me he fixed it, but I should probably buy a new one to be on the safe side. He then proceeded to charge me $42.00 + 4% for using a CC. For fixing my wiper. He asked if he should order a new windshield wiper for my car? I said no thank-you. Totally ripped off! read more

stopped by after my tire pressure monitor light came on. Mark the owner ( who treats customers very rudely)had one of the techs look it and concluded there was a small leak in the valve. allegedly replaced the valve and the tech told me it was good to go and I would need to reset the tire pressure monitor from inside the car- it never reset !! $105 and a week later stopped by and Mark the owner -in his usual unpleasant fashion- asked if he could help so i proceeded to explain that TPM was not resetting and if he could explain why that was happening and he looked at me like a) he had never seen me before. Used them on a Saturday as I was leaving LBI...truck wouldn't start and many nice people tried helping me re charge including members of Barnegat Light FD. Called Undertoe and within an hour a tow truck arrived and driver was nice enough and patient enough to try 4 more times to get truck started. Started on 4th try and I was on my way home. Only cost me 78.00. Pretty great deal when compared to what I was feeling 1 hour prior. read more

My car broke down (alternator) yesterday (Friday) afternoon around 3:30. I called AAA and they had the car towed to Undertoe. I knew that they were open on Saturday but did not expect any miracles--figured I'd be carless until Monday sometime during the day. However, Mark called me around 8am to confirm the problem was, indeed, the alternator. By 12:30 today (Saturday) I had my car. Could he have price gouged me, considering we are on an island on a Saturday in the middle of the summer? Sure. But they gave me a reasonable price on parts and labor. I'm not sure what the problems were with the other customers who gave Undertoe low ratings, but I can assure you that these guys were gentlemen--that includes Dave, who towed us. read more

Not very helpful. All I wanted was a lift to look under my car to find a noise under my the carriage. First they sent me away because they were busy and make an appointment to come back I made the appointment. Two days later on the appointment time they didn't know when they could do it and I had to leave the car. I understand that an appointment is needed but to leave the car all day even with a prearranged time is not helpful. read more

This place is a complete rip off, I was stranded on the parkway and the tow truck driver helped me find a location to get my vehicle fixed. After 2 days of having vehicle and almost $600 later the car is not fixed. Mark then continued to fight and yell at me over the phone that it was not his fault and there are other issues with the vehicle ( except the same thing is happening from when it was towed into him) At one point even threatened me. This place is unprofessional, unreliable just a complete rip off. Only stays in business because people in area don't have any other options. Stopped at the shop to have a nail removed from my tire and have it repaired. Easy fix. Couldn't look at it on the car, (total B.S.) had to remove the tire to examine it. This way they could charge me. Nail was in plain sight. Of COURSE they said it was not repairable and tried to sell me an overpriced new tire. Didn't buy into it. Went to another shop and they repaired the tire in 5 minutes while still on the car (10 bucks) and its as good as new. These guys at Undertoe are real rip-offs. read more

Had to call AAA to have my daughters car towed while on vacation and this was where they took it. I will NEVER use this place or refer anyone to it. Getting charged $179 diagnostics on top of the part costing $284 was a bit of a rip off!! The simple fact is what he did probably only took 15 minutes. The airflow sensor is on the top of the engine and can be replaced easily so there was no real labor so I feel they screwed us buy saying it was and 1 1/2 hour of diagnostic but wait they gave us a"deal" and only charged us for a hour. The man who helped me was also very rude. When I asked if everything was fixed because I my daughter is scared to drive the car his response was "car is old and has 117,000 thousands miles , I don't guarantee anything" I said well we don't want this to happen to her again and he says once more "can't guarantee anything" read more

We brought our car here while on vacation because it was making a "funny" rattling noise. We thought that it might be the muffler or possibly the transmission. Undertoe's mechanic took it out for a test drive and diagnosed the problem immediately.....it was just a bent metal shield which the mechanic bend back into place. Total charge $32.10. Despite being busy, the owner took care of us immediately and was fair and honest. We are grateful to Mark and wish we had an auto repair shop like this closer to where we live in NY. read more

Is it possible to give no stars? Brought my car in to have a bulb replaced. Mechanic took out both bulbs, but only had one new one. When he put one of the old ones back in, I asked if it was the working bulb. He said yes. No it wasn't! Went back in to let him know. He said he would order another one. After stopping in four times over two weeks, finally the new bulb arrived. He took out both bulbs again, replaced them both, and another that was working. He was about to replace the three working bulbs on the other side when I stopped him. After paying $20. For the first bulb, they tried to get another $100. by replacing working bulbs!!!! Does not comply with NJ Auto Shop Repair Laws. Took advantage of a young kid with a 20 year old car who broke down on the road. Didn't tell him fees for towing or for diagnostics, racked up labor hours and computer diagnostics without asking. When we asked what the fees were the next day, we were told they were already at about 500.00 for towing, labor and parts ordered, even though we had never approved those services and were not told the hourly rates. Told us it was our fault we didn't know the fees because we didn't ask (right after we were asking). Have filed a complaint with NJ Division of Consumer Protection. Wasn't worth getting a lawyer. They knocked the fees down when we started to read them the laws. Then told us they would start to charge a storage fee for the car. Sleazy untrustworthy deceptive practices. The towing guy ranted and cursed about getting into a fight with the mayor that day, was awful, unprofessional and rude. It is unlawful under the Auto Repairs Deceptive Practices Regulations and the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act for an automotive repair dealer to do any of the following: Start work without first having received a signed written authorization from the consumer which clearly states the nature of the repair and the odometer reading of the vehicle, or if during other than normal working hours, verbal authorization from the consumer to proceed with the repair. Start work without first giving the consumer a written estimate. The total price must be stated either as "price not to exceed" a certain amount or as an exact figure broken down into parts and labor. Fail to provide the consumer with a copy of any receipt or documents signed by the consumer, at the time they signed them. Make false promises which are likely to influence, persuade, or induce the consumer to authorize the repair, service, or maintenance of the vehicle. Charge the consumer for work done or for parts supplied which are in excess of the estimate given, without the prior oral or written consent of the consumer. Fail to record on an invoice all repair work performed by the automotive repair dealer for a customer. The invoice should clearly and separately itemize the charges for parts and labor and also state whether any new, rebuilt, or used parts were supplied in the repair. Fail to provide a copy to the consumer of any guarantee that clearly discloses all of its terms. Fail to post in a conspicuous place a sign informing the consumer that the automotive repair dealer must provide a written estimate, copies of all receipts, detailed invoices, a copy of any guarantees that are offered, and that the consumer has the right to the return of any replaced parts. read more

Haven't needed to use them, but I see their truck out on the roads all the time and one one of their drivers is continuously distracted by his phone. He looks down at it every five seconds while underway (you can see him very well through the large rear window of the cab). I drive in the area a lot, and have watched him do this on several occasions, at all speeds and in all traffic conditions. Every five seconds! Due to intense rain within a few hours and high tide, I found myself driving through a flooded LBI boulevard. Next day, my car would not start. I called AAA and Undertoe arrived within 30 minutes. The guy checking the battery and electrical system was very nice. Unfortunately I need a toe which arrived within 45 minutes. My car was fixed by noon the next day! I am very pleased with the service and price charged. I'm sure if I had brought my car to the dealer, the cost would have been much more, taken longer, and they would have told me about 3 or 4 more things I need to have done. I was in a tough spot with an overheated car on Saturday on my way off the island. I was with my 5 year old and had nowhere to stay (everywhere within a two hour radius was booked), and was looking for help replacing a belt. I barely made it to the shop and stopped in to ask for help and the owner seemed immediately put out and annoyed at me for even asking, and sent me away to another shop that is closed on the weekend. On the way from there my car broke down and I ended up needing a tow. I called AAA and was told Undertoe was the only towing company working in the area. I was quoted 3 hours but it ended up taking 6 to get the tow truck to us, with no status updates and multiple calls to AAA in the meantime. My son and I were almost stranded with no place to stay and were it not for the kindness of the second shop we ended up at who stayed late to help us out, we would have had to sleep in our car that night. It was a nightmare, and I still can't quite understand the attitude and rudeness I received from the owner at Undertoe. I would avoid at all costs. read more
