We were really craving smoothie bowls and stumbled upon this hidden gem. Undergrind Raw has some of the best smoothie bowls, packed with so much stuff and for a pretty good price by LA standards (only around $11-12!). We got the Tropics Bowl and the Greens Bowl, and both were really good. The Tropics Bowl is on the sweeter end, and we found the Greens Bowl to be on the perfect medium. Had another horrible experience with the employee who works afternoons. Unlike the other employees at Undergrind Raw, he does not pay attention to incoming orders from either the kiosk or online. When you arrive, expect to wait at least 10 minutes- even after ringing the bell. He makes no attempt to watch for incoming customers and when he does appear, there's not so much as a greeting. On at least three occasions, he has failed to firmly attached the lids or provided carriers for multiple drinks resulting in customers spilling their drinks. This "employee" is clearly unhappy with his job. I am not the only person who has noticed his behavior. Several patrons who were seated out front on my last visit waited over eight minutes at the unmanned counter before they were forced to call out "Hello?" several times. It was only after several more minutes that this particular employee peered through a piece of cardboard he had propped up in the take-out window (apparently to block customers from getting his attention or disturbing him while he was on a phone) and proceeded to stare at them. What are we at Popeyes Chicken on La Brea? The owner, Rachel Sazon, needs to replace this employee ASAP so he can spread his misery somewhere else - like maybe the DMV. read more

I got the "Fountain of Youth" smoothie which I was excited to try. This is right in the heart of a residential neighborhood so you'll find a quick spot to park on any of the adjacent streets- no dedicated parking lot but no problem. There are also metered quick parking spots directly in front of the store. My drink was very healthy and delicious. Though pricier than your usual smoothie shop, the ingredients are high quality which makes it worth what you're paying for. Really tasty smoothie for a reasonable price with plenty of add on options! I got the Sunrise with pea protein added in and it's pretty tasty. Parking was a little tough but only because of street cleaning (Tuesday 8am-10am) but I'm sure on non street cleaning hours it's very reasonable. It's definitely a grab and go place - not really any room to sit inside and maybe one or two small tables outside. My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because a couple of pieces of fruit were at the bottom that didn't get blended up. There were 4 people waiting when we walked in on a Saturday morning, but the 2 employees working there were slammed with both online/delivery orders as well as in person orders. This family owned and run raw smoothie brick and mortar is the real deal. You actually get fresh, raw ingredients that you can taste and it's so refreshing (I can always tell when the ingredients are frozen)!!! The ingredients listed on the menu says it all. The place is so cute, and you can also order at their kiosk if you like. The owners are so nice. I felt right at home even though it was my first ordering. Great smoothie spot!!! I've only had their green smoothies (which are ridiculously good) but the whole menu looks delicious. I go to their cafe more often to get food but every now and then I'll come here to get a green smoothie. It's a very small spot where you can order your drink by yourself on a touch screen and they prepare it in the back. It's never really super busy so it's easy to get in and get out. They also had really good açaí bowls which I want to try but haven't had a chance to yet. Next time you're in the area you should definitely get your self something tasty while staying healthy. read more

I tried this spot because of the good reviews. You have to order for yourself (I was not greeted or spoken to by anyone) which is fine I suppose. It took maybe 10 minutes to get my order so pretty fast. The açaí bowl was okay, not bad but not great either. It had an apple juice taste which I personally don't like in açaí. Been a few times, decided I'd stop in and get a tropics bowl for the day so it's a healthy choice. I was waiting about 18 minutes. Someone that came in way after me received two bowls before I did so I asked if order #18 was ready. The thick light skin girl with the brown highlights says, "Oh I didn't see your order until just now, I haven't made it yet. Do you have a receipt?" (as she proceeds to look over at the iPad behind the window) Now, every time I've been in, there's NEVER anyone out near the register. I've had to hit the bell before. The windows should be open if nobody is out front. I said no the kiosk didn't print one (it never does, you guys should consider fixing that or at least have electronic receipts if you're charging 4% on top of the menu price to be cashless) She knew that I didn't have a physical receipt; it seemed like a rebuttal. She then proceeds to say she could make it now. Looking at the time, I said, "You know what actually I'll just take a refund, I've been waiting too long." She then states, "Well, I can make you a Malibu Dream smoothie, it's quicker." Why? That's the accommodation? A smoothie I didn't ask for? I told her no thanks and that I've already been waiting long enough as I'm going to be late. She then proceeds to refund me and hands me a receipt. I thanked her and she didn't say a word. It was attitude as if I was inconveniencing her. I didn't like the energy and I'll be honest, I probably won't return. Being black owned was a bonus, BUT I hate to say it, it made me feel negative in review as the stereotypical Black Owned Business (extra charges + attitude service). Having the windows closed or not being acknowledged upon entering can be a bit off-putting with only a kiosk and an iPad there. The machine making noise as if a receipt is printing, but does not, should be fixed. It's happened each time I've visited. Pros -- 1. Healthy Menu Options 2. Self-Service Convenience: The kiosk and cashless system can be convenient for some, if they function properly. Cons / Suggestions: 1. Inconsistent Service & Order Handling * Waiting 18 minutes while others received orders ahead of me, only to be told my order wasn't seen or more inconvenient to make, signals a breakdown in communication or attention. * Staff should be checking kiosk orders promptly and ensuring "first-in, first-out" is followed. I felt slighted. Why ask for a tip prior to service? 2. Poor Communication & Customer Interaction * Her dismissive tone and lack of accountability (asking for a receipt she likely knew I wouldn't have) felt more like deflection than problem-solving. * A sincere apology and proactive solution (not just a smoothie instead of a bowl) would have gone a long way. 3. No Receipts * The kiosk mimics printing a receipt, but never does (at least for me). If you're charging a 4% fee for going cashless, it's fair to expect it to be a fully functioning system or at least email/text receipts. * I shouldn't be bowl-less for system failures. 4. Lack of Presence & Welcoming Environment * It's uninviting. * A closed window and limited human contact may work, but not if service falls short elsewhere. You can't not be present AND have the windows closed. 5. Unfortunate Stereotyping Due to Service ( I don't want to feel like this!) * It's disappointing when a business that should be empowering feels like it's reinforcing negative stereotypes due to poor experience and extra charges. I've always had a great experience at Undergrind, I figured it would be the same. It's less inviting. * Being Black-owned should be a point of pride, not just a sticker on the window or a caveat I feel like I have to work around. Seems like she was just ready to close and I was in the way. Although I was there well in advance before closing as there were other people there before and after me. I've been here multiple times to order for me and my husband as it's convenient to living in Beverlywood. We choose to go here. Now it feels like money wasted. Raw should take notes from Undergrind when it comes to customer service. Bottom line, it put a bad taste in my mouth and shorty's service sucked. read more

It was just alright toward the beginning but got worse toward the end. It was a lot of toppings for a little bit of acai and I got two whole frozen strawberries in the bowl Service was kind of non existent but I think it's supposed to be like that. Four stars for the people because they are wonderful but the last 4 times I've been in there has been so inconsistent on the smoothie front. I get the same two smoothies every time and for years they were consistent and delicious. These last few times the smoothies have been so varied that I have questioned if I even grabbed the right drink. I love love love this shop. Incredible people. Lovely atmosphere. And always good to support black owned businesses. I do hope they sort out whatever allows for so much variance in the smoothies though. Lately the smoothies honestly haven't tasted very good. FAVORITE! So someone recommended me to the Undergrind Cafe and I went. I then discovered Undergrind Raw existed, as well. I was in the mood for something healthy, so I decided to try the Greens Bowl, which had a base of spinach, banana, mango, pineapple and apple juice. This mixture is topped with strawberries, banana, coconut, banana and granola. Where has it been all my life?! It's perfect. It's even better than açaí. I've gone so many times recently that I signed up for the rewards. I've also tried the Dragon Bowl, which has a base of dragonfruit. The staff are always friendly and quick with their service. I was in the store for nearly 10 minutes today and didn't see a human until my order was called. It's so unsettling to order at a kiosk and just quietly wait in an empty establishment, hoping that somebody got your order and is making your drink. Maybe it's just me but I would much rather interact with a human than order at a kiosk. The smoothies are pretty solid though, a little pricey for what it is but overall not bad. At first I was a bit skeptical of this small raw juice bar next to Campos Tacos on Gibson Street in Beverlywood. The first house I owned was on Gibson Street a block away. I've tried a number of juice bars in the past few years that were okay but not exceptional. This joint is connected to Undergrind Cafe which is around the corner and is a great local coffee and sandwiches joint. I stepped up to the sleek and clean counter and ordered the Keep It Going, a blend spinach, ginger, mango, pineapple, banana and cold pressed apple. The smoothie was very fresh, smooth and really great tasting. Couldn't have asked for a better combination. Well done RAW. read more
