She asked if I'd ever been in Jade's and I said no and she warned me that if I started, I'd never stop. Turns out she owns a shop down the street and has been a regular ever since they opened up. How could I not go after a glowing review like that?! I definitely can see why she goes daily. Yum! I'm adding Jade's to my list of places I absolutely must go when I'm in Prosser. I still need to try the handmade ice cream. The girl behind the counter also said all of the pottery for sale was made onsite and they had lots of cute little crochet and knit items as well.

We showed up mid-day and I think that somewhat impacted our experience because they were sold out of a lot! I guess their cinnamon rolls are one of their best sellers but they go early! We had two of the last pasties they had warmed up for lunch. While they were delicious, whatever they used to warm them was a bit ineffective. By the middle, we hit cold cheese and meat which was less desirable. For dessert I opted for a toffee bar that didn't event make it out of the shop in its to-go container. It was so good! And again, the last one of the day. I wish we could've gone back one morning but they are closed on Sunday. They had a lot of buy one get one options that were quite tempting! Besides the ineffective microwave, the biggest disappointment of the day was their dinner rolls. We bought some for that night hoping to replicate some of the deliciousness we had had that day. My mom warmed them up and I was so excited but upon biting into them - it tasted like they were missing something - maybe salt? They were such a letdown but I'm hoping it was a fluke! Overall - a great find in Prosser

CJ's has become the primary place to do this, at least from the folks that we buy from. Every time it's been done, we've gotten a phone call from them and gotten to choose the cuts that we want and how much ground meat we'd like as well. They've always been super helpful with that process, as we are never totally sure what all the options are - but these guys are always friendly and impatient. It's located just outside of Wapato, a bit out in the country. It's relatively easy to get to, and is easy to get in and out of from the road. Inside, the set up is very simple. It's a room with a couple of freezers and a checkout desk. They've always got tons of different cuts of meat available, and the service is always quick. Everybody's always very friendly and each time I've been there, I've been in and out within a couple minutes. What you pay, they have you pull around the east side of the building and load things up for you. It's honestly tough to want to expect much more from these guys. The prices always seem fair, and even with recent inflationary pressures, their prices for preparing the meat seem to be pretty normal. Give these guys - we are always happy when we do!

You wouldn't imagine that much happens inside of the humble building that is the Matterhorn Meat…read moreshop, but you'd be wrong! This place is awesome! The owner, Fred (Alfred) is a friendly swiss man who must be in his 80's. He has a thick swiss accent, but that only makes sense considering the name of the store! During my discussion with Fred, I found out that he started working with meat in the mid 60's. He started the Matterhorn Meat Shop in 1975 and has been doing it ever since. He told me that he got into the business because he enjoyed doing it, not because of the money! I was excited to try a get a feel for the quality here, so I decided to trying a little bit of several items: Jerky ($16/95/lb): Very good. He keeps it frozen, but it's been great once it's thawed. It's a bit on the thicker side, but I'd get some again. Jerky is always expensive, but this seemed pretty reasonable. Gothaer Zervelat - It's basically a german salami. It's an oblong shape and has a pretty good smoke flavor to it. If you're into salami, try some of this! Knockwurst - I haven't tried it yet, but I'm told that its the swiss version of a hot dog. It looks similar to a brat. Spicy Sausage - A bit milder than I would like, but delicious! Mild Sausage - Delightful! A fairly standard sausage, but worth trying. Landjaeger - Its quite a bit different that the other ones that I've had. Based on my experience here, I can't imagine that this is anything but 100% authentic. They are pretty big, but the flavor is mild and worth trying. Bring cash - I'm not sure if he accepts credit cards or not. I think that his register is the same one that he had in 1975, which is awesome! My only regret is that I didn't discover the Matterhorn Meat Shop earlier. This is undoubtedly on it's way to becoming one of my favorite shops around!
